This, to some degree. NSX makes you think of a lightweight MR sports car, as opposed to a heavy AWD hybrid. Interesting as it is to see performance hybrids it's a completely different vehicle to the original.

To be fair, the new NSX acronym is different from the old one.

It's technically not the same model line.
>>
>>15088954
The new NSX exists to boost Civic sales... Civic owners can bench-race the NSX and feel smug about owning a Honda. The Corvette is the same. When /o/ debates best brand, the Corvette represents Chevy, not the Cruze and other shitboxes that make up the vast majority of Chevy cars.

The difference between the Corvette and NSX is: Former Chevy Cavalier owners eventually grow old, retire, and buy their hero (that's why the median age of a Corvette buyer is in his 60s). Many former NSX fans and former Honda Civic owners will now be in their 40s and looking for a mid-life crisis car... but the new NSX is priced too high to take advantage of that market. NSX sales will be miniscule compared to the Corvette.

They took a huge risk and it paid out for them. Which was why it was at such a low production till it got popular 5 years after it's release.

Yes, because the last thing designers have in mind is making a classic.

What's so new and experimental about an electric motor driven awd, with revving mp3s playing in the cabin to pretend the engine has guts? Plenty of other FASTER supercars out there with it for the same price.

>Not naturally aspirated, no vtec, even more pigfat, limited visibility, and it has done far less than blow its competition out of the water.

Honda literally created this car to ride the coat tails of its previous success, it's got nothing in common. If you go to a supermarket and buy powertools, do you still call them groceries? It's a blatant attempt to use nostalgia to market itself to retards.

>Has done far less to blow...
Yeah, the 1st nsx led the way for all future generations of fast sports cars, this NSX is just a shittier version of the porsche and mclaren hybrid supercars, that has had more time in development and will have lower specs.
You can't say that it's a affordable/budget supercar either, because it's not. The original NSX was, but at 80,000k back in the day it was fairly expensive, but not modern day audi r8 kind of pricing, unlike the new one.
They've got no reason to have the NSX less highly specced out than its 3+ year old competition if they are trying to pioneer racing technology and create a new flagship to rally behind.

They're angry because, after a decade of waiting for a new NSX, they received a mid-engined Acura RL.

Objectively it DOES do everything that an NSX is "supposed to do": it's high tech, fast as hell, and breaks barriers that its competitors aren't even close to achieving.

Somehow I don't think people would have been this upset or split if the HSV-010 was intended for production.

I think it's failing into the same trap the old NSX did and the main reason why you really don't see them that much. Honda waayyy over priced it and it's having to compete with a different class of buyer that's not going to buy a honda.

At 170-190k it's in entry level Ferrari and Lamborghini territory and those buyers care more about prestige then anything, and a honda just doesn't have it. Look at the Nismo GTR, Nissan brought in 100 cars between 15 and 16, and there is still 60 of those 100 cars available for sale. Once you get around 150k the class of buyer changes and you really have to prove yourself worthy to get their dollar.

The same thing happened in the early 90s. The NSX competitors the Supra, GT-R, RX-7, and 300zx were around 60k while the NSX was around 100k. For that 100k you really didn't any increase in performance and instead you got a car that straight up lost to some of those cheaper cars.

With the NSX being priced at 170k not only is it completing against the GTR but some of the higher end Porsche 911s, Audi R8 and a myriad of entry level super cars to go up against. The NSX really doesn't stand a chance with competitors like those and with the new supra on the horizon it's only going to make things harder. If honda wants to sell more than 50 cars they really need to bring that price down to 100-120k to stand any chance.
>>
>>15096365
>The NSX competitors the Supra, RX-7, and 300zx were around 60k

it didn't compete with any of those, it competed with the 911, 348 and 355. Same as this, it's competing with the 911, 458 (because it's late as fuck to the ball) and GTR
>>
>>15088954
Because it's just "another" 100k-200k supercar. Generic as fuck.

Why get it when you could get an Audi R8 V10, which looks sexier while still being generic?
Why get it when you could get an Aston Martin or something else that has a soul?
>>
>>15088954
because hybrid cars will be lame no matter how fast they are
>>

It may not have been built to compete with the Japanese GT cars directly, but just about every car review from the 90s used them when comparing it.

When comparing cars most reviewers and buyers will compare it to similarly speced cars and sadly those specs put it closer to the R8, GTR, Z06 and the 911 than to anything like an aventador or huayra,

You may say your an apple but if you look like an orange, smell like an orange and taste like a orange you are going to get put in the bushel with all the oranges.

Honda doesn't have prestige? I think you have them confused with every other Japanese manufacturer, namely Toyota.
>>
>>15096527
>aventador or huayra,
Never said it competed with those.

It literally competes with entry level cars like you said, the R8, GTR, Z06, 911 and even the 570s.

