>contemplate buying a fun little roadster to wrench on, hoon around in, maybe take to track days
>budget is around $10k, look on craigslist, lots of good cars to choose from
>desire to buy roadster intensifies
>have never been to track day before, out of curiosity do a search in google maps to see what's even available in my area
>5 drag strips, 2 MX tracks, 2 dirt sprint car tracks
>literally not a single paved, curvy, "fun" track within 200 miles except for dedicated go kart tracks
Such is live in the American South....

It almost makes me not even want to buy a "fun" car, it just seems pointless now.
I still don't get drag strips.
The way I see it, something like autocross is less about money, and more about skill. You can do well in autocross on a pretty cheap budget.
Whereas drag strips take very limited skill and are mostly about how much money you pour into your car. Plus it lasts like 14 seconds.
Maybe it's because I've never been to either.

so drop $2k on a shitbike and enjoy the cheapest adrenaline rush motorsport there is, bitch.

Where are you?
The ones I know of are VIR, NCCAR, and Road Atlanta off the top of my head.
>>15145449
Bullshit where do you live? I'll find you somewhere

>track
Take it around the twisties, ideally take it on vacation to places that have tracks over the summer.

There's nothing on here you could go to?

Northeast Texas, about 40 miles west of Texarkana.

I own a DR650, have ridden little 100cc and 150cc dirtbikes. I enjoy riding easier trails, fire roads, forest service roads, etc but I don't have any desire to do any actual MX riding.

find park roads within aplilachia the states have a soft spot for the hilly mountainous areas with long sweeping curves to hard technical sections with elevation changes up and down

Nothing within a 6 hour drive it seems.

Appalachia is a bit far, I head up to the Ozarks in Oklahoma and Arkansas for fun mountain riding on my motorcycle. I don't think I'd feel comfortable hooning around the corners of twisty mountain roads in a roadster to be honest (or any 4 wheeled vehicle for that matter), the illusion of safety and stability that 4 wheels and a cage provides would cause me to push it just a little too much until I eventually spin out and crash. I'd rather do that sort of shit on a track under controlled circumstances than on a public road.

Yeah.. drag racing really is more about the machine itself and how much money you've decided to pour into it than it is about racing skill.
On the other hand, dirt track sprint car races look like a pretty fun event to watch.

>900HP+ open wheel death machines that only weigh 1200lbs drifting around a dirt, gravel, or clay oval track at 110MPH
that shit looks pretty intense, even if they are only going around in circles.
