first time I ever rode a motorcycle was when I was 17 at a then girlfriends beach house hanging out with her when she went to get a coffee and I found this bad boy in the garage. hadn't been run for years, probably needed the points cleaned and the gas changed out but I fucked around for a solid 2 hours bump starting it and having a blast. 10/10 shitebike

No.

Everything on the front end is working fine. It's the rear that's having issues. I'll throw it on the stand and try to film it later.

>>14968676
For what I want to use it for it doesn't really matter what it looks like. I just need to wrap the wiring up in tape to protect it. Main issue it the rear brake drags REALLY badly at the moment when it's off the stand.

It's hard to photograph but you can kind of see here. The wheel isn't straight.

Don't you wish there was an easy case you could put your bike into and then check it like a piece of luggage at the airport?

Reposting from last thread

My dad had been riding Harley's all my life in an attempt to seem more American after moving to the U.S. from Denmark. I bought a bike for myself when I turned 16 and I've been riding ever since.

Basically just grew up watching my dad ride and riding on the back of his bikes.
>>
Called in at work today, got bitched at by sub manager, didn't give a fuck but put on my usual "I'm really sorry ma'am this won't happen again" tone since this is the first time calling in.

Went to a junkyard with my friend to see if they had a left side Integra mirror. Pulled a bunch of honda emblems because why the fuck not. He gave me all his unused cb700 which I conveniently needed, and free scissor jack. Also bought another CRV picnic table for 7 dollars and found like 2 tool sleeves I swiped and a little first aid pouch that we took and used as our tool pouch. Easily earned like 70 dollars in parts just for not going to work today.

I rode half helmet for years, no helmet on campus. Wouldn't do it now. only really fat bugs like junebugs hit you, the rest are part of the windstream unless you hit something like 116mph (which I did, it was like driving into a wall of damn mosquitoes). basic fluid dynamics keeps you safe from most things.

anyway, it's not bad as long as you have sunglasses. the only problem i ever had was in my full face when the glass was up a fraction and a wasp literally exploded on my cheek- stinger first.

Nah I don't bother with the plugs. My bike is super fucking loud too. My helmet does however have cloth/leather ear flaps on it that keeps out 99% of wind noise. I don't really ever feel fatigued after rides. I still don't think I could go fully without a helmet though. I do still want to live in the event of a fender bender Kek.

I can't back down the driveway in a cager without my seatbelt. same thing. riding without gloves is the worst, I'll take a spin in the neighborhood without my helmet but never without gloves.

on the obverse I rode to a guys house and bought a riding jacket for $30, put it on to get it home and it was the first time I felt really refreshed after a ride instead of windblown and beaten up. I bought a better jacket but I still use my $30 beater for cold weather riding.

>rev like bambambam and pop the clutch
>WHOABOYWE'REMOVINGNOW.webm
>get to the top of first in no time, thing's pinging off the limiter
>can't seem to let go of the throttle
>slam the shifter into second without even thinking about the clutch and WHOABOY off we go again
>get into third somehow then finally manage to get off the throttle
>start to enjoy riding it around the paddock
>come back to the top end of the paddock and slam down on the shifter with the clutch in and reef on the rear brake hard to pull a sikk skid
>never used the clutch to shift the whole afternoon

The funniest thing was after a few laps of the

it's just an opinion you tend to develop after riding long enough. i generally just ride helmet and gloves (because helmets are mandatory and i keep my gloves in my helmet), but i've been on and off streetbikes since i was old enough to get my license. my chances of going down are statistically infinitesimal compared to newer riders. riding no-gloves is just viscerally feels really strange if you're used to riding with them. i'm not sure i've ever ridden more than around the block without a helmet on but i'm sure that feels incredibly bizarre as well.

What is considered high mileage for a sportbike?
>>
>>14969137
At the dealership I work at we won't even consider taking a sport bike in with more than 40k miles on it. If they're kept up and taken care of you can get a lot of miles out of them but most people don't take very good care of their sport bikes and they ride them hard all the time. If I were you I'd look for sport bikes under 30k miles or so just to be safe.
>>
>>14969137
anything above 8k as far as most people are concerned. with proper maintenance, motorcycle engines can last a long, long time. there's a video of a guy on youtube ticking 250k on his f4i, claims no engine rebuilds.

the caveat to this is that to most people sportbikes are toys, and treat them as such as far as maintenance goes.

