They all do it on purpose. The only thing VW did wrong, as I have said before, is getting caught first.
My friend bought a used A3 diesel with in the last year. If he takes the buyout instead of the fix. He will get back more money then he spent buying and running the car. It will be like VW paid him to drive it. Then he will take the profit and buy a tesla model 3.
