Is car crash safety progressive over the years? It seems like 10 years ago cars were only being tested at 30mph crashes, now they can withstand 40mph crashes. Will it ever reach 50? 60?

Probably, but it's not a priority since the majority of crashes are at speeds under 60mph
The speeds for these crashes are based on what a normal person is usually able to brake down to from normal highway/road speeds

It may be a divergent paths kind of deal .
On one hand , it would be neat to basically find a limit of the top speed at which you do tests and than from there work on how to make the life saving tech lighter and smaller , while keeping it just as safe
On the other hand , there will be manufacturers who are fully invested in pushing safety as they main company value , those guys will be pushing for higher and higher speeds as they top trump .

why make bullets thicker when you could make them longer by using caseless ammo . Just because you or I lack the vision , it doesn mean that some absolute madman won't find a way to make a breakthrough in some technological sphere , whether it be handguns or car safety or toasters of whatever
