No, I live in a great area. But the problem people use their free welfare bus passes to commute over to my city from their ghetto outskirts of a different city. Once here, they burgle houses in the daytime while their owners are away working. They come over and wait near ATMs too. And they sometimes even walk around in neighborhoods and if they see a lone person, they may mug that person. They commute over to be outside one corporate building and at least once every 2 months, they manage to snatch someone's laptop bag (punch head, grab, run). What really pissed me off was such a mugger did that to a japanese tourist visiting the corporate gift shop and took her stuff. What a memory to bring back to Japan about how hospitable americans are!
So you say you avoid them. Well, in practice, they come to you. They commute to you. They lie in wait for you. It's just you that have been lucky so far.

The situation has already been set as violent due to the punch that actually hit and caused damage. So 2 of 3 conditions are met for castle defense. The 3rd condition is fear of life. Now, that is very easy for the defendant since he was already injured, so he only has to say he was fearful the OP was getting his tire iron to beat his property or body. And yes, you can shoot someone for property defense (after warning them in my state). I thought in arizona they allow you to shoot right away, but in my state you have to give a warning first before shooting them in defense of your property. You don't have to issue warning if they are attacking your body or someone else.
