You can't shift anyway

If you like gear whine, sure go ahead.

Not even worth saying in Europe, Amerifat

Imagine going backwards. Now imagine the going backwards noise all the time. Also imagine replacing your gears all the fucking time because they wear down like cuntnuggets.
>>
>>15190386
pointless.

and I dont know about transmission, but a straight cut rear end would be absolutely horrible. you'd have to be wearing a helmet to save your ears.
>>
>>15190386

you're a retard if you think you can live with noise like that on a daily basis
>>
>>15190386
you'll have to keep explaining to everyone it's meant to sound broken
>>
>>15190386
About as good an idea as a rollcage and stripping the interior.

Your a fucking tard. Gears are specifically made to be slanted to allow the gears to be quieter during travel. You'll hear nothing but a very pissed off transmission the entire time your driving. I just got my car a a few weeks ago and I already know this. The fuck is your problem
>>
Why aren't herringbone-gear gearboxes a thing yet? Surely by now we have the manufacturing technology to produce them at a feasible cost?
>>
>>15190683
Straight cut gears handle more power before grenading. The only reason to ever go straight cut is because you need them, and then they are a necessity
>>
>>15190556
Less weight and stiffer bruh. I might do that to my sc400 and then it will have the chassis from a supra and weigh the same. With supra suspension and a supra gearbox connected to a lexus v8. Grorious.
>>
>>15190710
>Surely by now we have the manufacturing technology to produce them at a feasible cost?
You obviously don't know how gears are made.
>>
>>15190743
The sc400 is a glorified Sora, not Supra
>>
>>15190772
Same chassis and suspension. It can be very supraesque with work. For instance w58 swap, supra brakes, supra coil overs. The sc is a soarer with different badges
>>
>>15190386
Sure if you're deaf it is an awesome idea
>>
The whole advantage of straight cut gears is they don't produce any axial loads. Which means they can take more power/torque reliably.

So unless your pushing lots power to necessitate them, they're pointless on a street car. Not to mention transmission jobs for those types of upgrades aren't cheap.

well some of them have straight cut stock, just on the reverse tho

the sound isn't really my cup of tea but if you're into that shit then go ahead if price and carefulan obscure shifting technique isn't a problem

Do you want your commute to sound like JAV?
>>
>not having a straight cut transmission, straight cut differential, gear driven cams, squealing race brake pads, hard sidewall summer tires, solid motor and transmission mounts, stripped out interior and sound proofing and the quietest exhaust you can manage

Do you even race car/pussy deterrent? Just wear some hearing protection you idiots.

Bad idea. TERRIBLE idea.
>>15190556
At least both of those have actual advantages.
>>15190730
>Straight cut gears handle more power before grenading.
No, they don't. In fact they both handle similar amounts of torque, but helical gears can do so at much higher speeds.

The only advantages of spur gears over helical gears are that they are cheaper and easier to fabricate, and are easier to assemble in reconfigurable gearboxes (both of which influences racing teams' decision to use them), and that they don't produce axial thrust.

What's the benefit of this?
Also, I thought that the advantage was ability to change gears quicker.
>>
>>15190743
>putting a full rollcage on a street car.

You know in case of accident your brain will splatter all around the interior right?
>>
>>15193631
Almost all motorcycles use straight-cut gears because of this.
It mens you can use a much weaker and hence lighter transmission case.
Also, nobody cares about noise on a bike.
>>
>>15193631
>Also, I thought that the advantage was ability to change gears quicker.
Considering the gears themselves are constantly meshed regardless of cut, it makes no difference what so ever.
>>15191946
>No, they don't. In fact they both handle similar amounts of torque
Have to pull you up on that one. Straight cut gears have more surface area engaged at any one time, and can transmit more torque reliably as a result.
>but helical gears can do so at much higher speeds
This is spot on. As helical gears engage gently in a swept motion across the tooth. At higher RPM this is more mechanically forgiving, but it's also this reason (less surface area contact) straight cuts handle more torque.
The rest of your statement is spot on.

Also worth noting, straight cut gears are prone to accelerated wear when compared to helicals, as the friction involved in meshing is much higher.
>>
>>15190427
holy fuck, it's modified to be as whiny as possible right?

The solution is right there in the picture, nigger.

If you manage to kill PPG helical cut gears, you're a shithouse driver.

Does anybody make a transmission with helical top gear and straight cut lower gears? Seems like it would satisfy the small market that wants a track ready DD.

Its a typical straight cut sound. Not an extra noise mod or anything like that
>>
>>15190386
with strait cut loosing the tooth is a big deal the entire thing just pops off and can wreck everything
where as helical tooth most often has little bits fall of it first
and even when one tooth falls of its not a problem
