what makes for a good drift car? looking at making a drift car but i want something other than the proven regulars, silvia, corolla, etc.

what characteristics make for a good drift car exactly? can one with bad characteristics be made good with weight/suspension mods?

pic related. want to pick one up for doriftus

Something lightweight with skinny bald tires.
>>
>>15081940
>lightweight
ballpark weight range?
it looks like stripping these down can get to ~3000lbs
>>
>>15081940
Also, RWD. 150+hp should be just fine.
>>
>>15081978
so im thinking third gen firebird with 3800 swapped in. 4th gen firebirds with 3800 and 5speed can be found for ~1500. strip to save weight and have success?
>>
>>15081986
stock NA 3800 makes 200hp btw.
>>
>>15081934
also what kind of exhaust do drift cars usually run? straight dump/mid dump for weight or what?

And a long wheel base

What's better torks or high rpm?

Weld the diff have fun, recommended to stiffen the chassis with sway bars and struts.
>>15082203
Torques but cars weight is a factor
>>15082193
Long wheel base= mad weight transfer= mad angle
>>15082183
Doesn't matter, it's not like you're competing in formula D or something
>>
>>15082203
Torks, you want to be able to spin up those tires pretty easily.

thanks man. looks like the firebird build is a go. now just time to wait for the right one on CL.

e36 is the go to drift car here in germany
My local Drift Club consists of >90% of e36s
>cheap
>plentiful
>not pigfat
>giant aftermarket

thats why im thinking firebird, except i like being different. ive never seen a drift firebird build but they are all the things you listed

>pigfat questionable
>>
>>15082665
thats why i made the tread for more information. please post what it takes dude

Not him hut you can drift pretty much anything as long as you're good enough. To give you an advantage you probably want an engine with good power at lower RPMs, tires that arent focused on max grip, a low center of mass, a good set of brakes, and a clutch that can take a beating. Basically what common sense would dictate.
>>

thanks! so as far as tires go, do they really matter at all? is there anything wrong with going and finding the cheapest at the shop since they will be replaced often?

also hoping NA 3800 is good enough. what im seeing online is it hits peak torque like immediately. (~220-230lb-ft)
>>
>>15082665
Not really? You can get sideways in a firebird without issue m8.
>>
>>15083114
I would imagine you can drift fine on cheap tires, you would just have to check them often cause a blown tire at the wrong time can really fuck you up.
