It's a car. It goes from A to B. It will start up without fail and can easily hit 200k miles. It won't excite you, but it will never let you down.

It's the last real civic because it's the last subcompact civic. There's nothing wrong with timing belts if you're not a poorfag. Timing chains and/or guides would need to be replaced too because at 15 years old there's a high likelihood of the oil not being changed regularly.

owner of a '91 civic DX hatchback here.
my other car literally has OVER 5 TIMES the horsepower but i still enjoy driving my little civic. its just so smooth and comfortable and fun to drive. my car has stock springs/shocks and an oem muffler so its not stiff or loud.
and since its an EF it looks small on the outside but has TONS of interior room. i'm 6'1 and i feel like its a Cadillac. i could sleep in here

I have an 03 civic LX 5 speed, the Canadian one with no VTEC. It's terribly slow and really needs a decent rear swaybar but otherwise it's fine.

very agile, decent stock suspension (6th gen and earlier), peaky powerband, manual shifter. slap on some good tires and it's surprisingly fun for a piece of shit. You can keep up with a surprising number of pretty fast cars on really twisty backroads if you have the skill.
stock tires are ass, especially on a lx. you'd need at least 15" wheels to find anything decent, which can be prohibitive.

I had the pleasure of hooning around my mate's 09 civic. While it's a far cry from the powerful cars i'm used to, it has some good points i'll honestly address.
>Reliability is second to fucking none. In a year of thrashing the living FUCK out of it for 3 hour long hooning sessions through intense twisties, the only part that started to go was the piston rings. Everything else did not break or come close to breaking.
>It's quite light and well balanced on tight corners. I was driving the sedan, not the hatch and it still felt very solid and steering was very on point. The car handled very predictably.
>While the power is lacking on straights and it's very noticeable, it's not a slow car. You take it to some good touge and you won't notice the lack of power. Naturally it was never made for either power or touge, honda made it as a commuter car.
This is why i give it credit. It was bone stock manual, with the only change being a set of re003 tires.
I can't speak for the older models, but this model in sedan form was fucking superb, just overall quality build for what it is. It never claimed to be any sort of race car, but in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing it can be pushed into that territory and hold it's own.

How can you only hold 60 in a car that will do 100 or so? I don't drive my Honda aggressively because it's an automatic and really no fun to because of how it jumps gears erratically. It seems to have the power to go faster than 60 on some of the wider cornered (2 lane) back roads around here fairly easily though. If you're talking those country roads that are the equivalent of a wide lane in the city, then yeah, I could see 60 being about the max.
