It IS an MX-5. Fiat just applied their own exterior styling and it uses a Fiat engine. Mazda is actually building them in Japan in the same plant as the MX-5.

My understanding is Fiat is building the motors and shipping them to Mazda. Otherwise everything is built and assembled in Japan and the cars then get shipped to wherever they're being sold.

The Fiat versions actually cost pretty much the same as the Mazda versions, at least in the US.

I don't know what the actual numbers are, but I would say around 40-50% of Fiats in my area of America are manual (with the exception of the crossover 500X).
