Can't speak for third gens, but I have a manual 02 WS6 that I love to death. It isn't without its faults, but the LS1 and manual transmission are great. The rear end is shit and should be replaced on any 4th gen. Headlight motors and electric window motors will also fail, but those are cheap fixes.
overall I really love my 4th gen and I'd say get one if you like driving.

It's not a screaming chicken, but it absolutely runs fantastically. Handles amazingly especially for having a solid rear axle, too. Currently has 118k on it, only a few simple mods like no cat, advanced timing, and a double roller timing gear and chain (instead of the shitty nylon single chain gear it came with). Next on the list is a new cam since the old flat tappet cam is really lame and worn out.
