Was there ever a "sweet spot" year for this car where shit wasn't constantly breaking?
I had a '98 (pic related), and it was ALMOST perfect but it constantly fried ignition cassettes and SIDs and a couple other problems.
Did they ever get it perfectly right or do all Saabs just have "issues" ?
I loved this car so much and would love to own another some day but I don't want to by the newer ones, they don't have the same charm or fun drive.

Nope they all have issues.
By the time the cars were old enough to develop these problems GM was moving SAAB to using GM engines etc, so SAAB never got the chance or money to develop or implement revisions to those parts.

Is there at least a "best" year that maybe just has very minor issues. Like I said, the '98 was nearly perfect but those DICs get kind of expensive to keep replacing every year or so.

2004-2011

What changed besides the fact that they were being built by GM at this point? I'm not really a fan of anything past the 2000-2002
Running in the 90s!

Mine's an '01 and I haven't had problems with it yet, have it since a year
Thing is it's a mismatch of shit gm stuff that'll inevitably get broken

At least GM parts are easier to find replacements for than actual Saab parts, at least in Midwest America.

you shouldn't be replacing them every year unless you are buying fake parts.
is the ignition cassette red or black?
black was the updated version but i dunno if they were more reliable.

Red. I had to replace it twice in the <year I had it. Could have been an underlying issue I suppose but DIC problems are really big with the year I had. Never did try a black one.
1999 is best year desu
