Homogenizes uncommon and unique cars. This is a bad thing.
>>
>>14921188

This. That being said, I would never do it personally, and judge you a little if you do. Quietly. I understand your reasons completely, but we just have to agree to disagree.
>>
Not their fault the rotary is so shit to begin with.
>>
>Americans can't make own sports car.
>They have to nigger-rig nipponese shit.

I'm dying.
>>
>>14921198
Pretty much this. It's like putting a four stroke engine into an old two stroke saab.
Or an i4 into anything that had a v4.
>>
>>14921184
>implying that means shit.

The engine just outputs power my friend. If someone made all the necessary modifications for the engine to work, there shouldn't be a problem with the car once it's working properly.
>>
completely ruins one of the best parts about the car
>>
Too stupid to do oil change every 3k miles
stupid enough to fork out 20k+ to be a special snowflake
>>
>>14921247
But that's the thing, they aren't special snowflakes swapping out the snowflake engine. They instead become the normalcucks.
>>
I want to call them dumb for taking the rotary engine out of a car made for rotary engines but supposedly the FD is a really good balanced chassis on its own.
>>
>>14921278
It makes them a double special snowflake

Every burger swap in to a non burger car is proof that USA can't build a chassis to save its auto industry.

They're dumb to maintain a rotary so they spend more money on a nigger rigged engine that makes the car slower.

The fastest RX7s aren't V8 powered, or even 3 rotor, the fastest FD to ever lap tsukuba was 13B powered.
>>
>>14921510
>that vacuum cleaner hepa filter
>>
>>14921232
Says someone with no experience with cars.

Power delivery, torque curve, redline, engine noise; these all have a dramatic on the car's performance and more importantly its character.

Part of an FD RX-7's charm is that wailing, low torque high horsepower rotary underhood.

Swapping in an admittedly powerful and reliable, but "lazier" LS V8 just strips away some of the car's charm.

Sure a stock LS7 will put out more horsepower and much more torque than a stock two-rotor, but for the gain you throw away what made this car such a neat little machine to begin with.

And I'm not trying to bash tuning or engine swaps in general because I get them, done right you can either enhance or flush out what's already lurking in a decent car or rebuild a duller machine into something unique and desirable.

But an FD already is unique and desirable just as it left the factory. I especially don't get why these cars get chopped up when at the same damn time Mazda was making another light, balanced sports car that can accept a V8.

The Miata.

It had a normal inline four and modest output to begin with so you're not losing anything by replacing the stock engine, and they've sold more than a million of them so you're not hacking up a rare, hard to find gem like the RX-7.
>>
>>14921205
>>14921434

You stupid eurofucks. Look at the pictures posted. They're all taken in counties with funny shaped license plates and URLs with more than 2 dots. Not America.

Fact is that the chassis and layout on these cars is pretty good, they can be had cheap, and they can benefit from a cheap, light performance engine like an LS.

The Rotary eXperiment is pretty good, but just doesn't have the money poured into it to make it a good all around engine yet. Hopefully soon.

So it's not that we can't make a sport car, it's that other countries can't make an engine. Your own people clearly agree.

But please, keep posting proof of your arrogance and those noses pointed high.

Depends on the car and the engine.
SA22's are kinda suited to V8 swaps. They're solid axle cars, reasonably light, and they don't handle as well as later generation 7's.
An FD is great with an engine swap, but they're great without them too. You can't deny the sexyness of a well-executed single turbo two rotor.
RX-8's being swapped is something I'm perfectly fine with. That cars is a disgrace to the RX lineup, hosts the worst rotary we know of, and it should've just come with a 2.3 DISI turbo from the factory. K-swaps, V-ates, whatever, just go ahead. With the cheap, cheap price of rolling chassis nowadays, there's no reason not to.

>>14921188
I like people's freedom, but I dislike throwing long iron 2JZ's into a car that was designed for lightness. Now, an ATTESSA AWD swap with an alloy block RB26...
>>
>>14921482
High revving isn't important in street cars though.

I think a lot of euros and Asians don't fully comprehend American car culture. Much of America was built with automobiles in mind. Lots of freeways and long straight Boulevards. Classic American car culture is about cruising at low rpms down the Boulevard on a Saturday night in big hulking machines with honking V8's guzzling cheap gasoline, and flying down long stretches of straight highway going from town to town. The high revving corner killers, while still popular in Burgerland USA still have their place in the culture, but it's not as set in as the monster Chevy and Ford boats that many of our parents grew up on, or the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. Swapping in inefficient v8 engines is the American way. Cheap gas and straight roads have shaped our car culture and sometimes it's hard to understand unless you have grew up here, and remember a time before le fast and furious cucked car culture here.

>>14924302

In America a car represents the idea of freedom that one can pack up and drive along the great expanse of highway and start a new life. America is quite large and has long stretches of highway connecting city to city, town to town. Sorry if you can't comprehend the enjoyment of cruising down this expanse in a monster machine with nothing but the view of possibilities through your windshield and the past in your rearview mirror, punching it and feeling the torque pin you back into your seat as you enjoy your cheese burger and freedom fries. And stop trying to be so edgy pretending you initial d to work everyday in your 1.2 litre econobox.

