Cars people forgot about/underrated cars
Nobody has forgotten about these. Still pretty expensive to get.

why in the name of jesus would anyone buy an "upmarket" passat for the price of lexus/merc/bmw?! it was rightfully disregarded.
No ones forgotten about the holden commodore mate.
I see 100 of them everyday
>>15026800
VE commos are like 10-20k kangaroodollars
You can get VZ and VYs for like 3-5k

A8 is overrated piece of shit. Phaeton was proper comfy.

Even with 400hp your pigfat slushbox mom wagon isn't doing any damage at the lights.
>>15030556
these are cool. But a guy a few streets from me has one riced to fuck. huge anime pictures on it and stanced to hell
>>15027361
Confirmed for never been in a Phaeton. It deserved the price tag because holy shit it was luxury for the time.
Mercedes et al couldn't hold a candle to this shit. The problem was that the sort of people who buy such cars want to make a statement of wealth and a VW doesn't really do that. If you have to take time to explain to your boardroom associates at the black-tie that the VW is just as good as the S class/7 Series/LS/A8 then it's already failed as a statement of wealth.

Opel Speedster. Still one of my favorite cars.

God fucking damn it.
This thing.
I want one of these so bad.

Shame about the interior.

The transmissions were literally from a truck (Chevy Colorado/Hummer H3) and the rear suspension was literally from a luxury landbarge sedan (first gen Cadillac CTS).
>>15031901
Went to a junkyard in southern Ontario the other day and there were two of these in there. Both were completely stripped out. I've been told they've been there for years and one used to be complete.

or only being 200 lbs lighter than a C6 when it's the size of a Miata
Both cars were also ultimately derived from a European shell and GM managed to completely fuck it up
Never mind GM only selling 11,200 cars at most in 2007 while the Miata sold 3x that easily the same year
>>15043991
Fun fact: The Saturn Sky was cheaper, but had a nicer, better quality interior than the Solstice. Because it has to deal with the European market as well.
>>15044033
>Both cars were also ultimately derived from a European shell

Nope.
>>15037507
Not with 100,000km on the clock. They'd still be around the 7-9,000 dollary doo mark if the mileage was that low. The $5000 ones have at least 150,000km on them.
Too bad most of the people who bought these cars were fucking retards who never maintained them and shifted at redline 24/7 so the turbos, sleeves, seals, and everything else are fucked to all hell. They sell for so little because anyone who knows them knows they're looking at a total rebuild before 200,000km.
MZR's are great little engines but they should never have been forced to handle direct injection and 16lbs of boost, then tossed into the hands of every #YOLO swaggot looking for a turbo import.
>>15044033
No ones making you buy one why are you so angry at them?
>>15037507
>>15044061

I'm probably alone on this, but I actually liked mine. Design is weird as fuck but preformed like a beauty. Never once had an issue with it after 150k.
I haven't seen a running one of these in a while.
>>15031949
The US absolutely got that generation of VR4, I almost bought one for $1800
>>15045317
Nope, the only Galant VR-4 that came to the States was in 1991 on a very limited run, the pic posted earlier was the 1998-03 Eighth Gen VR-4 which did NOT come to the states
>>15044719
Well the car was designed for faggots
>>15026791
those are pretty common
>>15030556
Absolutely.
I tried to buy a plain version as my first car but it was a lemon. Ended up buying another Mitsu lemon. I still want one.
>>15035229
>>doing heads on stock engine
uh, what? Installing better flowing cylinder head(s) is the best single power-making mod you can do, dumbass, regardless of the engine. In many cases even with a lower compression ratio you'll still make more power. If the compression ratio is the same and the head(s) flow better you're guaranteed a significant increase in power.
>>15044719
You could get a vette engine in them
>>15035466
Well, you should be able to get one someday, it is a variant of the Crown Vic, one of the toughest cars built.
>>15035650
Yeah, I like them too. It sucks that the Mazdaspeed 3 only had FWD.
>>15036288
I never knew there was a law deciding how many cylinders you can have. I'd like to fuck with them by having a really good turbo 6. I heard that AU got a Ford 4.0L DOHC turbo inline 6.
>>15037763
I thought the engine was trouble prone because they tried to make a DOHC engine out an OHV engine.
>>15035229
People do well by swapping the early 4.6 heads for the PI heads. It made the early Ford Modular was slightly less sucky.
>>15026791
I see a lot [A LOT] of Grand Prix's (1997's-2008's) on the road where I live. Are those actually reliable cars or were those things just so overproduced that by sheer volume a bunch are still around?
>>15047982
>I thought the engine was trouble prone because they tried to make a DOHC engine out an OHV engine.
The engine was actually fairly reliable. The problem with it wasn't that it was trouble-prone or unreliable. The problem with the engine was that it's a bitch to work on. Alternators go the way of the dodo every 30k, but it's an 8 hour job to replace because you need to drop the sub-frame and remove the passenger side suspension to get to it
>>15048055
My ex has had 2, and I can say without question they are among the most reliable cars ever built. My ex just got rid of his second one... at 290k, still running like new. Hell, he'd still be driving his first one if he hadn't been rear ended by a soccer mom on a cell phone.
>>15027361
Because it's not an upmarket Passat, it's a Bentley Continental with a VW badge.
>>15026791
The fucking Gaz Chaika. The only vehicle with enough room to chop up 30 dissidents in the back, top speed of 99mph and a concrete gearbox.
>>15048084
intredasting
how does it ride?
>>15048160
depends. His had a shit ride due to the shocks being blown at all 4 corners, but when they are all good, it's a comfy, but sporty ride. The car absorbs bumps great because of the fully independent suspension
>>15048205
Is that a rebodied X-Type/Modeo?
>>15048067
Ah, makes sense. Many 90s GM cars had shitty alternators.
>>15048124
I also like that Top Gear episode.

No, it was an all new car.
Good one too.
No-one bought it cos Rover were stuffy "old man" cars.
Then Rover were no more.
Isuzu Impulse/Piazza. I'd really like to see one in person.
How could you guys forget about this car?

>>15048055
A little bit of both. The engine was the redeeming factor in these cars, everything else was decent at best. Quality improved greatly 05-08 but still not the best.
You will never have problems finding parts for them because there are millions on the road. I've seen 3.8's go through some shit and still run great, hell a buddy of mine has a Bonneville with a 3.8 with 180k and a lifter tick, it just keeps on running
>tldr decent cars, don't spend too much money on them unless you're going supercharged
>>15048587
The original is still one of my all time favorite cars and they came up with this? All that plastic bullshit and if I remember right they put the old RL's awd system on it.
No one forgot about it. It's just shit.
Give us a super light mid-mounted NA V6 with around 350 hp with rwd.