Why
>>
dear dbt,

I've been trying to figure out how to cheaply get a start on motorcycling in order to see if I like it or not.
I recently found out that I can drive legally in my state with a motorcycle learner's permit - only costs $20 and requires some written tests.
I think I'll buy a helmet for about 60 bucks and maybe rent a dirtbike or something to try stuff out.
Is it a terrible idea to squid it for a couple rides to see if I'm interested?
Also, motorcycle and dirtbike rentals are extremely expensive. You could buy a bike for what it costs to rent one for 10 days. Any cheaper method I haven't thought of?

yeah but is a half face helmet really going to protect you from getting spaghettified any more than a full face? it seems like you'd have to hit something in a way that a full-face helmet wouldn't protect you anyway (ie, smashing into the corner of something where your visor is). i'm pretty unconvinced that a chin bar on your helmet is going to sufficiently protect you from said spaghettification in scenarios where it is a possibility.

the original supermotos were just dirt bikes with street tires thrown on them. some manufacturers latched onto the concept and offer them like that. the archetypal one is the DRZ-400, and there are some other manufacturers who offer them as well.

dual-sports on the other hand tend to be larger displacement machines which are more purpose-built towards putting in miles on the street, so firmer suspensions, taller seat height, etc. when i think of dual-sport i think of the R1200GS but i'm sure someone with a shitbike will call me out on that

>dual sport has firmer suspension than supermoto
>r1200 is a dual sport
Consider yourself called out.

The original supermoto is a motocross dirt bike with Street tires AND Street suspension. There are some stock supermotos now, mostly from KTM, and the DRZ from Suzuki.

A dual sport is a bike literally designed to function both off road and on road 50/50, they're basically heavy dirt bikes with lights built for reliability. The KLR650, DR650 and XR650 are prime examples, along with the F650 and some would say the F800/G800.

The R1200gs is an adventure bike, another tier of weight and limited off-road capability above a dual sport, designed more for long distance travel than trail riding.

I'd recommend using a different bike for delivery work. A CT110 with a pair of panniers and a hard case on the back is an obvious choice.

the original supermoto looks like just MX bikes with flat track setups to me.

Why would supermotos have street suspension if they're still doing jumps again?

What is the difference between "street" an "dirt" suspension in your eyes anyway, do you just mean settings? springs, fluid, travel? what?

Why does an Enduro bike have suspension for endurance riding and why does an MX bike have suspension set up for MX riding?

Thats right anon!
because its better for the task at hand.

San Diego. And I would, but money is a problem there, which is why I was hoping I could just use my current bike.
>>
>>14969626
what makes this "street" suspension?
>>
>>14969626
i think you're missing something. "street" suspension is generally interpreted to be firmer overall than dirt suspension and allowing for less movement. the point is that the original supermotos were still doing jumps, which a street-tuned suspension is poorly suited for.

goddammit that is some funny shit. what a fucking faggot.

It's in absolutely no way an adventure bike. The line between dual sport and adventure bike is blurred by things like the F800GS sure, but the quintessential adventure bike is the R1200GS, and the quintessential dual sport is the three Jap 650's.

Mostly stiffer springs and increased damping. A "street" supermoto and a set up MX dirt bike are actually going to have pretty similar suspension, but your typical trail bike is going to be super soft comparatively.
>>
>>14969631
Those can't be stock. Those shocks are beefy as fuck.
>>
>>14969631
Its not, its obviously set up for racing you spastic.
Long story short, race suspension = stiff as frozen shit, enduro suspension = not quite as stiff shit, street suspension = unfrozen shit.

every supermoto, supermoto racing is 1/2 dirt 1/2 road.

That's what makes it supermoto.

pic related is still supermoto.

looks pretty normal to me, most 450's have 48mm forks.

I live on the other side of the world, so no sorry.

Main thing is you're pretty much guaranteed to be in an accident or drop your bike. CT110s you can pick up and keep going without really thinking about it. Parts also cost basically nothing.

>>14969644
i don't know about you, but i don't particularly feel like the prospect of planting my ass on frozen shit after a jump like this
>>14969631
is particularly appealing
>>14969647
i said "original" because the DRZ i've rode was sprung a lot stiffer than any dirtbikes i've ever ridden. maybe it had a weird setup though.

Your wrong again. Enduro suspension isbthe softest there is because you're running over shit constantly.

>>14969643
That isn't, but have you seen a stock DRZ?

At the local Suzuki dealership I have, but I never really paid attention to it since I was there for my V-Stronk. Dayum.

check out my motard guys! YES its a supermoto because its half road half dirt. even tho the only thing dirt about it is the tires. NO the hypermotard is not a true supermotard because it wasn't converted from anything.

explain how this bike competing in a supermoto race is not a supermoto.

Go on, I'll wait.

I mean, I'm just trying to illustrate how stupid y'all definition wars about supermotos is in the first place because it's gonna be bloody hard to describe how this isn't a supermoto.

I mean fuck me, apparently an integral part of whether something is a supermoto or not is your bloody suspension settings, that's how finnicky this bullshit apparently is.
>>
>>14969659
Enduro suspension is hard or soft depending on the terrain to be honest.
