Alright, /o/. Who here is seriously considering getting an electric or other plug-in car for their next vehicle?
http://www.strawpoll.me/10155116
might lease a Bolt as a daily driver for dirty dirt cheap (don't be surprised at a $250 a month lease deal or something) and put the money saved into my 540i wagon as sort of a project car / road trip car.
Beat the shit out of the Bolt because who cares, EVs are the perfect beaters

Maybe I should have put a lease option on the poll. Oh well.
Either way, looks like a majority of /o/ aren't planning on going electric any time soon, if ever. Wonder if that stat will hold in a year or whatever?

>guy on left sprays gasoline
>spark from EV plug in on right ignites it and the EV guy dies
>petrol wins again

My next car will be either a 987 Cayman S, a 996 Carrera 4S, or a C5 Corvette Z06
However an electric car might be an option for a daily driver in like 5-10 years from now
I have a LEAF and a Model 3 reservation.

I'm going to EV swap a toyota shitbox as a project.

Electric motor swaps would be insane expensive since you need the batteries. I don't even know how trannys work with electric motors or if they're even needed.

...I'll just make a go kart then.

No thanks. I don't want to deal with batteries.

You don't need stupid expensive batteries if you're converting a shitbox to commute
I'd do something like have 6-8 lead acid batteries for a small amount of range, then replace the engine with a generator that's designed to run at a constant rate to keep the batteries topped off
A car's gas tank would keep that thing running for a long ass time between fill ups
As for the motor and transmission pair up the electric motor to a manual transmission with a custom adaptor and plate, no need for a clutch
All you have to do it put it in 4th when you're not moving and drive, you can't shift at speed
