Post mini trucks ITT
I want one of these so badly, but the only ones for sale in my area are beat to shit
Sooo clean

why have the small version of something that is supposed to be big? are these models of real trucks? are they snap assembly? is this a fetish?
there is a thread in /d/ about shrinking you may be interested in...

The Hilux isn't a mini-truck, though. It's a light duty truck.
these are just pickups
or 'utes' down under
wtf is a 'mini truck'
>>15123448
Definently a cool truck, Theres a guy around me thats got 2 of them and an old passat.
>>15123578
ill admit, this is what i think of when someone says mini truck
a pickup truck that is small.
at least i think thats what op means
>>15123596
In America our market is saturated with giant bro trucks/mall crawlers. So these are considered "mini".
>tfw 6 4"

Not him, but mine has turned over twice now. Pushing 300k. Only thing it's ever had replaced since 89 is a clutch, brakes, and standard maintenance.
>tfw so many ranger br/o/s
>>15123697
Yeah 5 digit odo here as well.
I got it around last September and it had about 204,000 on it then.
Or at least from what the previous owner guessed.
I'd love to clean mine up and get a nice paint job and shit but there's a big dent above the cab and the bed is scratched to hell so it would be a lot of work.
>>15123662
Certain sacrifices were made like a junkyard block and trans, but when you're gutting the interior and creature comforts anyway it's not a big deal
>>15123707
Brake boosters always go bad on me with 80s rangers. I also had an 05 elantra that would burn out headlights after about 4 months, both sides would do it; it was wrecked and rebuilt, I'm guessing a wire was pinched or bare but I couldn't find it

The Minicab? Yes, but not all minitrucks fit under the kei jidosha regs. The DFM Mini Truck for example has engines available that are over the 660cc cap.
Any good recommendations on a 80s-90s 4cyl beater? I'm looking to get a 2nd vehicle and decided a small gas saving truck seems like a good idea. Aesthetics aren't important, and I can kind of wrench so I can fix some issues if needed. Just need a little gas saver. America for reference, living in so cal so there are a lot of options.
>>15124577
Fukken nice mazda. Wish I had taken pictures of mine. Wasn't as shiny as yours, but still a godly truck.
>>15125927
what are you driving currently?
In my 4 cylinder 1992 stick shift ranger I get about 20-24 mpg depending on traffic and highway driving so I can't imagine unless you're driving an old pick up or SUV the mileage will be that much better
>>15126136
C5z06. Mpg isn't terrible, just looking for something cheap I can lug shit in. I have an el co, but 80s v8 eats gas so don't want that

>>15127975
heh the rear facing seats are pretty cool, don't think we got them here. Brumbys show up for sale pretty often here but theyre generally super high km and rusted to shit or straight up de-registered farm hacks (that are super high km and rusted to shit). The occasional nice one pops up.
I worked on a movie with a guy who had one. Most people had hired 4WDs and often we'd have to walk gear in but he was always parked right by the set because that little thing did not give a single fuck.
Midsize trucks are shit-tier for DD. They are only good as disposable work trucks
Half-tons are so much nicer in every way. The gas mileage isn't even that different.

Hey guys,
I was looking into buying a '96 Nissan Hardbody for just under 3k. It looks pretty clean (pic related) though it's got more than 300k km on the odometer.
Is there anything I should know about these trucks before I go to look at it? Anything they're notorious for?
gracias amigos
>>15130384
Frame rot, starting right at the back of the cab.
Pretty much all Japanese minitrucks of that era used fully boxed frames. Which means stuff would collect inside of them and rot them from the inside out. My red Ram 50 (above) had severe rust on the driver's side - 2 out of 4 sides of the boxed frame were gone. Dad got his 1995 Hardbody 4x4 kingcab V6 for $300 because the frame had cracked there. He straightened it and welded heavy plate steel to reinforce it on all 4 sides.

I will own a little Ford Ranger one day. A nice green one. That, or a Mazda B-series. Or a Datsun.
>tfw no first gen ranger
every time I respond to a ad on kijiji with a $500 one for sale I don't get a response.
>>15131237
I found mine after going to the same auto part store for a while and noticing it always there since an employee owned it. Eventually I went again for whatever reason and it had a for sale sign. I bought it from the dude before he had even advertised on craigslist or anything.

There's a nice looking extended cab tan first gen sitting on the front lawn of some old guys house a block away from my friends house. Been meaning to ask him about it. I've been lusting after one for almost three years since the first gen is what got me into cars and trucks but I've never been able to acquire the money.
>>15131289
One of my family members has a blue 2wd first pre-facelift Ranger rotting in a field I visit every fall for pheasant hunting. Last time I went I took pictures and got the VIN number but lost it all when I got a new phone cause I'm stupid. It had a couple things living in it yet the interior looked pretty good. Only serious rust I saw was in the bed which is better than other places. It also had dual tanks like the one you posted.

I'm just glad minitruck plates cost the same as car plates. My Ram 50 had class A (4500 GVWR), while my F150 had class B (6000 GVWR) and those were $10 more per year.
>>15131905
A WHOLE $10?!?!!
>>15131946
Per year:
Cars, and trucks 4,500 lbs and under: $75
Trucks 6,000 and under: $84
Trucks 8,000 and under $106
I don't like giving the state anymore money than I have to.

I had two work trucks- one was a new 97 Ranger, then a new Ranger x-tra cab V-6.
The 4-cylinder Ranger carried a 3,000 object in the bed down the freeway. I drover it gingerly, but it made it with issues.
The '97 V-6 I drove for three years. It was reasonably quick in traffic, and handled mountain roads pretty well. I think I put 60,000 trouble free miles on it before leaving the job. I drove that thing everywhere on their gas.
From what I've seen of them in fleet heatercore is the biggest issue.
>>15132164
A good car but its doesn’t qualify seeing there is no truck bed.

I posted about getting a Chev Colorado ext cab and short bed a while back. Since then I've been noticing all the huuuge trucks used mainly for drive-thru food purchasing and parking lot complications.
Many with huge trucks loaded with everything from hitches, 4 X 4, all the way to heated rear-view mirrors don't actually need anything more than a Miata. Fuck those people and their opinions!
V6 Colorado has 305hp and can tow 7000 lbs! My uncle just bought a camper that weighs 2000lbs.
Huge trucks are the minivans of the urban cowboy!!!!
Fuck those people.
What's the smallest truck for a decent price available in North America? I'm planning on a Colorado V6, ext cab, short bed, 18"s, fwd in forest green with nothing else added on except a sprayed bed and cover.
>>15132187
Fully boxed frames are stronger with less flex.
The rust "problem" could be solved with a one time application of underbody seal.
>>15135167
Or if the frame had access and drainage holes so you can rinse all the sand and salt out of the frame.

My hardbody. Second owner at 123k miles, got it at 114k. Sadly the roof line started falling down this week.
Not finding a lot of good 4x4s on Craigslist. How do you guys like your 2wd? Does anyone regret not having 4wd? I don't want to go mudding, just camping out in the Everglades (Florida is very flat and no snow)
My dads rwd Chevy 1500 seems to struggle a lot around the farm going over large tree roots sticking out but other than that it makes it ok.

They had a much longer production run over there, which meant they had to compete directly with much more modern designs from Japan.
Did production end because of regulations or because people stopped buying them?
