>sweet
>won't buy anything that's a manual in case mom wants to drive it
>every car thay I had picked out is ruled out instantly
>say they will just cash my money on a Chanel purse for mom
Am I just being a baby? What are some fun automatic cars that are around $30k? I was looking at a Volvo S60.
>>
>>14930101
A Chanel purse has a better chance of actually appreciating in value than a shitbox new or used.

You should be thankful you ungrateful piece of shit.
>>
>>14930154
My mom doesn't take care of her purses, or any of her things for that matter.

She has a good $50k in purses she's abused in just the past 2 years alone. Including 2 Chanels which are nearly worthless now.

He always pokes fun of me for buying it, and his business partners poke fun of me for driving a shitbox.

Just get a white IS250.
>>
>>14930584
What about an S60 or V60?
>>
>>14930101
The S60 isn't too bad, you can likely pick up a newer enough Volvo for a decent enough price. I got my 2008 V50 T5 for $7k used, dealership wanted $10k. I said I paid $7500 for the XC70 I was in and wouldn't be interested in the smaller car at a higher price, and it worked. That is sticker prices though, not out the door. The V50 is pretty fun, handles well enough and feels fast enough and is fun enough. If you do go for a Volvo at least try to get the sportier T or R models, and a Volvo might be an easier sell to parents because of safety and all that reputation they have.
>>
>>14930609
How is the XC70? Another parameter I was looking at is comfy. I have a bad back, and it's hard for me to get in and out of cars... but I can manage it. The XC70 being a bit higher looks like it'd be easy to get out of.

I'll tell you what to do although you may have already fucked it up. What's PIVOTAL is that you get them to put it in your name. Give them some bullshit about how you want to be responsible for keeping it insured or whatever. Get them to buy the most valuable car you can get outright then immediately trade that motherfucker in and g]et what you want. It can even work if they finance it as long as it's in your name and they made a fat down payment.

Notice that this is almost stealing from your parents and they'll be pissed about it and MIGHT have grounds to take you to court but they'll respect you for it eventually.

It won't matter since your parents are loaded, but if you want to maintain that end of the bargain you're going to be dipping into the funds you saved up.

Also, your mom is likely to ruin it if she gets keys too.

>not buying a shell
>not fitting an entire Land Cruiser drivetrain in there
>>
>>14930625
It's comfy enough, I'd recommend a much newer one as some of the older ones in the early 2000's have transmission issues that eventually got remedied, but it's nicer to not have to fix a known issue or try to prevent it. It's comfy enough, pretty good for long road trips. The aircon in the back mine has is pretty comfy, and the ride is good enough (although mine is getting struts replaced, so it has been not as good as before lately). I'd suggest trying one, only warning is if you run into one at a dealer, they can go pretty quick-although any Volvo has pretty good odds of being a thing to jump on then at the dealer as it will likely not be there next visit.

How has nobopdy said a 2nd gen CTS-V sedan? Luxury for the "professional" appearance, 556hp, available in an auto, can be found for under $40K. Even though its more than 2 years old im sure you parents wouldnt care since it fits both of your standards for the car.

It's not LS or LT powered. Hell, it's not even a V8
Different chassis
Literally the only thing they have in common is the tranny, dumbass. Also, the NA 3.6 still has over 300HP

Find something with a complicated start procedure.

I bought a manual specifically to keep my mother from driving my car.

The next car was a truck with a 5 inch lift and no side steps, because she's short AF.
>>
>>14932801
>When she drives, I'm getting in with her. No exceptions.
Then why would she need to drive?

There's gonna be exceptions.

Get something with a caged fuel pump toggle, a battery disconnect, and a push button start.

Rich people are all unhappy as fuck, see this very thread for a good part of the reason why.

Better off poor and happy. At least i can drive my 450rwhp soarer and my parents don't give a shit it's missing paint.

That's because they don't love you.

Nope, GT35 on a 1JZ. Single turbo I6 master race.
Still auto at the moment, saving so i can do the manual conversion properly.

Declining a free 40k car and throwing a tantrum because you can't get exactly what you want are two very different things.

Not seeing a tantrum. He's voicing frustration with the arbitrary restrictions they've place on the gift on an anonymous forum and asking for ideas of what will be the best option within those limits.

they're not buying you a car anon. your shitty parents are buying your mom a car while at the same time pretending to be good parents. bet you'll need to negotiate for the ability to drive it every single time you want to leave the house. sounds like your parents are assholes anon.
>>
>>14935669
This, or get an M with an SMG (is this still a thing?) and pull all the SMG bullshit off and convert it to manual once your parents are out of your anus.
>>
I dated a girl once with parents like these. Their entire family structure was in such disarray. I had to quit dating her because of it. She had two brothers, one was in his 20's dating a stripper. The parents payed for his car and an apartment and his silly lifestyle. Her other brother was becoming a druggy and always running away from home, yet the parents would do nothing about it. She herself was starting to become an unstable materialistic bitch. Her family had 3 lake houses, a main house, and a horse farm. That's all that I even knew about, if that puts it into perspective.

The point is, no matter how rich you get, a shitty human being will still be shitty. If you were truly a wise man you would separate yourself from these poor souls. Go to college, get a degree, and get away.
>>
>>14930101
The Hyundai Gen Coupe 3.8 is a great car and my understanding is that the auto trans is actually superior. Go give it a test drive.
>>
>>14935705
Agreed.

OP, this whole thing was a test by your dad to see if you'd stand up for yourself or be a doormat when faced with unreasonable terms. Sorry bro, you failed.

Same happened to me OP, parents offered to buy me a car(very rich ones),their acquintances for bussiness also made fun of it blah blah blah everyone made fun of it basically because it cost only 1.5k euro.
While they are driving their BMW SUVs (which I drove and I could fucking say a corolla is more fucking fun than that shit).
I get some fucking fun driving a beat out 90's Celica.

>>
>>14930101
OP, get a truck. Your parents will like it because its big, safe, and automatic. They don't have to know you will eventually be using it to tow motorcycles, race cars, or other fun things to race tracks.
>>
>>14936329
>Race tracks
Why would I need to tow my car to I-895? I can just drive it up 95 until I get to the exit.
>>
>>14936355
OP is getting a free $30k vehicle with the stipulation that it must be a boring vehicle and have automatic transmission. A truck is the obvious answer. He will thank himself for choosing it instead of trying to make a volvo into something cool and fun in the very near future. I wish I had a free $30k truck, I tow all my cool shit around with a $3k craigslist hoopty.

Parents who say buying your first car with your own money build character are the same kind that don't give a fuck if you go to university or do well in school.

Don't fall for the character building bullshit it's just an excuse poor people say.

The mainstream banks we go to for the most part are fine about it, but back then there were tons of subprime loan branches. They'd look at all that info, see a total heap of shit for financial history and credit, and provide a loan anyway.

I'd let my parents get me a fat snazzy DD and get a AW11 or some shit on the side if I was craving excitement and could afford another car. Leave the used M3s etc. for later when I could get just the spec I wanted and not get raped by insurance so hard.

my choice, XC90 T5 Momentum. Or T6, if you can haggle or talk your parents up to it.

On a serious note, you're asking the wrong people if your parents "rule out instantly" every car picked. Better talk to them about it and what they consider acceptable, since it's their money/choice at the end of the day and by your wording, they are losing interest.