Fuck tard.

You cannot expect something to be good at something it was not intended for. Just because you can use a hunting rifle for killing something does not mean it will be a good weapon for concealed carry. A pistol can kill something and be concealed, is it inherently superior because it does something that the rifle was not designed for?

I didn't think so.
>>
>>14926769
>You cannot expect something to be good at something it was not intended for.

So corvettes can't turn because they're not intended to turn? That's your argument?

And just because a boxster or S2000 can turn, that makes them bad cars for the open road?

Fuck off retard.

The S2000 is designed to never have a roof. All of its stiffness is engineered into the lower chassis. A corvette loses 40% of its rigidity when you go from the standard base coupe to the base convertible. 40%. The base convertible is NOT a performance track vehicle. It is a pleasure cruiser. Reviewing one to represent corvettes in general as track vehicles is extremely disingenuous.

No, corvettes can't take super tiny narrow turns as well as tiny narrow cars, because they are wide for stability in high speed turns since they are a GT car. A souped up S2000 with the same horsepower would be FAR less drivable in those same conditions because its wheel base is too narrow for the job, and the Corvette isn't ideal for conefagging because its wheel base is too wide and its engine is too powerful.

Must you always hide behind strawmen to defend your poverty gokarts?
>>
>>14926954
this is the same reason C4 corvettes are actually better than C5 and C6 for autocross all other things equal
>>

what are rotaries even good at? I heard they are relatively fuel efficient compared to pistons if you are using them in race cars. is that true?
>>
>>14927121
>I heard they are relatively fuel efficient compared to pistons

lol no, not even.

They are more efficient at power delivery (less moving parts to eat away at torque), and power to weight.

To compare fuel efficiency you need to look at it next to something 3 times it's displacement.
>>
>>14927101
>What are Apex Seals going after a few miles
Go ask people running 12A or 13B motors from the 80's how they're still running beyond 170k with no rebuilds.

If you literally cant top off the oil every 3000 miles then you should kill yourself. There are fucking BMW's that burn more oil than rotaries for fuck sake.

People get RX-7's to pass smog all the time, It's not that big of an issue. They are equipped with proper smog equipment stock.

>this is also horrible for lubrication
Isn't that what oil is for? A good amount of owners use two-stroke premix along side oil injection anyways.

>You mean people who don't exist?
You should go check out a rotary enthusiast board sometime, older N/A rotaries will last forever on good maintenance alone.

>Isn't that what oil is for?
Not the amount that was getting into the engine, it was pretty much a two stroke even by your own statement.

The FC a buddy of mine had would spit blue smoke every few hundred miles.

It isn't just topping off at 3000 miles, it's a complete oil change, draining the whole engine. Not to mention the metering pump was complete garbage.

Metal Shavings from the Apex seals eating themselves would also be something to worry about from time to time.

He sold it after 150k and a few rebuilds (and got an Evo 7 instead that he also sold later on).

His was the S5 Turbocharged version however.

The best modification you can do is delete the oil metering pump and just stick to throwing two-stroke premix in the tank when refueling.

Exploding apex seals only happens with piss poor maintenance or lean spikes shattering them.

>extremely disingenuous
in what way? If GM produces it, then it should be allowed to be reviewed.

>>14926954
The R35 GTR has a much longer wheelbase than the C6 and it runs fine on the same course n numerous BM tests. Having a long wheelbase is not an excuse for being dangerous to drive on winding roads.
>>
>>14927656
The C6 vert isn't "dangerous", just slow compared to any other C6. Only a fucking moron is in "danger" with any modern sports car, which also invalidates your "point" about the GTR.

>boxster lacks a roof compared to cayman

And is designed around being a roadster and its chassis reinforced as such. The C6 vert is an after thought for retirees and rich wives. The C6 chassis is not meant to compete without its roof rigidity in ANY meaningful sense. The C6 vert is not intended to be a competition/serious sports car. Its a highway cruiser. The C6 vert isn't a boxster; its like a cayman someone sawed the top off of as an after thought to sell to faggots.

>>
>le oil burning meme
They don't burn enough oil for It to need topping off between oil changes. And modern cars burn significantly more oil than a rotary ever would, metering pump broken or working correctly.
> BMW spokesman Hector Arellano-Belloc said “BMW engines may consume up to one quart of engine oil per 750 miles under certain driving conditions” andthat performance models are known forconsuming even more oil than that.

Except an LS can be made to rev just as hard as a brap
http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/4-8l-crank-ls3-block-how-to-build-an-8000-rpm-ls-stroker/

They also barely add any extra weight, you add maybe 2% more to the front end.
Beefier diff and the batter in the boot and you've pretty much even'd it out

All while adding much more power, reliability and for most people, a better sound.
You also reduce emissions, use less fuel and spend less on maintenance.

>>14921510
