hey miata general (because thats what this is gonna be) I am looking at getting into autocross and doing it with a miata. What should I look for? what should I avoid? any advice is appreciated. I have about 10k to spend on it, but I want to go cheap so I have money left over for when I break shit.
the 10k includes anything like another set of wheels, performance tires, upgraded brakes, and any aftermarket shit I put on it
pic related is what I currently autocross in

I actually got 9/22 for my adjusted time in my last event, and I had someone ask me if I was cheating by running a non-stock taurus. NOPE, THAT SHIT IS 100% FERD FACTORY PERFORMANCE

Look for rust, they come from the inside out on the rockers, so ignore anyone who just says its 'surface rust'. If you see it, its probably fucked.
Avoid the early NA6's, pre mid-91 they switched the keyway from an unreliable short nose crank to a longnose crank. May be a good idea to just avoid the NA6 altogether.
If getting an NA8, look for one with a torsen diff
If getting an NB, try to get an NB2, there isn't much of a price difference between the NB1 and NB2, you get VVT, and a bunch more OEM bracing.
Rollbars are a bonus, ditch a stylebar if you buy a car with one immediately.
If you're running stock power, a BBK isn't necessary, can just go with upgraded pads and a new set of blank rotors.
For aftermarket wheels, look at 15" in diameter and anywhere between 7-8 inches, with about a 25-35 offset. Any wider than 8 inches and you may want to roll. Also look at lightest possible wheels you can get, unsprung weight makes a huge difference in miatas.
Don't cheap out on tires, try to run things like Direzza Z2's (my favorite), RE-11, RE71R, hankook RS3, etc. in a 205/50/15, or a 225/50/15 if you get 8 inches or wider.
