My dad travels nearly 200 miles. He currently has a 2003 Land Cruiser which he bought out of enthusiasm like 5 years back and ever since that car is fucking him in terms of money. Not of the reliability but the awful mpg it gets. He needs a new big SUV. I told him the new Tahoe. He's attracted at the 23mpg the truck's got.

Did I suggest good? What are your opinions on the 2016 Tahoe?

Also, General Tahoe Thread.

Why the fuck does he "need" a big ass SUV? Especially if MPGs are a priority
>>
>>14962008
He's a contractor so he frequently has to travel small equipment and other construction tools.
>>
>>14962020
>small equipment

tell him to ditch his ego and buy a sonic
>>
my dad has a 2007 tahoe with 350k miles, tranny broke at 200k miles and cost 5k to replace
>>
>>14962020
A "contractor" doesn't need a god damn 2016 Tahoe.....

You don't buy a new car just to ruin it.... Obviously, he needs something much cheaper.
>>
>>14961978
Tell him to buy a USED 2008-2013 Tahoe Hybrid. You'll get around 20 MPG no matter what in that one.
>yfw the Tahoe Hybrid was 2008's "Green Car Of The Year" award winner
>>
>>14962105
>hybrid
>6.0L V8
My kinda hybrid.
>>
>>14961978

18 MPG combined is poor for the class it competes in. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid gets 28 MPG combined. It's priced very similarly despite the hybrid tech, with a base price only $870 more than the Tahoe.
>>
>>14962020
he needs a fucking Outback and not a Tahoe

>>14962063
apparently you get razzed on the job site if you don't show up in at least a fullsize American truck. no one ever accused construction workers of being grown-up.

It does have a lower cargo capacity than the Tahoe. Your dad should evaluate how much space he needs to determine whether or not the fuel economy is worth the trade-off in cargo capacity.
>>
>>14962151
what does razzed mean does it mean they lay him down on the fold-down third row and get inside his boipussy
>>
>>14962060
That's pretty impressive if that's the only major malfunction. Also, chevy 350 is my boner engine of choice.

No, I just like to reply to posts in chronological order.

What about the Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel? 20 MPG city, 29 MPG highway.

and it's a diesel!
>>
>>14962170

They're satisfactory.
>>
>>14962151

>he needs a fucking Outback and not a Tahoe

They get similar highway MPG, might as well go for the bigger vehicle if you can afford it. Tahoe's aren't even that big compared to a normal truck.
>>
>>14962194

when trucks/suvs try to squeeze past me in parking lots, i don't budge

i'll pull up just to make them have to back up and adjust their line so they don't hit my car

i can't wait til gas prices go back up again
>>
>>14962179

I don't think it did.

Thank you.

don't ask /o/ for advice. They are shit heads. When you want a sports car they say miata. They think they know things but they don't I've worked in Contracting. Had a 5.2L V8 Dakota with 300 ft-lbs. Sometimes it wasn't enough torque to haul supplies around and we would go so slow going up hills. We upgraded to a half ton f150 5.4L 300hp 365tq. It was just enough to get the job done.

My mom has an 08 Honda Pilot, and I got to test drive a 2015 Tahoe. Honestly the Tahoe feels small and easier to drive. The power, holy shit the power is so nice. There is a ton of low end torque, it really gets up and goes in city traffic. What I noticed is the 2nd row is absolutely massive, but the 3rd row is really tight. Like the 3rd row is the same size as the Acadia I shit you not.

The Interior on the truck was amazing, absolutely loved it. I was driving it around for a wedding, escorting people around for pictures and shit. I noticed with my moms Honda and 6-7 Adults in it, it becomes really slow. With the Tahoe, hauling 6-7 people, + supplies in the small trunk, it felt fine, didn't slow down at all.

Only issue is price. In Canada they start at like 50k. If I had the money I would buy one in a heart beat. I wouldn't recommend your dad go out and buy a new one for contracting work.

Both the 2016 Silverado and 2016 Tahoe are 80 inches wide.
>>
>>14962177
Transmissions on those are garbage.
>>
>>14962020
Then tell him to get a Turbo Diesel Pickup or shut up. Ram 2500 Cummins or Silverado Duramax, maybe the new Titan XDDDDDDD
>>
>>14962204
idiot

contractors are all idiots

Something like this with a fibreglass canopy/shell, although I'd say a 1/2 tonne would be fine.
If new I'd be looking at either the diesel V6 Ram, or Titan XD.
>>14961978
How much does he have to spend?
>>
>>14961978
>>14962020
For reliability and empeegees, check out the Mazda CX-5 and the new CX-9 thats coming out. They might make him look kinda gay at the construction site, and I'm not sure they have enough power, but you can get them in AWD
>>
>>14961978
It's a good choice as far as big SUVs go. A diesel Mercedes ML, Jeep Cherokee diesel or Ford Expedition turbo will get him better mileage though. The next generation Land Cruiser set for a 2017/2018 debut is supposed to by a hybrid so he might want to wait for that.

Nigga, the new Tahoe gets an EPA estimated 22-23 mpg.

Patrols in overseas markets, and now we have our own domestic offering worth buying.
>or a Cummins V8 worth putting in one
Are you implying Cummins can't make V8s? Sounds as though you have some horizons to broaden, and some growing up to do.
>>

*highway
around the city, it's closer to 14 mpg. The hybrid gets 20 mpg no matter how you drive.

It seems that a Truck with a bed cap seems the best suggestion for my dad. But he told an SUV.
>>
>>14962341
Don't cylinder deactivation work?
>>
>>14962364
Even with the cylinder deactivation, combined fuel economy is no more than 16 mpg. My father has a 5.3L 4x4 Silverado with the cylinder deactivation. The highest gas mileage he ever got was 18.7 mpg on a road trip down to Florida. City mileage is basically what you will get every day. Hence the hybrid. The hybrid uses the electric motor COMBINED with the cylinder deactivation to do its work. The electric motor helps mainly at speeds below 30 mph where the cylinder deactivation doesn't do anything. The cylinder deactivation helps significantly on long highway journeys.

>>
>>14961978

Why not get a Suburban? I know some people don't like the additional size but the mileage will be identical. I remember my old Suburban with almost 200,000 on the odometer would still get almost 20mpg when I drove like grandma. Could haul nine people and all their shit too.
>>
>>14962362
Yeah, that seems a better idea if your dad works in such a heavy utility field.
>>14962377
No wonder they only show the highway mpgs on the ads. Thanks for the enlightenment.

>No wonder they only show the highway mpgs on the ads. Thanks for the enlightenment.
hence why I suggested the hybrid Tahoe. And if you treat the gas pedal like it's made of fucking glass, you CAN get over 30 MPG. Here's a review of the Tahoe Hybrid's sister car, the Escalade Hybrid where that was done.
