I first seen that car in Sex Drive.. and am reminded of that film every time i see it...
America has the best names, even for their economy cars.
Pinto - a breed of horse
Bobcat - another name for a mountain lion
Lynx - another wild relative of the cat family
Cavalier - a known station of nobility
Sunbird - an obvious reference to a phoenix
Escort - a high class hooker well versed in suck, squeeze, bang, blow (not necessarily in that order)
When the Europeans name economy cars, we get shit like a Marina, Allegro, Mini, Princess, and the Maestro.

What is it with the Japanese giving cars either retarded names like the Magical Utility Wizard, or naming cars after British librarians (Gloria, Cedric, Silvia)?

Aside from the fact that it's the Japanese renaming them when they export them to the US, not the US renaming them when they get them, the most sensible answer would be for ease of identification. Referring to cars by chassis code is commonplace overseas but not so much in the 'states outside of people who like overseas cars already, so it's simpler to go 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, 280ZX, 300ZX, 350Z, etc than "Datsun Fairlady (By Nissan) 197X-201X."
>>14905009
Dude. Fucking seriously?

I always thought Olds had fantastic names as well (past the plain-jame numbers they used through the 50's), even if they weren't crazy long or out of the ordinary.
