How much could I realistically ask for this? It's a 92 Ural 650cc without a side car but it still runs
I know it's a hunk of crap but it's one of the few bikes my ussr born parents would accept and at least it has a bit of novelty to it; i'll primarily use it to commute to uni in the fall and plan to dick around with it mechanically this summer.
I posted in last thread and got some helpful advice (thank you /dbt/) but i still don't know how much this is worth in it's condition and how much i should ask to get a bargain.

I agree, I haven't ridden a gsx-s1000 yet so I can't say for sure, but the one criticism retards on /dbt/ like to rail on it for is the jerky throttle reviewers talk about but having ridden an MT-09....there's no way it's worse.

The gsx-s does have the brembos and fully adjustable (albeit not showa bp) suspension and stuff and the MT-09 suspension...no adjusting you could do with clickers can fix that.

GSR750 is just a much older design than the 1000, I wouldn't bother if it was me.

http://adventurebikerider.com/news/1449-man-survives-after-being-trapped-under-his-motorcycle-for-eight-days.html

>A south Georgian man has survived after being trapped underneath his motorcycle for eight days.

>Roland Howard Goff, 63, was found trapped under his Honda VTX1300 in a ditch near his Brooks County home in the USA.

>The bike, which would have weighed roughly 320kg, crushed his right leg and, unable to move or call for help, Roland was left to improvise when it came to staying alive. He drank rain water and ate whatever he could reach around him to keep his body ticking over. While he managed to survive for eight days, he told the Georgian State Police that he felt like he could make it one more day.

>By a stroke of luck, Roland was found when his friend, William Shultz, noticed his lack of activity on social media (he hadn't posted for around five days), so he decided to go and look for him.

>William found Roland in a ditch just off his driveway. Roland says the only thing he remembered was riding down the track on the evening of Tuesday, May 17th and veering off the side of the dirt road.

>Georgia State Police says his right leg was pinned underneath his motorcycle, preventing him from being able to free himself after the accident.

>Roland was taken to South Georgia Medical Centre and while his leg is in bad condition, doctors are hopeful that he'll be able to keep it.

To be quite fair, Honda's street bikes have been sucking mad fucking cock lately.
The CBR fell behind the curve. Both the 650 and the Fireblade are not as appealing as their competition from BMW, Yamaha, and Kawasaki.

And Honda put boring v4s into every fucking bike, because apparently we needed the NC750X. Then they brought back the Africa Twin, which makes the NC750X almost completely irrelevant.

Honda's apparently giving us a new high-tech v4 superbike soon, to go to the races. Hopefully that causes more interest in the v4s Honda used to make. And hopefully Honda un-pigfats the interceptor. Right now that bike is a dad that got fat and wears a cell phone on his belt. He used to be cool, go to raves and party. But then he got some girl pregnant and now he's a responsible adult.

Well I want the interceptor to be the bikes it was in the 80s and 90s. Psychotic suicide machines, or muscle bikes with hardcore racing engines in them.

Honda's also late to the retro/scrambler game. If Honda decided to give us a v4 retro bike like the Saber/Magna/Interceptor, and maybe sold it with a scrambler package, I'd be in love with Honda again.

But no, Soichiro's fucking dead, and the company's afraid of innovating and taking risks. Which shits all over the founding legacy of Honda. Which was built around racing, taking risks, building new things, and innovating.

God dammit, I want to love Honda. Honda motorcycles used to be some of the best blood pumping machines, especially when I was growing up. But now...fuck man, at least my first bike is team green. I'd be embarrassed to have a modern Honda.

I lanesplit all the time. If a cop stops you tell him your bike will overheat and lock up if you sit in traffic.
>>
I live in burgerland and saw another motorcycle lane split for the first time yesterday (it is illegal). He would go around cars on a double yellow line, and split between a bus and a car going like 40mph but didn't split between cars at a stop light. I figure if he's going to break the law anyway he might as well move all the way to the front instead of taking one positing and sitting in traffic again.

I always knew it was a possibility I would crash on the bike, but what I thought would happen was that it would be somebody else's fault and it was actually totally mine, the web will put it into your brain that other people, "cagers" and what not are the biggest risk to you as a biker, but it's actually you yourself who will statistically be the most likely one to cause yourself to come off.