Which is what I said in my post.
>>
>>15096401
Market and price wise, the NSX was not supposed to be a competitor to those cars. Stuck on a track though? That's where it landed and that's where it's performance put it very squarely, like it or not. It even had a market name in the Japanese 90's Supercar segment that got slapped onto most of the comparos between the 3000GT VR-4, FD RX-7, Supra Turbo, 300ZX Twin Turbo, GT-Rs and the aforementioned NSX. It was that same market segment that forced Ferrari to reevaluate their quality control (with the NSX leading the way), for Porsche to start really taking the Japanese seriously in the sports car market and for GM to start trying to get the Corvette to be a world market car.

Pop on the red Type R badge and tell cunts it's your Civic with a few simple mods.

No, it can't compete with the 488 GTB now, it took way too long and is more on par with the 458 (which is why I said it was a bit late)

>>15096573
the 355 and 348 are the exact ferraris I was talking about....

that being said the VR-4, 3000GT etc weren't even close to the performance of the 911 at that time. only the NSX got there

F1 ≠ prestige

Prestige is more how buyer is treated. When you take one of those high end cars in like a Ferrari for service you get a whole different level of treatment.

The high end manufacturers really spoil the owners with all kind of crazy perks, while at the honda dealer they will be lucky to get some burnt coffee and a base loaner car.

>>15096539
And that's the problem it really needs compete with the next tier of super car to justify that price. There are just too many cheaper cars that give the same bang or close to the same bang for a much cheaper price.
>>
>>15096611
You have the figures to back up your claims?
>>
>>15096635
Tbh the NSX isnt designed to be visiting the dealership because of shit breaking on it like a Ferrari

Don't know about other dealerships, but the Acura near me has a mechanic who specializes with NSXs
Everytime an owner wants to get his car serviced they pick it up from his place and give him a loaner for the day, no need to step into a dealership

I don't care about soul or passion. Like I said, why get generic NSX when I could get Generic R8. There is nothing to attract my dollars to it because there's nothing special in it, and if I'm not getting anything special, then there are a dozen options that are cheaper and better then it.

Most knowledgeable owners take their cars to one of the well-known NSX specialists...many of whom have their own shops.

It's called editing, something a lot of car designers don't seem to do enough of anymore. Distilling something down to it's simple essence is harder to do than adding curves and creases willy nilly.

>>
>>15098432
that's because of how low the front hood is, you can't pull that off today, why do you think the new Ford GT from a few years ago had a very limited run? DOT changed the standards so they couldn't make it anymore.
>>15098452
Lots of Aero and DOT regulatory shaping

>>15098394
>What's the new NSX bringing to the table?

it's 4 years late but it had the ideas before the holy trinity came up

http://www.motortrend.com/news/2012-detroit-acura-nsx-concept/

however, the BMW i8 predates even that but doesn't have as much in the way of performance.
>>
>>15098458
>>15098464
>engineering/dot regulations

I understand all of that and the new NSX isn't bad in terms of overstylization.

DOT regulations definitely make it difficult, but I still believe you can get a beautiful side profile of a car even with today's regulations.

>it's 4 years late
Exactly. It's not bringing anything new at this point. NSX stands for new sports experimental and the new one fails at living up to that name.

Ahem...
>>
>>15098481
then again it does have it's torque vectoring coupled with 4 wheel steering and all that noise.

it's nothing new but applying all the tech into one machine for that low a price is a pretty decent achievement.
>>
>>15096715
F1 is a dumb circus of errors, idiocy and out of touch old men living in the past. Ever since they got rid of the cigarette company sponsors 'prestige' hasn't been something anyone involved has been concerned with.
>>
>>15098490
Acura has been doing torque vectoring since 2005. Also, the electric motor based system being used in the new NSX's front wheels has been in use on the RLX's rear wheels since 2014.

The low price is definitely an achievement. They should have just called the car something else in my opinion... It's nothing like the old NSX in any way. It was similar in philosophy at one point, but the massive delays kinda killed that.
>>
>>15098481
>NSX stands for new sports experimental

Not anymore.

The new NSX stands for "New Sports eXperience." It's technically a new separate model line from the old NSX.

>>

Not in that example, you only get one or the other depending on if you get the hybrid model or not.

But porsche has had PVT and 4 wheel steering in the 911 Turbo since 2013.
>>
>>15098537

The Redbull team? They had very loose connections with Nissan. They only had Nissan as a sponsor and promoted their Infiniti brand. Nissan's involvement with the team only goes so far as Renault (the team's engine supplier) has a controlling stake in Nissan. Nissan was never really involved in the operations of the team. Nissan's sponsorship of the team was terminated after the 2015 season.
>>
>>15098537
No? They use Renault engines but that's the only connection between the two companies. And Renault has its own F1 team.
