Oil temp and pressure are on the center console in the real car but need to be in the guage pack, also numbers on shit like pressure and tempature and tach needs to go to ~8.5-9k redline is 6.5k limit is 7 but it's just a psychology thing for me to rev out the engine more and I dunno why but I really like the way the tach is tilted

The gauge itself is electric in an E36. Signal comes from the OBC and ECU. You can see the readout on the OBC as well.
Not entirely sure how it works beyond that. It's a product of the 90s though so a vacuum system or throttle position sensor wouldn't surprise me.

Having them way spaced out RPM wise like on the 458 is annoying, when you are driving (fast) it's impossible to tell how far into it you are. Having 5 really close would just serve as a warning that gets a bit brighter as you get too close.

No your gauges are mounted upside down. Normal operating range would not be vertical like you claim. And 500RPM is wayyyyy too short. Do you drive really slow bikes and cars? By the time that first light comes on you will already be needing to start to shift.

Modern Porsche 911
- Tach in the center where it belongs.
- Analog.
- Still has coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure... when some BMWs don't even give you coolant temp.
- Round LCD off to the side shows map, etc... you don't have to look down at the center console, but it doesn't take over the instrument cluster either.
- The hilariously polite way it gives warnings... like "Consider remaining range" when low on gas.