Wear the good gear and you'll be good though, the only thing I wasn't wearing on that day was proper riding pants and the only thing I hurt was my knee (nothing broken just very bruised and swelled, impossible to bend for a week or so)

>How long have people on /dbt/ been riding on motorcycles?
Since I was 5
>Have you been in accident(s) in your time
Yes. Three. One time when I was 5, locked up the rear, and panicked which led to me falling over (still have a scar from sliding along), one time where I learned why the front wheel had to be pointing straight after I came down from a jump on a dirt bike when I was like 10, and recently when a bunch of fucking bullshit had me breaking my front wheel on a curb.

I'd chock up all three to my fault. I probably should stopped riding as soon as my headlight failed on the third.
>what/who was to blame?
See above
>any lessons or pro tips learned from them?
When the rear locks let up on the brake and don't panic. Make sure your landings are fucking perfect when you catch air, and for fuck's sake never ride at night without headlights on unlit streets.

I've done tons of other stupid shit, like when I got headshake on my 80s shitbike after I ran wide off a tight corner and ended up in some gravel. Gave me the wobblies once I hopped back up onto the road but that's easily fixed by rolling off and letting the bike flip its shit.

Went sideways on the MV at 75mph in the rain riding home one day (Michelin Pilots handle pretty well in rain though) because I hit a painted stripe on the road, etc etc.

Plenty of dirt accidents, but only time I've ever ate it on the street was last week. Pro Tip: Don't try and drift on knobbies in the rain.

anyone in chicago wanna cruise right now?
>>
>>15199043
Sure
>>
>>15199027
even though it was likely the cars fault, that's one of those things you learn as a rider, that everyone will cut you off so you kind of have to be ready, cars cut me off all the time but there's usually a limited amount of acceleration they can do, so any time I see a car ready to pull out I'm set up on the brakes and at a speed that if they try and pull out I can stop or avoid no matter what.

I've been cut off by a lot of cars but I've never crashed because of it (yet, fingers crossed, sometimes shit happens and people just fly out of nowhere, I get it) I'm not saying it's your fault or any shit like that but I'm sure you know in retrospect there would have been something more you could have done.

>accidents? blame?
Sort of dropped first bike at about 1mph coming into my driveway the first month I had it. Hit some unexpected slush, not perpendicular enough to curb, bike just suddenly dropped out from under me. Almost caught it but essentially landed on my side and leg; no pain or injuries except to my pride, bike suffered a small scuff on the brake lever and that was it.

I've had close calls such as nearly getting SMIDSY'd here and there (not even speeding or anything, just cagers caging) with one requiring enough braking that I locked the rear wheel for a bit. Had people lazily cross over center lines (had one of those two days ago) into my lane, not pay attention when going for a merge or lane change, one guy in a minivan almost sideswiped me after half-overtaking me despite having been driving literally right next to me for the last 30 seconds.

My personal favorites though are the MOTHERFUCKING NIGGERS IN THE POLICE. Swinging wide on turns ending up head on at me in a left turn lane I was going down, coming to a stop for some stupid reason in a paved medium and poking the front bumper into my lane as I'm oncoming (guy wasn't even prematurely pulling a U-turn, ended up going back into the lane for the direction he'd been going previously), etc. I've long known that police are a bunch of shitbird cunts (only one officer I've ever talked to was something approaching a human being and even then he was technically unlawfully stopping me which with the benefit of hindsight I'd have loved to point out to him at the time) I just didn't expect to have to start watching out for them trying to fucking kill me.

>lessons learned?

2. People are fucking retarded and you should always expect them to be retarded (not learned, just reinforced).

nobody buys them.

procure a sales list of sportsbikes from your country or state, I checked the one for australia and there were no 600s anywhere on the top 10 of any list (not counting the stuff that just plain doesn't belong in the SS list), the closest thing was the 899 which was in the top 10 of the supersport list.

Litrebikes are what people are buying, hence why BMW and aprilia make litres but don't bother with mid weight bikes.
>>
Sup /o/

I haven't been to this part of 4chan before, but I wanted to ask advice for getting a bike.

I have been riding since I was around 18. I first learned on dirt bikes and then rode a KLR 650 through college and up until 2012. It was stolen from outside my apartment the first day after I moved in. The police have sense recovered it, but it was not in driveable condition.

I have ridden my dad's Honda Nighthawk 750 though I dislike how heavy it feels. Also have ridden a Kawasaki Versys a bit and liked that bike.

If I'm looking to get one used, how much would I expect to pay for a bike that is
> >500 CC at least
> Not a ninja, fuck that shit
> Somewhat tall? I like the feel of taller dirtbikes since I'm pretty tall.

I'm not sure how much I'd be using it. I don't drive my car too much as is, but it would help my commute a bit. So hoping to get a good deal on something.
