Alright Br/o/tards.

Im graduating college in 3 months (business and law degree) and figure i can spend up to 22k (thats my comfortable limit for a loan) for a "new" car to daily.

I have a simple list of requirements
-Daily reliability
-Easy maintenance
-At least 15mpg, higher the better, but anything is an improvement over my 14mpg in my v6 single cab.
-Decent performance; dont care about top speed or turning, just want something that can do 70mpg all day without screaming.

Oh and finally
-Built before 1975 and has a V8.
(assuming i can regear the rear end for better mpg and add PS/PB if it doesnt have it)

Here is a list of things i "like" but very open to suggestions and input.

And you get the idea.

Why would you ever want to DD any of those cars?

This is what I would get in your area in your budget. You don't want anything too modified because you don't know how reliable it'll be.

BTW, the 327 was better than the 350. It wasn't until the 1970's when the 350 finally overtook the 327 as the small block of choice.

Never daily drive a vintage car unless you're cool with just not showing up every other day, and waiting 10 minutes before driving anywhere.

Also, if you're looking for a vintage car, don't buy anything made after 1970. Almost anything you find has an engine gimped by regulations due to the gas shortage.

During the summer, I dd my Plymouth and it doesn't need 10 mins to prepare for the drive. I go and start the car, take the dog out to do his thing, then hop in and drive. So far, no real reliability issues outside previous owner stupidity (which I rectified).

And malaise era cars can be ungimped cheaply and easily. Remove all emissions equipment, swap with earlier heads or port your own. Add a hotter cam and some decent manifolds, shorty, or longtube headers and voila back to normal. Malaise era is extremely cheap atm, so capitalize while you can guys. Sooner or later, all the malaise sporty coupes will be gone and rise in price.

I like old cars, so sue me.

Appreciate it.

If you cant tell from my area, I live in a place where ive ever rarely seen 40 degrees, so warm up isnt too much of a concern. And with my 04 truck, i still am iffy on reliability.

I assume everything i look at will have some work done, more than likely a new drive train.

You'll also have a heart attack any time you park it or have someone veer into your lane. You can insure it, and you'll get less back than what you put into it. You'll also never be able to replace it.
>>
>>15005261
Not gonna sue you, I like old cars too, but I don't daily them, because that isn't the smartest thing to do. You're putting on miles on a car that could be considered a museum piece and it isn't exactly practical nor comfortable to DD a 70s vehicle.
>>
>>15005136
get the torino or the dart
>>
>>15005275
And the point being? Sure, a new car may be more comfy, but that is debatable depending on the car. T bars and squidgy seats make for a good drive and any classic in the under 20k range isn't exactly a museum car either. I've DD'd other classics as well, some better than others, but it can be done with a good maintenance schedule.

My money is on the Dart.

To each their own.
I guess my mindset is simply too practical to understand the appeal of dailying a classic.
>>
>>15005136
How are you going to finance these old cars? Amazing credit?

>fuel injection
>new ignition
>electric fan
>fatass alternator
Literally everything you need in a daily driver already installed. Fuel economy probably anywhere between surprisingly good and smiles per gallon depending on your driving style and highway share.

22 with a mid 700's credit score. Plus most of the places that i can go work at have a signing bonus so to say,

thats a 3000$ fuel injection system, worth.

This is a very nice caddy. I'd drive that anytime and im not big on 60s Cadillac.
>>
>>15005432
I love these caddys, but i feel like even with all the modern equipment, it still would only get 10mpg. But damn.... it would be glorious....

Why not check out plymouths whole line up from that era, cougar, riviera, and some older pontiacs
