As you can already tell, /o/ considers traditional muscle cars to be overblown pigfat boomer trash because we can't afford them. We have "pony cars" instead like pic related. There's probably little distinction in your mind at this point but you'll soon learn the difference.
>>
>>14992214
3rd gen Camaro, late 60s/early 70s Charger or Mustang. Those are the best-looking, so that's what I'd want for a proper muscle car.
I'd go for a modern Mustang if they did it in european trim levels, because they've got it handling like a car and not a brick on a rollerskate.
But a muscle car is MEANT to be too big and stupid and inefficient and handle badly. Isn't it?
What's the point of them if they aren't awful?
I mean, I wouldn't DD them. That's just stupid. I have a proper car for that.

I'm a bit of an oddball. I love American cars, but I also like high revving engines, so I generally happen to like the smaller engines or the destrokers.

If I went GM, I'd probably pick a second gen F-body. Engine would be a 302 destroker (ala 67-69 Z28. 350 block with a 283 crank) for the high revving special snowflake points. suspension would be all pro-touring including a Heidts IRS, and a 6 speed manual swap.

If I went Mopar, it would probably be a 340 powered Plymouth Duster/Demon/Barracuda with pro touring suspension and a 6 speed manual.

If I went Ford, it'd be a mid-60's Falcon with a built 302, pro touring Mustang suspension, and a 6 speed stick.

I haven't decided what I'd do for an AMC yet. Haven't looked into their aftermarket support for this kinda stuff

That happened to the delivery driver at my dealership a few weeks ago. She was in an 05 Toyota Tundra, got tboned at about 45mph and it fucked her up bad, even in a car that new. Had to get surgery on her arms to put in metal plates for multiple fractures, and her torso cut open for internal bleeding.

Also, I didn't specify A-bodies, just muscle cars in general. 67 Camaros had monoleaf rear suspension, for example. 68/69 was upgraded to multileaf.

I've posted about this a few days ago but I'm super excited, I test driving this 79 camaro coupe on Monday. It's a "z28" replica, the owner swapped in a newly built and cammed 350 with edelbrock parts, z28 front rear and side panels, leather interior, new exhaust system and new suspension components. He wants ~6000 but is flexible because he needs the money to buy a 55 chevy. Vin check turned out to be useless because 13 digit vin.

If test drive goes well I'm buying this motherfucker and selling my 84 firebird with a 305 in it and all new 2.5 inch exhaust and flowmaster

i own a 6 cylinder boomer sedan

ive also driven a couple of v8 boomer sedans. I like them for the seemingly infinite torque, how comfy they are, aesthetics, ease of maintenance, engine accessibility and lack of bells and whistles.

But most people who buy these cars now buy them for the collect-ability and for investing, which i think is a shame

t. never read Camaro: The Third Generation by Michael Lamm

They did a fuckton of chassis research and development for the thirdgen. The book shows all the differences and compares the second and third gen's performance with skidpad tests and a bunch of data. It was called the best handling car in America when it came out, and it damn sure deserved that title. Even if the engine is shit, an 82 Z28 will run circles around a foxbody handling wise.
>>
>>14993949
That was the game plan originally but theirs a few impediments:
I live in California so it has to pass smog which means a lot of guess work and tinkering with building the exact right engine that'll give me performance but still pass inspection. The owner of the camaro took all the guesswork out by doing this for me already and it just smogged 4 weeks ago.

The price of a comparable 350 engine would be like 1500-2000 dollar in my area pre built. I don't have the tools or experience to build an engine myself

The cost of having someone put it in for me, or conversely the cost of buying a cherry picker and engine stand plus taking a week off work to do the swap myself and potentially fuck it up + the cost of a rental car if needed since the firebird is my DD

The fact that I got the fire birdepartment for 2500 with 84k original miles and all original from someone really desperate for the money. Im pretty sure I can haggle camaro guy down to like 4500 and then sell my firebird for 4k and basically end up paying 500 bucks for an engine swap when it's all said and done.
>>
>>14992386

Yeah, I've thought long and hard about it, but I think I'd rather do a project me and my late father would've done. Which is either buy and fix up a 67-72 GMC/Chevy 4x4 pickup, or build a 1974 Dodge Monaco Bluesmobile (which I'm helping build one right now!)

All remains to be seen. If I can't get what I want out of the Gran Torino, I'll keep it and fix it up. Don't see them out and about ever (I'm the only one with one in my city that's a fastback I believe) and it's got all the nice rare options.

1966 Impala 4dr 350/350

1966 Charger
1966 Hemi Belvedere II
1967 Barracuda 273
1968 Dart GT-S
1969 GTO
1970 Challenger

There's more but that's the short list of wants.
>>
>>14999413
>have
>2 shitty cars
>had
>many nice cars
Why do I not believe you?
>>
>>14999435
You don't have to. And where did I say any of my previous ones were nice? My Charger interior was fairly scrap as was the Newport and the Chevelle. The only one I really regret selling is the Dart with the 413, but my parents were going to default on their mortgage because of work injuries. The Fury I got because it was a steal and had an immaculate interior. The Datsun was had for 800 and needed a battery and a tune up and she purrs. Or rather did, 3 years of AutoX took its toll.
>>
>>14999461
Well see, there you go.

