I'm trying to decide on what sort of motorcycle I want. I'm conflicted between a 250 class dualsport or something like a klr650. Maybe even a 250 ninja or some kind of general purpose naked. I live in Colorado and the flow of traffic is 85mph minimum on the interstates. I want a durable general purpose motorcycle that can do everything adequately. I'm also a cheap bastard so I'm leaning toward a smaller motorcycle. I don't care to ride fast but if I get a big porky 650 it needs to cruise at 85 to be viable on I 70 or I 25.

Any ideas, I like the klr650 but I read it's only good for fire trails and gravel roads. My fuckin Honda Civic is good on gravel and fire trails so how shitty off road are they exactly? How syitty is a street bike in comparison?
>>

I"m not giving up on motorcycle riding just because it is below freezing, covered in snow, and dark half the year.

dr650 would do adequate for what you want all around or an xr650l if you have the legs for it.

klr is pretty gutless and is pretty heavy so its not all that good at anything.
>>
>>15132378
None of those bikes are going to be feel safe on the Interstate at 85mph.
I was on a Ninja 300 and at 85mph it was still questionable.
>>
>>15132378
most 250s are going to be screaming on the highway at 60+

I'd say dr650/klr650 are good first bikes, but heavy. esp if you're a big nig.

>>
>>15132379
You can attach a side car and it'll solve the problem with traction through turns. Good tires with studs and you will stop faster than most any of the cagers out there. Nothing will solve how you will survive when it's -40 with 55mph windchill. You'd need heated gear, snowmobile shit all the time.

People in Alaska like to drive rwd trucks and try to pull out into the road to turn and spin their tires and lose traction. That'd probably be what kills you.

if you want to go off road get a dual sport (pretty much a dirt bike with lights and plates)

you can't get a dual sport that'll also do 85+ mph and still be a reasonable first bike. off road bikes tend to have very short gearing, torquey powerbands, and low hp. any 250 will be screaming at 80mph+. while a 650 will be big and heavy. a klr650 will do way more than just "fire trails and gravel roads".

look at a drz400s for a happy medium.

if your bike gets to 120 fairly quickly and tops out in a similar area then it's fairly easy to maintain a similar average, whereas the bigger bikes go a lot faster and have to do a lot more slowing

I'm bike only, what do you want to know?
I live in a very central suburb in Melbourne and don't need to commute for work so of I were only interested in getting from A to B I'd rely on public transport and perhaps buy into a car sharing company for when I need to get out of the city. I probably ride equally for leisure and transportation. Whenever I need to purchase something large that can't be delivered I'll hire a ute for $60AUD a day.

I don't want to pull it apart and see how many thousands of dollars damage i did to it guys...
It looks so peaceful when it is clean...

Thinking i should just buy the big bore kit for it and be done with it, 330cc will be plenty enough to get me killed at some point in the future and it will probably be cheaper than rebuilding it as a 300...
>>
>>15133662
Ita a two stroke just rebuild it
>>
>>15133667
will still cost around $1800 to rebuild if what i think is fucked is fucked.

Why would you ever rebuild a dirt bike without a big bore kit?
I understand skipping the stroker, but BB rarely contributed to added wear usually.
>>
>>15133854
because its already a a big bore 250 i guess, i just don't want to do the 380 big bore kit on it, i feel like a 380cc 2 smoke would be too much but the 380 kits are cheaper than doing a 330 conversion.
>>
>>15133871
Why would you not go as big as you can? Do you suck dicks? Are you a peter puffer? How tall are you?
>>
>>15133871
Too much weight or too much power?
Can you screw in a gas restriction to limit the poweroutput of a 380? I guess you want to save other internals from getting too much stress?
>>
>>15133883
>Do you suck dicks?
asks the fag
>>
>>15133889
Too much power for the riding i do, i generally look for the hardest single trails in an area and ride on them, more power than the 300 has doesn't really get you anywhere faster

And i could probably set it up to have more bottom end than it does now and no more top end by fiddling with the power valve springs but i know me and i would just run it with no power valve spring like i do now because im a dickhead.

