The engine cases are still magnesium though so if you happen to drop it on a rock in just the right way it will break them, or even punch a hole through them. Still a lot less common than the really wide I4s that rub a hole through them in a simple lowside crash on flat pavement.

I do a lot of on road but I like hopping curbs, jumps, hitting trails. I do a very solid 50/50 riding. Maybe 60% road 40% offroad at best.
I want a good mix and not to have to switch wheels/tires all the time. I also like that these tires are good for more than double the mileage of others.

It's my 4th drz400 and my 1st drz400sm. Rest were S models with dirt wheels. I'll warrant they were better offroad but I have no issue with my 17" wheels doing trails/gravel/jumps either.

Also again, I'm not suggesting you go out and pop wheelies inbetween cars or some shit, I don't do wheelies on public roads at all. I learned them just to add the skill, the knowledge and the instinct to my "repertoire" if you will.
You owe it to yourself to learn, go find an empty space, parking lot, industrial area on a weekend, even just a quiet country road or whatever and LEARN IT, be comfortable with it so when it happens and you don't want it to be happening you're not gonna be fucking scared and you'll have that instinct to bring it down right.

Was entirely my fault, trying to use too much front brake when the weight is more centred/rear biased. The handling is actually really good. All the suspension has been uprated and I've nearly lost the chicken strips on tubed dual sport tyres without crossing up.

The last time I locked the front was braking going entirely too fast toward an intersection and I ran over something slippery, pulled off the brakes and reapplied when traction came back no crash.
Time before that was a wet road, pulling off to park and there were slippery leaves, front locked, pulled off brakes, no crash.
Time before that was practicing stoppies and I ran over a rock and it got jammed under the wheel locking it, pulled off, no crash.
Front wheel locking up is not an instant crash if you're mostly upright, go to a shiny concrete floored car park and you can actually try out skidding the front wheel for like a meter or so.

It really sucks as I do love the Triumph. She's getting fixed, obviously, and it does shock you. The Triumph is a 2004 and my sportbike is a 96 and you have to be a much, much better rider to get the most out of the Triumph. The 600 I can ride half asleep and it does whatever I say, whenever I say it. Still, live and learn. Took the sportbike to work today.
