Here is a fun one for ya.
People doing that is why the brakes boil on ktm390's and its a meme for being a shit beginner bike, they stomp the rear brake into the ground while pulling the front all the way to the bar and wonder why their brakes end up locking.

Daily reminder if you can't do stoppies you're not entitled to complain about ABS.
>>
>>14912014
i'm a little out of the loop as far as beginners go, i can admit. but that strikes me as more of a problem with peoples' education than anything inherently wrong with the brake system itself. are people who give that little of a shit about their safety and development as riders really at any less risk for getting fucked up in general?

Ducati has the best front fairing and headlight design of any current sport bike. My god do they ever put time and attention into the styling.
>>
>>14912026
Considering those same people were doing fine on bikes without ABS beforehand i do not see why not, it is just teaching bad habits and most countries are enforcing that beginners have to learn with ABS.

i don't do stunner shit (not even willies) so i can't independently confirm, but ABS documentation explicitly warns you that stoppies are still possible and it's (obviously) still up to you to properly modulate your brake lever.

I think of it like this, they simply do not know any better and its the generation that relies on technology riding the bikes, they can put all of their force on the brakes and nothing bad happens so they do all the time because its fun.

>most countries are enforcing that beginners have to learn with ABS
the whole anti-ABS thing spontaneously makes a lot of sense now. i didn't even know that. i'm from murika where ABS is a luxury. maybe ABS really isn't for beginners. i could get behind that. i really don't think there's anything wrong with ABS in general though.
>>
>>14912040
the moment the rear wheel starts lifting you will get a discrepancy in front and rear wheel speed in the sensors.

new ABS systems are tied into the 6 axis IMUs and will actually allow you to jam the lever on at FULL LEAN ANGLE and the bike won't crash so good luck making one of those do a stoppie.

You'll still get a discrepancy in the wheelspeed sensors and it'll think the front is sliding ergo needs less braking force ergo the rear will drop back down.

It's kind of like the traction control system in the GSX-S1000, it doesn't technically have an actual anti-wheelie function (anti wheelie isn't a safety feature, it's designed to make the front wheel just hover to get the best drive on track) but when you do a wheelie with the TC on, eventually the front wheel slows down and it spoons torque off and slowly brings it down.

That being said in my experience cheap ABS systems don't put you close enough to the threshold to get you doing stoppies, the one on the CB400SF probably cuts in at 70% of "stoppie power" in my guesstimation.

Three vertically oriented symmetrical head lamps would be quite striking on a bike, and it'd be unique as well.

more power, more relaxed highway speed.
>I can't imagine parts are easier to come across.
that has nothing to do with engine size
>>
>>14912444
harder, actually. there are far less ninja 500's around than 250's. the benefit is just power, which is irrelevant if you're trying to learn to wrench on it. pre-rework EX250's are going to be bikes you are going to have problems NOT finding parts, becaus of their ubiquity and the fact that they were virtually unchanged for close to 20 years.
>>
>>14912437
I don't understand why they would let their children play out in THAT road though. I could see playing in the street of a residential neighborhood, but a county road? Fuck that noise. I think they just used "B-but the children" as an excuse for their own pet peeve.
>>
>>14912444
500s have highway passing power that 250s lack, and as such they're much more usable, you're likely to keep them longer.

probably, but in that guy's mind he was probably just doing the right thing. doesn't make it any less retarded, but i don't have any trouble believing that the dude really did think on some level that he was watching out for his kids. lots of shitty people try to turn a new leaf for their kids and are only half-way successful.

that's a pretty killer deal actually. those panniers are probably a pretty penny new. i rode an ex250 for about 4 years and they're very solid bikes. not amazing in any way but they are perfect to learn on. feels weird going on the highway because you are going to be winding the fuck out of the bike, but the bike doesn't care. i used to ride for hours at a time at 90 on a 250, which was probably 80% of the rev range in 6th. those miles are a little intimidating but you said you wanted to learn to wrench.

>>
>>14912981
>rebuild kit
Those don't come with floats.

The float is two pieces of plastic with a metal piece held in by a pin that moves that needle to close off fuel flow. Google how a side-draft carburetor works to get a good idea.

Thanks to Ethanol, which eats plastic, carburetor floats tend to lose their floatyness after a while, which causes them to stop cutting fuel flow to the carbs, which results in too much fuel entering the venturi and blowing back into the airbox.

tldr your friends floats are either sitting too low or just not floating.

Go up US191 (don't die pls) from Morenci to Alpine. Head SE on US 180 down to Silver City, NM. Go north on NM15 all the way to the end to get to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. Come back south on 15 then go east on NM35. Take a left at the T to go east on NM152. Keep going to Hillsboro; take your pick of south on NM 27 or further east to I-25. Go south to Las Cruces and stop in Hatch if you like green chili. Blast east from Cruces to see White Sands National Monument; too bad you missed the full moon down there because it *glows.* Keep going east to Alamogordo. You like good Mexican food? Well go to Casa de Suenos up in Tularosa. Go back down to Alamoghetto and head east on US82 up to Cloudcroft. Get fuel there. Fucking go south on NM130 to Sunspot Highway and ride that shit ALL THE WAY DOWN to Timberon; you'll FUCKING LOVE IT. Just don't do it at night because elk. If you're hungry at that point stop in to the little bitty diner on the right at the T-intersection just before the airport. Tell Connie that Chris sent you and that I said hello. Bring cash, though, the last time I was there they didn't have a CC machine (bad internets & spotty cell coverage). Goddamn calzone's worth it though. If you have an ADVBike, look at the maps and pick your way back to wherever. Otherwise, blast back north on Sunspot Highway then go east on 130. Then take the NM24 road down to Pinon. If you're headed east then keep going. If not, turn around at the shitty little general store in Pinon and head back up to finish the tail end of NM130 up at Mayhill. Head back west to Cloudcroft and Alamogordo and then wherever your final destination is. If I was still there (was stationed at Holloman), I'd show you around but now I'm in Iowa.

I miss the Sacramento Mountains. See pic for the western edge of 'em. Plenty of dirt roads and trails all up in there, too. If you're into science shit, then stop at the Space History Museum in Alamoghetto and then the solar observatory in Sunspot.

I was stationed in Clovis for four years of Hell. I was stationed in Alamogordo for three and a half years of recovery. I hate a lot of things about New Mexico, but there's a lot of natural beauty and surprisingly good roads to be found if you know where to look and have a vehicle capable of taking you there. I wish I'd bought my DR *years* ago.

Also, NM159, 163, 63, and 59 are all lies. Well, 159 is anyway. The road is half washout, half rocks, and half pain. But again, you can see some fucking gorgeous terrain out there. I made the mistake of taking my Miata out there. Broke the one side of the bracket holding my intercooler on (I apparently lost the bolt for the other side sometime in the past). Fortunately it didn't hurt the hoses and the IC was beat up but airtight. Also I left a lot of my car's undercoating on those rocks. Was fun nevertheless.

How much money is it to own one?

I will be adopting.

Me and my gf will be moving in together and I'm kinda worried about finances but I really want to have a buddy.

every motoGP cunt has cute dogs and it's making me quite jelly too.

I know I can't own a dog living in my tiny apartment though.

Call up your local pound and ask what the adoption fees are, they'd be more than happy to help.

You're going to need to factor in food, a bed, toys, a lead for walking it, and probably a crate to transport it anywhere in the car without ruining your interior.

Not to mention vet bills if it gets sick, registering it etc.

Have you considered a different animal?
Bunny, 2 ferrets or something along those lines?

Having an animal helps with depression and feeling down, I really dream of having one.
