Worked 12:01 because of some bullshit meeting this morning that I actually went to. I haven't filled out a log in like a year.
They also changed the lunch break system 6months+ back and I have never used it, so I got a violation with that for taking it after 8hrs. Used to be able to just add it in at the end of the day, but now they changed it where you basically start a stopwatch on the handheld and can't do shit until it hits 30min. So I ended up taking lunch at 2pm, 9hrs into the shift.

In winter we were told to dress warmly and use extra sleeping bags
I finally quit, yeah I know, but the pay was good, we operated in the 4 corners areas only, lots of home-time and the trucks were never more than 3 years old, so I split when they governed all the engines to 59, trying to go up any grade was dangerous and humiliating
They folded 2 years after I left, couldn't keep drivers
Almost forgot, we had a Mexican National driver who would cross in El Paso and get the tires changed on the truck and trailer, he rotated through all our equipment, all regular work was done across the border, just to save a few bucks

Tips for going on the road with a trainer? Pack lightly, and keep up with the trainer's pace. Don't know how yours is, but the guy that trained me at Skyline drove hammer-down 100% of the time, passed trucks even when they were 0.1mph slower and it caused a big backup, and usually parked with <10min left on the clock for the day.

Biggest issue is weight really. The panels weigh a lot, and you would need a battery bank for nights or when it isn't sunny out. It would just weigh a ton, and considering reefer trailers are, by design, a lot heavier then a dry van, well...

I assume that at night it would have a backup generator, but the fuel tank could be smaller. Alternately it could leech off of the truck's APU... I know the opposite has been done, where reefer provides power for the truck's EPU.
Seems like we're moving in a direction where everything on a truck is electric, and that electricity can come from whatever source is convenient at that particular time, whether it be from a battery pack, a running truck, or some panels.
I understand the weight concern, but these new panels are pretty light. Maybe not light enough yet, though.

If it's on a ramp and it isn't in a state where ramp parking isn't illegal they'll usually leave you alone. If it's on a shoulder and you don't have warning devices set up they'll usually stop to make sure it isn't a medical emergency. Sometimes when you're broken down they'll stop and hassle you. Usually just a paperwork check, but if you're a real dick they'll do a vehicle inspection and write you a ticket for everything including what led to the breakdown.

As a regular car driver i use to get pissed when one of you would get in the passing lane on a two lane highway but then i learned you do it because you have a faster cruising speed then the other semi.