When you say you had a '66 396 chevelle it's like saying that you've fucked megan fox, it's really hard to believe. Most of those "had" cars are expensive as shit is all, and your current fury does not scream "I have money" aside from the mechanical work. You get what I'm saying, I apologize. I just raised an eyebrow at that list of heavy hitters.

You have great taste, though it'd be hard to be sleeper status in anything like that. People gawk constantly at anything older than the 70s with a decent paint job on it.

You are fine anon, I get asked about my car history and then people see the Fury and go WTF. The Fury is my second favorite so far because mechanically, its built but the body sits in primer with oily fingerprints to make people think it is a beater. Same reason I have Heddmann longtubes >5" collector> 3.5" reducer> exhaust dumps> full 2.5" exhaust with quiet ass mufflers. Hell, I've had people think I had a misfire with the dumps closed because that's what my cam lope is reminiscent of. Sure, its a big car and looks slow but that's the whole point.

The 396 and the TH400 were given to me in trade by my uncle when his Camaro got T boned and he had no use for it at the time 10.1:1, Dart heads, KB pistons, etc. Traded him a T5 with a SBC adapter and anarrowed Dana 60 from a 2nd Gen trans am. Yes, today what I had in prime shape is worth money, but mine were always either swapped or had ruined looks because of neglect. Performance trumps looks in my book however, so if when a project is close to done I have the money for paint or better suspension or brakes or what have you, I go with the latter.

Pic related, a near perfect interior and all original.
>>
>>14999539
Yeah, I've seen your car lots. I've been on here for a long time, I just had never read about your previously owned vehicles. The fury really doesn't look like much, but I know you care a lot about it. Hopefully you don't sell it, would be a shame.

Was about to call you a fucking chad when I read chevelle 396.

And I could see why with you not knowing the background. And that's the goal, the Fury doesn't look like much, so I don't get the attention of a Belvedere or Coronet. However, the powertrain is full bore as im sure you have seen/read before. The good news is when It is beyond what im willing to repair, a friends dad has a 70 Challenger chassis and panels that was a factory 383/727 car with a partial interior he'd sell me for about 6k. I just don't want to go on the hunt for E body trim pieces as they are higher than hell because of boomer tax. I have all the trim for the Fury and can get a whole second parts car for about the cost of a good carb and intake if I ever needed to. C Body mopars are largely ignored in comparison to their Chevy counterparts meaning that although prices have started to rise, they can be had reasonably (albeit most have their engine/trans missing because of a near guaranteed BBM until 1970.The HP Cs with Dana 60 rears are nearly all gone because the Cs were the widest available and axles are easily narrowed to fit A,B, and E bodies. Another pic for posterity sake
>>
>>14999732
I have a build that I think you'll like, but I'm not going to post it until it's done.

Nice car, bud. I hope you get your other wants eventually.
>>
>>14999796
Look forward to seeing it. Care to tell me the basis of the build? And as for the wants, id be happy with just the 67 Charger. God do I want a full length console again, it was my favorite part of mine and was unique as hell. Really was as close to the Turbine as id ever get realisticly.

those weights are fully loaded with a BB. my '69 only weighs 3300 lbs.

The suspension is also highly underrated in Chevelles. Unequal length double-wishbone suspension up front with shock/spring setup (not leaf springs) in the rear makes for susprisingly good handling

>Dem feels
>>
>>15003366
2.79 rear end gears is your answer
>>
>>15003986
I know the feel. There is a fully restored (older early 2000s resto) 383 4 speed 66 Charger for 13k that includes a second roller that is down to metal for 13k. Has a full second interior, but it needs a full powertrain in the stripped one. So tempting to go grab them but alas, im about 7k short.
>>
I would love a 1970 Buick GSX in white. My more resonable in cost option is a 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix Super Duty.
>>
>>14992214
As far as muscle cars go and not including cars that I've briefly owned only to sell right away.

Still own:
>1968 Coronet 500
>1975 Corvette Stingray
>1992 Camaro (i know not everyone will agree on this one, i would too if it were stock)

No longer own:
>1969 Dodge Coronet
>1966 Dodge Coronet
>1973 Dodge Charger
>1967 Pontiac Lemans
>1964 Plymouth Barracuda (also iffy on this one, i only count it since it was a V8/4Speed)

If we're including classics then:
>1956 Chevy Bel air (still own)
>1964 Imperial Crown (gone)

Car's i'd like to own at some point or keep:
>1967 Oldsmobile 442 (honestly i'd settle for a Cutlass
>1970 Dodge Coronet (this one is a must)
>C2 corvette (either completely stock or completely modified, i love both but not between)
>1958 Buick (preferably a wagon)
>1959/60 Buick (Nailhead and if a 4door then flattop only)
>i want to build a gasser out of any 55-57 GM 2door with nice looking Patina. (I've come close a few times, just haven't found the right one)
>a 68-70 Mopar B-body wagon
>any year Mopar E-body
>any 66-72 GM A-body i find for a decent price.
>1966/67 Plymouth B-body and Charger
>Kinda want a 86/87 Monte Carlo to modify (no aerocoupe though)
>Drop top third gen Camaro (only with a LB9 or L98 and 5speed and probably keep it all stock since my Camaro isn't)
>1960 Chrysler or Imperial (with 413 Crossram Wedge)
>This is the only unrealistic one for me, a 69 Daytona or 70 Superbird
>whatever else i find
