Which is the master race?
The one that fits the bolt.
What about this?
My autism says 6 point cause it fits better.
But all these manufacturers of good tools say 12 point does the job just as well so I'm inclined to agree. My Minimax 3/8s set is 12 point and is very nice indeed
>>15126231
Might be cool until you have a bolt with no space around it.
>>15126217
12pt if the head is in good shape
6pt if it is high torque, stuck, or starting to round off.
12 point because it fits around the bolt at more angles allowing smaller wrench movements which is good for tighter spaces
but who cares its all going up my fat gingerbread fuelled ass anyway, while my dad fixes his car with the wrenches not covered in my shit

This and >>15126279
This
>>15126217
6 point is for mechanics who know what they're doing. 12 point is for shadetree hacks to round off bolts.
>>15126894
You'll never fuck something up with a 12pt if you keep in mind it is a 12pt.
>there is always time for lube
>>15126217
Get 12point. It's useful in tight spaces and fits on 12 point fasteners. I've sheared sit with 12 point wrenches and never rounded anything.
>>15126894
Hurr durr somebody is paid by the hour
>>15126894
I got a few 6pt wrenches and every time I try to use them they won't fit on the fastener because there isn't room to index it.
If they fit it's cool yeah, but they never fit lmao.
I'm an industrial mechanic and I prefer 6 point because it never strips.
12 point duh
>>15126231
Or have to apply any amount of torque and the pins slip and bend
you're all getting jewed out of your money, pic related is the only one you'll ever need
I have a set of 6 point and a set of 12 point and use the right tool for the job

>>15126217
>>15126231
Gatorgrip a shit, 6 point if you want to actually get something loose, 12pt last resort.
>>15127540
I prefer this
>>15127570
These are one of my favs, nice sharp set of channel locks will get anything apart p much
>>15126217
12 points are fucking shit in my experience. They WILL strip the bolt when you don't want them to.
>>15127589
When would you WANT to strip a bolt?
>>15127540
If only that was true, I had to use one of these in a pinch a few weeks ago when I was installing some Sway Bar End links because I didn't have a 15mm combo. wrench.
Fuck these things suck ass.
>>15127626
Exactly.
>>15127589
I use 12 points to remove stripped bolts.
>>15127626
I strip bolts all the time on customer cars if their car is a piece of shit
>prefers 6 point spanners
>has drilled and slotted brake rotors
Any Stahlwille one.
>>15126217
Each has its own specific use.
My tool chest set came with all 12 point spanners, and I needed a second set, so I individually bought 6 points in only the size I needed.
12 point are better in tight spots, and weird nut types
6 points if you're unsure if the bolt head is gonna round off or not.
6 point is better for softer metal.
>>15126217
The fuck's a spanner?
12 perfect when trying to get leverage in tight spaces
>>15128424
Combination wrench, ya wench
>>15128448
Ohhhh, wrenches! Why didn't he just speak English and say so?
>>15127777
The only piece of shit in that situation is you my friend
12 point grips the flat sides of the bolt
6 point grips the corners of the bolt, which can wear them down
Vice grip master race reporting in.
>>15127862
>spanners
ITS CALLED A WRENCH YOU UNCULTURED SWINE
>>15128473
>not stripping every single bolt on your customers' cars and telling them it was like that when you got it
>thread about spanners
>no one has posted a spanner yet, only wrenches
>>15129340
Summer, winter.....can't we all just be friends? Second question: What does "t." mean? I keep seeing people use it.
12 point going to work better in close quarters. You're not going to strip shit if It's The right wrench and the bolt is properly lubed/fastened
>>15129496
>and the bolt is properly lubed/fastened
What fantasy land do you live in where that ever happens?
>>15129538
That's doesn't explain what it means.
>>15129541
One where the people who work on my car aren't rednecks and Mexicans. You should visit, it's nice.
Why do they call them spanners???? Never could figure that out
>>15129617
because they "span" the length of your mom's asshole after I'm done
>>15129550
It's like quoting a person, saying that the person who said the thing was what comes after the t.
t. Alberto Barbosa is the most common one from /pol/
>>15129491
terveiset, it's Finnish for 'regards'
>>15127540
>My (bolt's) sides
12 point rounds off cheap bolts.
I will always 6 point every bolt I work on until I die.
>>15127777
no you don't
>>15127481
>they won't fit on the fastener because there isn't room to index it.
Good 6 point wrenches are offset slightly from the wrench handle axis (see >>15126217 photo). You can get the same range as a 12 point by flipping the wrench over.
>>15132028
Ideally a wrench like that would be flat instead of having the standard 15degreee offset
OP might as well buy two sets if he really wants to get autistic
>>15131645
plot twist - he works at Walmart TLE and just rounds off the drain plugs
Wrenches 12 point, sockets 6. Never ever use a 12 point socket unless it's a 12 point bolt. Fuck I hate those things.
>>15129835
Kek. I always called it the rounding tool because the only use I have for them is making things round
>>15126217
They're situational.
12 point is generally more comfortable to use, and sometimes if you screw in a hard to reach place the 6 point might not have enough movement.
But 6 point is good for grip, so if the screw cap edges got round with the time, you'll need 6 point instead of 12 so it won't "jump" or slide.
