Mate I don't know the first thing about how a motorcycle works. This bike is 11 years old with an odometer discrepancy, it could be anything. I also can't get it to idle without the choke on 25% or so, so who knows. I turn it off with the killswitch usually but the key more recently (and when I noticed the noise)

Also the carb needs to be clean/tuned. The carb could just need a quick adjustment on the idle screw. That would fix your no idle without choke problem but your lack of knowledge will betray you. Need to take it a mechanic.

Is the maintenance and having to replace parts on an XT350 anything to worry about? There's not really an aftermarket and hunting ebay for overpriced used parts sucks. It'd be a first bike.
Also looking at a TW200 which would be way easier to get parts for but lacks power for longevity and hooligan fun.

Buy threaded metal rods with washers and nuts at home depot or whatever hardware store. I don't know what the diameter you need but they're different for front and back. get regular skateboard wheels (the harder the compound the better), and I hollowed them out with a dremel.
