When will this trend end?
>>14981704
When self-driving cars become the norm and you don't need gauges anymore.
>>14981704
because no one tried this yet
>>14981741
>tach that small
Some people drive their cars. The cats don't drive them
>>14981750
>needing a tach when the car shifts its own gears
>flat guage packs
When will this trend end? I want a aviator style cluster.
>>14981741
Could you handle a tach that was a digital number? Have there been any dashes with that? I'd think it might get annoying seeing the tach change all the time.
>>14981704
Still preferable to a big fucking screen without gauges
>>14981817
>a big fucking screen without gauges
This is literally the future.
>>14981807
>>14981750

>>14981704
I don't know, but I do know I am pretty sick of it.
I'd like to point out that my generation doesn't read analog dials
I've got a car with a digital mph readout and it's much, much easier to glance at when you're driving
>>14981880
replace boost with battery, and put a boost gauge top dead center between the two main gauges
>>14981741
>kinda looks like is300 gauges

>>14981704

>>14981910
is300/altezza gauges are sexy af
The only good gauge clusters are those with the tachometer in the center.
Everything else is shit.
>>14981994
Nice Probe cluster.
>>14981908
no
thats fucking wrong
didn't you read
What do you guys think?
>>14982006
It's from an fc rx7
How about tach on the left, boost, fuel, and temp on the right, speedo in the middle, and an information screen in the middle of the speedo?
>>14981841
>redline at 12000 RPM
I like the way you think

this is best layout.
Simple, efficient, elegant.
>>14982124
dont be butthurt because you were wrong
>I will never have these guages
>>14982008
Its okay, no one is perfect
wait, are most cars speedo left and tach right? Or is it speedo right and tach left? I've been doing tach long enough that I thought it was on the right.
>2016
>chink tablet
>OBDII adapter
>Any tach/speedo I want
>$40 starting
>>14982241
You want the tach toward the center of the car. Mostly cheap RHD based cars have the tach on the left (in LHD markets).
Turdgen gauges best gauges
>>14982251
No, you want the speedometer on the right so that your passenger doesn't constantly snoop on your speed.
>>14982249
Literally rather ram a boom completely up my ass and die slowly from a perforated colon than look at that for another second of my life.
>>14982266
So what if they do, you are the one in control of the car, they are submitting to you. Own the role.
If the analog speedometer was replaced by oil pressure and a boost gauge (for turbo applications) it would be prefect.
>>14982290
this is stupid
>boost gauges are not useful when you are driving fast enough for them to show something
>If i glance down at rpm the only other thing i see is that i have fuel
>if i want to see how the engine is doing (temp and oil press) i have to pick out digits from a cluster fuck off to the side and recognize what they mean
2/10
>>14981783
That's fucking great. I feel ashamed that I have a newer chevy.
>>14982249
I like the idea, but I've never seen it implemented in a non-ugly fashion.
>>14982120
It's actually pretty nice, but how can a old guy deal with all the digital stuff.
If it doesnt have volts and oil pressure then it's G A R B A G E
>>14982399
That's what the cel/warn is for. Oil pressure low, it pops up there.
Besides massive analog boost gauges are the tits.
muh 100x tacho
>>14981955
OP here. I meant that the center display is digital.

Yeah they do
You know you want to.
>>14981887
>so much easier to look down at and interpret numerals than to identify the position of a brightly-coloured needle in your peripheral vision
I just like having a huge tachometer and the digital speedo. Kind of spartan. Does the job well though.
>>14983346
Although I don't think I care that much as long as the tachometer is in the middle and it has a, "who fucking cares what speed you're going", vibe.
>>14982290
Not using a full inHg for manifold pressure.
>>14983365
Two niner niner two
Because it's the simplest way. Although I would imagine most non car people don't give a fuck about anything other than speed. Battery, oil pressure, tach, water temp. Useless to your common driver.
>>14983371
prevailing ambient pressure
Digital a best
>>14981837
>oil life, mpg and a clock on cluster
>not water temp, oil pressure, etc
0/10
>>14983394
That is offensively 80s.
In airplanes, the gauge clusters are designed in a way so that when everything is alright, all the gauges point in the same direction, so that when some part of the machine starts going tits-up you can immediately spot the odd one out.
I think there's generally too few readouts in modern dashes. I want to look at a huge bank of data about the car, given that they already install so many fucking sensors everywhere.
>>14983418
The sensors are already there in most modern cars
>>14982037
OH YES
>>14983432
Try reading the post again! If the sensors are already there, why do I only get to see shit when the CEL goes on?
>>14982239
Starquest dash is only good dash
>>14983418
You do, I do, most people here do. Problem is it's a minority. People only care about speedometer, that's it. Your average person only needs that and a message center to tell, not show the issue.

They're pretty great.
My old third gen Voyager made it to 350k before the rust got too bad to keep it on the road and still ran like a top; the fourth gen Grand Caravan (or is it a T&C? Beats me, there's no badging and I always forget) I replaced it with unfortunately only made it to 170k before it started having head gasket and tranny issues that would cost more to fix than to just get a new van.
Driving a late model Toyota Sienna now and it's not great, not great at all. Everything's backwards, there's dead buttons everywhere for the higher trim levels, the lighting is awful, there's zero room inside despite being larger on the outside, and so on. For all the shit Chrysler gets they do make the best minivans.
