1999 Impreza WRC
>300 HP @ 5500 RPM (FIA regulated)
>354 lb-ft @ 4000 RPM
>top speed less than 150 MPH
1999 Lancer Evolution VI WRC
>300 HP @ 5500 RPM (FIA regulated)
>398 lb-ft @ 3500 RPM
>power and torque at low RPM
>top speed well below 150 MPH
Too much low-rev shifting? Engine would probably self destruct because it's not moving at the speed rally cars go? Too awesome?

1: Emissions and fuel economy regulations
and 2: Those transmissions are FAR from practical for everyday use.
>>14909227
The transmission alone is easily 200k, too. So...even with mass production, it'd stay expensive
>>14909219
Only designed to last a race would be the main reason.
>>14909242
Not only that, but a lot of times, the WRC cars have drivetrains that can't be easily replicated, especially cheaply, on a normal car.
Example: The Hyundai Accent WRC.
powered by a 300 HP turbocharged 2.0L version of the Beta engien from the Hyundai Tiburon and Elantra of the time. But you couldn't get the N/A 2.0L in an Accent factory (though that swap HAS been done), nevermind the bespoke AWD systems specifically made for the rally car.

Because they don't last. Race engines are not built to last. Production engines are.
Additionally, racecars are driven by experts. Most cars are not.
>>14909227
dont forget reliability.
people get mad if their engine explodes at 50 000km instead of last 300k km. detunedetunedetune
and lets not forget the cost of the forged internals and cast cams ect.
the average buyer is a company buying taxis or fleet vehicles. they dont want performance. they want a car that lasts. a taxi can easily run up 10 000km in a week.

exhaust wrap
>>14909296
>implying that will change the engine needing a complete rebuild every 100 miles.
>>14909219
No, the engines would self-destruct after a few thousand miles because the anti-lag system old school WRC cars ran used to dump absolutely incredible amounts of fuel.
You ever seen a turbo glow white before?
On the hot stages, they did.
And also because dog boxes with button clutches aren't fun in traffic.

oh lawd i'm lmaoing for real

it changes the fact that it's a meme that people put on shitboxes and the exhaust header literally melts from the heat after a single race.
just an example of the many many things done to race cars to give them that little extra edge for absolute shit tier reliability.
