superior race cars? sure
superior mileage? yes
Superior in the experience of riding a couch on rails as fast as you honestly can? not by a long shot.
tfw an xj8 CAN SMOKE MOST CARS ON THE ROAD and is more comfortable at 1/50 the price

Jaguar used to have its own unique style and look. The newer Jags just look like a poor atempt at copying Lexus
>>
Maroon Xj12 here (actually a Daimler sovereign) has been crashed though, front bonnet and wings are full of bog. Brother is gonna take some fibreglass molds and make a fresh front end from fibreglass or carbon fiber for parts cost.

Oddly enough the chrome fittings on the front are all in perfect condition.
>>
Protip for buying classic jag parts use google.co.UK and google from there, you will get much better results than googling from a non English locale.
>>
Lets face it, xj jav is ford mondeo that js produced by indian company tata. Sure that thing is better than porsche bimmer or merc
>>

Hope you're trolling m8. New Jags look 100x better than the god awful spindle styling on this generation of Lexus.
>>

What are those - 20" wheels on an XJ? Fuckers should be shot. Car is probably full of squeaks and rattles now.

Wheels fags are as bad a stance fags. Just fucking stop it. Enjoy your saloon, and don't fuck it up with huge wheels. Niggers.

So the ghetto rims phase had already taken hold by the early 2000s. Surprised it doesn't have spinners.

Big wheels are still a meme in a world with potholes, rain, and curbs.

As nice as they are, the XJCs are from the era of the most unreliable Jags. And since all originally had vinyl roofs, try finding one without a rusty roof.

i am on board about the new xj's not looking fantastic, in 2004 ford kinda raped the design and rounded the edges. they have never recovered. but the 1997-2003 is the money maker.

X Type owner reporting. And yes, it is just a more comfortable Contour SVT with an ST220 engine and AWD. Handles like it is on rails. 3+ years of ownership and no major issues to report. Most major thing I have done was a rear brake caliper when I first got it.
>>
>>15026993
did not know x-type was awd.... conflicted feelings now.
on the one hand: gayest jaguar ever made
weak engine
ugly ass design
on the other hand: awd
jaguar
>>
>>15027350
It's a good commuter that doesn't get stuck easily in the weather I deal with. AWD was optional, but you get the 3.0 if you find one. Mine has all the fancy crap minus the CD changer and Bluetooth but idc. It's comfy as shit.

>>15027572
Not as bad as you would think really. Sure, 0-60 is a tad slow but easily quicker than any Econobox. And it will do every bit of 135 and feel perfectly solid at that speed but as I said I commute with it. The Fury is for going fast.

Yeah, and I am looking at an XFR for a daily while keeping the X Type as an upscale winter beater. I want my maximum comfy still and will continue to buy Jags until they become rock hard race machines.

Yes but they retained comfort with the speed. Compare the ride in a BMW or Audi. It's horrendous in comparison and my source is I previously owned an A4 and an A6. Both were comfy, for sure but Jags are on a different level

So quick question for the jagfags.
I have an 02 x-type rn. 2.5 w/5 speed manual, 102,000 miles. Never had a prob with it. It's in astounding shape desu. How much should I get for it? I was thinking around 4,000-3,800$

Also, how much should I pay for a 2005ish xj8. I'm looking to upgrade desu. I like the comfyness of my little forduar con-type but don't like the 195 hp much.

Just bought an '87 XJS coupe yesterday (v12). I've wanted one ever since I was a kid. Finally, I have my dream car. It needs a little work, but it purrs like a kitten and the interior is still in good enough shape (there's a couple of seams that need to be repaired, but the leather is in good shape). Just a sec, Imma go take a picture.

That's a nice looking XJ-S, those wood veneer dashes like to cracking and peel but thst one looks good. I need one as a project, I want to do a 5 speed conversion, tune the engine a little, and swap out the rear different for one with a better ratio.
>>
>>15028737
Ok so an 02 2.5? If the interior isn't ripped and the paint is perfect I'd say you could get up to 4500.
I've looked at 05 xj8s and honestly if you're going to spend upward of 8k on a jag, just buy a fucking
XJR

God I love XJSs. And the old shape XK8s.

If only they made them in manual*.

* (dunno if they made manual, but I've certainly never seen one).
>>
How unreliable are XJ's really? Are there obvious ones to avoid?
>>
>>15034525
XK8s never came with a manual. The XJ-S did but it was for a short time in the 90's and only with the AJ6 engine.
>>
>>15035871
Pretty much any XJ made after Ford bough them are reliable. The x300 XJ6s are pretty much unkillable, they will easily go 300k miles on the original engine and trans. The XJ8s only really have a problem with timing chains, but if they have been changed with updated parts then there's nothing to worry about.
>>
>>15035908
Had a sit in this today.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201603232241744?make=jaguar&sort=default&quicksearch=true&page=1&postcode=ne126sz&radius=5&search-target=usedcars&onesearchad=new%2Cnearlynew%2Cused&model=xj&logcode=p

Crazy to walk around dealerships and see VW Up's selling for twice the price. I'd never dream of buying a car like that from that garage, as its an absolutely shit garage, but damn for how cheap these XJ's go for and how much car they are, I'm constantly tempted to get rid of my current car every time I walk around a stealership and see one.

It's too bad the more powerful ones aren't more reliable, as 0-60 in 7.8 isn't exactly brisk.
>>
>>15035908
>>15035939
Wait, is the 3.0 V6 in the XJ the same one as in the S-Type?
>>
>>15035959
No. The AJ6 is a DOHC slant 6 that Jaguar used in the XJ-S and XJ6 in the 80's and 90's. It's a fantastic engine.

The V6 in the S-type and X-type is the shitty Ford Escape engine.
