What's /o/s opinion on gas. I personally use shell and chevron. But they are a little pricey so I was looking into costco, anybody have experience with there gas? Is it good?

>>
Not OP, but does it really matter in shitbox?

It all has to meet standards doesn't it? As long as the gas station isn't too old and they go through gas quick enough, does it really make that big of a difference ?

Costco is the best fucking station in existing.

>Hose reached either side

No promo codes, not zip code to enter, no carwash to decline, etc

No paper towels, and squeegee either so the crowed moves fast.

If you don't get gas from the NEX, I feel bad for you son.

all I know any gas that has top tier branding has a special certification of quality

there has only been one time that I put non top tier gas in the GROGMOBILE35 and I personally didn't see any difference

but yes Costco master race...tho there are some local Arco stations that are only like 3 cents more per gallon and you don't need a membership
>>
>>14964173
>not being smart and avoiding rush hour to get gas

If your engine is direct injected it really doesn't matter if it has special nitrogen or techwhatever cleaners. Your intake and valve are never going to see any of it anyway. Might as well use the cheap stuff.

My mom got gas for her 2000 Corolla from some unbranded corner station and then her car threw a check engine light. Autozone guy told her she may have gotten bad gas before she even told him about it. She went back to her regular station after that and no more CELL.
>>
>>14964238
"bad gas" is a meme. Not a real thing unless it's been sitting a long time.
>>
>>14964245
So then what was the problem bud
>>
I like to use mostly top tier providers on gasbuddy, and then sometimes one or two local gas stations near me who have good quality gas
>>
>>14964238
sounds like the car was throwing a vent code for the gas cap. since you know, woman.

my old gf had a altima, everytime she filled up it lit up that stupid icon for the gas cap.
i never had it light up.
dumnass never tightened it, apparently she thought the clicks were bad.

I can see shitty gas stations having really old gas, or old holding tanks, or moisture in the tanks, or whatever, but even the shittiest gas stations get their tanks refilled once a month.

my project car ran fine on 2 year old tank in the gas. no issues with it, no noticeable difference after getting fresh gas either.
>>
>>14964245
Bad gas isn't a meme. Shit filtration systems, bad pumps, and unclean tanks are real issues. These problems aren't immediately obvious with EFI, but with Carbureted you can tell almost immediately that you just bought dirty gas.
>>
>>14964251
Who knows. intermittent problems happen all the time. My civic was throwing a pending misfire code, went away after i swapped the 1 and 2 coils. It didn't come back even though I replaced no components. 3spooky5me

my wife put whatever in her 1.8t for a long time and sure enough we started having backflow from the fuel pump and/or dry injectors in the mornings. Put a couple 93 tanks with fuel system cleaner through it and it cleared right up.

Never knew about that. Pretty neat.

I use BP, since it's about a mile from home. But there only like 3 left around here. They're all become Valero for some reason.
>>
>>14964183
Arco gas makes my cat rattle like a motherfucker, but no other stations gas does.
>>
>>14964122
In my limited experience, gas brands aren't really an issue. I've had trouble with one or two individual gas stations - I think the problem is older storage tanks which leak water.

Whatever the issue is, theres 1 gas station in my home town that I avoid so my car doesn't run like shit.

Also, I generally will pick a newer looking gas station over an older one.

any /dbt/ here?

any bike troubles with certain gas?
>>
>>14964934
He's partially right. There are federal regulations dictating the content of gasoline, octane, how it's made, etc.

Along with state regulations.

Where you get screwed is how often are the station's tanks cleaned & purged. How often are the pumps inspected. How often is the filtration system inspected... etc. Depending on the oversight of the parent corporation and the honesty of the station owner, this can vary from regularly to never.

How many of you drive on based LPG? In Poland it's literally the third of the price of gasoline. Average price of gasoline is around 4.26zł/L (=~4.22$/gallon) while LPG costs around 1.6zł/L (~1.59$/gallon).

>thinks costco runs oil refineries
its the same gas. I dont know who their supplier is and they may arbitrage between the big ones like BP, shell or exxon. either way, its not the brand that matters. it's the particular fuel station. the reason most independent fuel stations are top kek is because they're derelict stations bought on the cheap. rusting and contaminated fuel tanks fucking up your fuel system. especially in rural areas where there's no big company to audit proprietors to make sure they're not just saving money. most chains will just build a new station and abandon an old one due to the cost of environmental rehabilitation and tank replacement.
>>
>>14964173
Are you in oahu? I just got stationed here and im surprised at the cost of gas compared to cali. I was told itd be much much worse.

My Jeep runs best on ethanol free 93 but it can be retuned for 89/91. Usually it depends on the price. Since gas is still cheap I buy the expensive stuff but if it gets back to $4 a gallon I'll run 87 and deal with the pinging.

Big oil industry is ruining this country. I only buy gas from local independent shops like Conoco or Sinclair.

I don't know, my car said it's recommended octane was unleaded, but I always seem to get the most time between fillups with mid-grade fuel.

I live in thebsouth subs of chicago and 2 years ago I found 1!! Gas station that does not add ethanol to their fuel and my car loves it. Better throttle, gas mileage, and just an all round smooth experience.

I'll greentext the story as I heard it from my coworker
>guy I know went there to fill up his truck
>soon after its not running right and it's making weird noises
>he takes it to a shop and they drain the whole thing
>shop tells him that the gas had water mixed in it
>>
>>14967100
Jeep guy here though. It's an 81 Wagoneer with the same 360 V8 they came with in the 70s. They seem to be hit and miss with a lot of guys who own them. Some run all day up and down mountains on 87 without an issue but other like mine do fine in town on 87 but as soon as you add hills or load situations like a loaded trailer it starts pinging. Carb is freshly rebuilt, timing is perfect, compression is good, ignition system recently upgraded to better Ford TFI system and it still pings on low octane under high load. It'll run good on midgrade 89 or 91 (whatever the station has in the middle) but I've been liking the 93 because it doesn't have ethanol in it but once gas prices go up again I'll probably go back to 89/91 or something, just never 87.

nevermind i read a little more and found it on page 20 its 87 octane.
>>
>>14968152
>>14968165
I don't really know what you're getting at though. I know it's supposed to run 87 and that some guys do but mine doesn't like it. I can take a recording of the pinging noises the engine makes on 87 going up hill if you'd like and see if you would still recommend it.
>>
>>14968247
Actually just found this on page 47

>PING OR SPARK KNOCK
>Possible cause
>Fuel octane rating excessively low
>Correction
>Try alternative fuel source

All other stuff on their list is fine on my engine except for sharp edges in combustion chamber which I didn't even know was a thing.
