I'm going on a road trip and I will need to sleep 1 time.

Is it safe and legal to sleep at a truck stop or rest stop?

Also I have an 05 sunfire. Is there any way I can take the back seats partially out and sleep in the back/trunk?

You mean is it legal to rest at a rest area?

Im not even gonna...
>>
>>15052198
rest area means a place to go the bathroom and eat

not actually sleep

>>15052195
Truck stop, yes

Rest area, depends. You might get woken up by security if they notice your car too long.

Good luck getting anymore than an two or three hours of sleep in a car though

Traveled 6.5k miles over two weeks. Stopped at multiple states and slept pretty much anywhere that looked like a nice place to pull off.

>Out in Arizona .. Maybe it was New Mexico
>Pull off into a rest area at night
>Lock my doors and bring my G43 up front with me
>Grab a couple blankets as it's quite cold
>Wake up next morning drenching in sweat as it went from 40f to 80+

Never had anyone bother me. Slept in hotels in Vegas & somewhere in Cali. LA jolle or something.

I've taken naps at rest areas before on road trips as a kid.
>The 90's were safer
You should be ok just lock your doors.
If the cops harass you just tell them that you were very tired and couldn't drive any more.

On a road trip a couple of years ago I slept in a casino parking lot after being up for over 36 hours.
The security drove by on golf carts a few times and were like WTF but just let us sleep.
In the morning we filled up two cars at their gas station and bought a bunch of stuff at the convenience store.

But sleep is resting.

Ameridumbs I swear.

Rest areas are where truck can park up for their rest break be it 10hrs or 15mins.

In the drivers handbook distributed by the DMV in my state, it states to pull over and rest if you are are too tired to drive. I would assume that applies to rest areas and that you should be able to get at least a few hours. Personally, I'd go to a truck stop though. At least you can get a shower and a meal.

In every state I have driven in the western usa, there have been people taking naps in their car at rest stops. It's not a campgrounds so you cannot live there even though there is a restroom and outdoor water faucet. The isolated rest stops have an attendant's house nearby where they live. They take care of the rest stop.

Many of the rest stops have an approved group doing a fund drive by "selling" coffee and snacks. Depending on the state, it may be all donations since no private groups may use state facilities for private monetary gain. I remember some real asshole drivers come up and take the "free" coffee and "free" snacks without paying. I was irate and asked if he was going to donate and he said with an angry look that he already pays taxes.

They point a handgrun at you thru the closed window. Black Lives Matter.

Riding my moto cross country I pulled into a rest stop and parked on the centerstand between two semis. I flipped around, laid across the tank with my feet on the pegs and fell asleep.

When I woke up one of the semis was gone. I must have been really tired.

You can sleep briefly in rest areas and cops patrol them, but if it looks like you're setting up to get comfy the cops may tell you to move on. I have never had an issue with staying a few hours.

you guys are fucking weird. slept in plenty of rest stops, overnight, during the day, whatever. they're generally safe because people can't get to them without a car, so your chances of getting carjacked are pretty low.

cops won't harass you at all if you have out of state plates. stop worrying. get some fucking sleep.

Today's criminals commute to you and sometimes with stolen cars. In my suburb city, the crims use either the bus system or cars to get to where we are in the day. Then they do their burglaries and go back home later. In one sense, it's like they are working just like the rest of us commuting to our day jobs. Only their jobs are burglary, robbing people at ATMs, etc.

As for police at the rest stops, you want them coming by all the time as it keeps the criminals away and homeless campers away. It's a proven statistic in our region that anyplace with homeless campers is not only a high crime area, it becomes an ultra-high crime area. Unlike rest areas with laws that are enforced on the riffraff, the streets in our city allow vehicles to park up to 72 hours in one spot.moving a few feet to a new spot. Living in cars isn't allowed and is obvious, but the homeless and criminals found a loophole by using vans without side windows, campers on back of a truck, or those RV things.

As a homeowner, they are nuisance eyesores in front of a house. Picture is of homeowner attacked after solo confronting occupants of a nuisance van parked in front of her home for weeks.

Cynthia Nelson said she noticed problems with noise, garbage, and drugs as soon as the van appeared on the public, gravel parking strip -- littering the lawn in front of her house with needles, trash, propane tanks and other garbage

"When you see needles on the ground that have been used by people, you don't want that in your neighborhood," Nelson said. "I just got fed up."

Nelson said she reached her breaking point on March 10 after several failed attempts to try to get the van out of her neighborhood.

She approached the van and got their attention....