Im just not someone that should have overly powerful things, more confidence than skill.

Triumph tt600 i4. If I'm under 3-4k revs the bike feels like it will stall and it is SLOW going up to 6k in first regardless of how wide I open the throttle but when I hit it I finally have power.

Carbs or EFI?

Probably a fuelling issue, though 600 i4's have no guts under 3-4k anyway.

>Unfortunately, the TT600 was marred by two major issues. Being the company's first fuel-injected 600cc sportbike, the initial 2000 model had choppy throttle response and bad fuel mapping, leading to harsh on/off throttle transitions.

>These issues were fixed with the 2001 model, but some vehicles ended up losing 2-3 horsepower in the upper portion of the powerband.[2]

but yeah 600s don't have a booty on the powerband anyway, it's why the 675 and 750's are popular (and exist) and a growing super-mid class (F3 800/brutale, 899/959, FZ-09 I suppose? Street triple 800) is becoming a thing.

I have an 03 so the issue should be fixed. There's an app that lets you play with the fuel mapping but I want to be sure there isn't a real problem before I do that.

Been thinking about possibly getting a bike, so I can have something fun alongside my daily driver (can't keep a second car)...

It would probably just be for hopping around town, don't need to go fast (read the beginner guides and seems like that's out of reach anyway) or even that far.

Any advice on what bikes to keep an eye out for? I'd like something cute, or something I can take pride in owning and working on. But also cheap. I'm in UK.

By pricing them at a point that is profitable
and at the price point bikes have almost always been at, moving inventory is more important than stringently maximizing every transaction.
>>
>>15135026
mine does.
its dodged car doors opening up into the road moments before they've opened. It can actually see the future and is capable of collision mapping and abstinence.

Don't know, presumably by the sheer popularity of it, they shift bikes like crazy.

How retarded is it to ride without a helmet?

It's been 90+ degrees here the last few days. I commute to work and opted not to wear a helmet yesterday or today. Only go on the highway for about four minutes, the other ten are on 55mph roads. I learned how to ride a motorbike in India and always wore a helmet there, but I'm starting to get lazy in the US.
>>
>>15134851

>have A2 license

Kill me, my only hope is that if Britain leaves the EU, we'll make our own licensing laws and my A2 will somehow turn into an unrestricted license, or at least automatically upgrade.

The fact I have to retake the same test after two years is total bullshit.

>>15135076
you dont have to take our advice and if you want to go full blown 3rd world country on us and not wear a helmet just know that one slip up and your brain will get turned into spaghettio's
>>
>>15135099

Fair enough. I just don't feel too endangered. I leave my house, ride for five minutes on a road which is almost always empty, go on the highway for four miles, then go onto a two-lane 55mph road for four minutes, then I'm going 35mph or less the rest of the way.

Nobody bats an eye at bropeds going 40-50mph helmetless, but have more CCs and you're suddenly tard-tier.
>>
>>15135120

>>15135127
>if you're a good rider nothing will happen

>>
>>15135127

Of course not.

I wear my helmet probably 85-90% of the time I take my bike out. Around town/campus I don't, but I usually do for the commute and if I have to go any long distances.

Skipped putting it on today and yesterday. Feels good, DESU, but I'm not going to make it a habit.
>>
/dbt/, hold me, I think I just lost my riding buddy. We were going to go ride some trails today, he was on his way over and when making the left turn from the main road to my street, a truck turned left into him. He's okay, his bike is a bit fucked but his wife just had their first kid a couple weeks ago. I'm like 86% sure he's going to have to sell his bike and I won't have anyone to go riding with. A concept cooked up in the 80s by Honda, the Motocompo was a 50cc bike designed to be compact enough to be put in the trunk of the kei car Honda City that was released alongside it.

The idea was to have people drive somewhere in their tiny ass Honda Cities and then have some leasure cruising on the Motocompo.

Key features of the Motocompo are the foldable handlebars, seat and foot pegs resulting in a nice square box with wheels that was just 1.1m x 240mm x 540 mm.
