Ls swap will get you there a lot easier, but still a lot of work to swap in.
Bricks are great first car. Easy to work on, cheap to buy, cheap parts, reliable as hell and very practical. 240s are great; I'd recommend get one to learn to the tinker with and before you know, you'll be turboing it. I just put 300 miles on mine between yesterday and today.
