Why is the LT1 better than any other engine for budget?

1: You've confused the LS engines with the new LT engines.
2: the new LT engines can't be carburated. Why? Because direct fuel injection. Changing to carburation involves new pistons, heads, intake manifold and computers.
>>
>>15140756
>>15140750

I'm talking about OLD LT engines. 90-96 or so, they are 90% LS1s w/o aluminum heads
>>
>>15140763
But then why did you put a picture of a new lt1?

The old LT engines are lightly updated gen 1 small blocks. Nothing from the LS engines will swap over.

The Iron duke was famous for its reliability... which is actually where the nickname came from. To make it they literally took a Pontiac pushrod V8, and chopped the engine in half, only using 1 bank. They made like 90-95 HP factory, or you could order a Cosworth developed DOHC conversion kit from the dealership that bumped power to over 300 HP N/A

That also wasn't the last time GM turned a pushrod engine into a DOHC screamer.
Meet the LQ1.
GM took their 3.1L pushrod V6, bored it out to 3.4L and threw on some high flowing DOHC heads.
Normal 3.1L: 140 HP
DOHC 3.4L: 210 HP detuned.

And then there was the LT5. Which was literally a 350 Chevy small block with DOHC.
normal 350 small block LT1 in 1993: 300 HP
DOHC 350 small block LT5 in 1993: 405 HP
>>
>>15140734
Old LT1's are shit.
New LT1's are fucking expensive.

LS is still best.
>>
>>15140756
New LT's can be carbed though. Disable the fuel injection and slap a carby on there, done. There's just no reason to, unless you're going for a period correct look (or desperately need a negligeable extra heat drawn out of your intake air).

large engines are taxed. The larger the engine, the higher the tax.

The pistons are weird as fuck and specific for direct injection. There's also the second fuel pump to worry about

Except that's a plastic engine for mocking up engine swaps.

Fun fact though, I lifted a ej25d out of a fucking car with everything on it, including the torque converter.
I'm guessing it weighed 350 pounds.
Lesson learned, the Internet lies. (said it was 180)
>>
>>15141134
>high tax
bad if you wanna be rich, but you don't really have to bother trying to be poor since tax is your safety net and gives you money if you can't get it yourself.
>yearly inspection
fucking good, unless you want to drive around people knowing that every single car you meet can drop a tire or fail braking or blowing up because nobody have inspected the car since it's release.
>taxed by displacement
This is pure bullshit though, but they do it because the higher the power, the more frat idiots it attracts thus filling the roads with kids that don't know how to handle it AKA Ford Mustang drivers.

>you can carburate if you're a faggot too
Isn't that a good thing if you don't have them ecus and wiring harnesses and computers and shit?
Can't you get ignition from a regular coil pack on those things or is everything computer controlled in those?

Question. Can you actually add cams to an LS1 or most LS engines in general?

How much would it cost? (would it be expensive or can it be done for not much more)

Can it be done reliably/does the engine retain its reliability?

Can it still fit in most Corvettes? (i heard a DOHC V8 couldn't fit in Vettes like the C5)

How much of a power increase can you expect?

This engine from Mercury Marine (who built the original DOHC LT5 for GM) is a DOHC V8 based on the LS1 architecture. I think it's like 10k as a crate engine.
They call it the QC4V, or the Quad Cam 4 valve.

Pistons are optimised for direct injection, not direct injection only. Race gas through a carby should work the stock bottom end without knocking. Lowering compression (different pistons, different heads, maybe just a thicker headgasket) will alow for the use of pump fuel.

Second fuel pump can be disabled. Just route the fuel straight from the tank to the pump to the carb.
>>
>>15141295
What if the person that crashes into you don't have insurance?
Here he'd have to pay everything from his own pocket if that happened, it also wouldn't raise your premium even if he had a insurance or not.

Then again, why would you rather want to be in a car accident than knowing everyone have safe cars?

>>15141391
It's a 9.0L twin turbo.
>>
>>15141263
Yes, but it's be hilariously expensive.

It would improve sustained high RPM reliability. Parts availability would be a bitch.

Probably wouldn't fit. You can expect a DOHC V8 to be about 2 to 4 inches wider then it's pushrod equivalent.

Negligable power increase. You'd be better off with a set of good flowing, CNC ported LS heads insteads. You try finding me a set of 400cfm DOHC heads. I'll wait.
