What does /o/ think of pickup truck toppers?
>>
>>14889655
They're nice.
Its good for certain purposes. Like it you have a bunch of stuff that you don't want to get weather damaged.
Or stuff that will fly out without trying to use a tarp.
I mean they're removable too so its okay to have in certain scenarios
>>
Last time I spoke to /o/, she said they were alright. Better than bed covers.
>>
>>14889684
Having a bed cover means, "I don't actually use this expensive toy truck, and am tired of cleaning dirty leaves from the back."
>>
>>14889655
They are useful and serve their purpose, however people don't use them because
>grandpa truck
But those people don't use a truck for anything besides commuting and still put tow mirrors

I like 'em. They look good, they protect cargo as well as the truck itself, and for most private users they're completely adequate most of the time. For the one occasion a year when you actually need upwards clearance you can still unmount them with one other person in a matter of minutes.
>>
Better than a stupid bed cover, at least you can still haul some shit in the back with a camper top.
>>
>>14889798

bed covers are fucking awful, they're ugly and make the bed barely more useful than a backseat

>>
>>14889805
My dads truck cane with one, it is nearly useless and its still heavy as fuck for when you're trying to take it off
>>
>>14889714
Eh, it depends. I know my grandpa had one, and he used the shit out of his truck
Then again he got the cover for free because it was laying on the side of the road

I miss mine. I keep losing shit to aerodynamics and shit. They are also removable with two people.
>>
>>14889821
Wait, I mistook bed cover with bed liner. I'm a dumbass
>>
>>14889814
No, what you just posted is called a truck camper
>>
>>14889814
There's a difference between a camper top and a truck camper. Camper top or camper shell is a common alternative term for bed shell or topper.

Why not just buy a van?

>>14889681
But a van would cover all of those conditions, AND be more secure, AND have more room in it.

>>14889822

BUY A FUCKING VAN THEN, YOU POOR FUCK.
>>
they look like shit but old men seem to like them

It's like having a van, but far less useful.

We get it.

(you) like vans.
>>
>>14889862
>why not buy a van?
Because if you want to load something too long/wide/tall for the back of your van, you're fucked.
Also people will assume you touch little kids in the bathing suit area

really like mine but its off right now waiting on a roll of topper foam for the bedrails.

AND be completely useless for things like hauling firewood, or if you need to carry an extra tall object

Yeah, but vans don't come with beds.

What if you want to drive somewhere with 5 or 6 people + cargo + a trailer? You can of course get a van with more than 2 or 3 seats, sure, but then you won't have that much cargo space. Just get over it, some people don't want vans because they don't fit their requirements.

>a van would cover all those conditions
Really? Can you take the roof off a van and carry something that doesn't fit in the back? >more secure
how is it more secure than a lockable topper?
>more room
depends on the van

>poor fuck
since when are vans more expensive than trucks?

I can understand why people like them I guess, especially if you want the flexibility of both an open bed when you need it or secured because they are removable.
Personally speaking I wouldn't put one on my truck because most of the time I have a fuel cell back there, and big heavy shit gets loaded with heavy equipment all the time. Pretty much the same reason a van would be useless to me as well.

This post makes me curious.
Did your parents have any kids that lived?
>>
>>14890054
bought it like that. all dealer options installed by original owner from whom the truck was bought.
>>
Given that Dodge managed to fit storage bins into the bedsides on their trucks, I'm kinda surprised no one has come up with a topper that can fold down and tuck into the bedsides.

Best of both worlds- it'd follow the many soft or retractable bed covers that are already available.

I have one on order for my truck. a leer 100XL with Thule roof racks. for camping/skiing/mountain biking it makes more sense.

>>14889714
you do know the covers open, right? and you can fit things underneath them?

I just put mine back on after having it off for a few months. Makes it look cleaner imo and it makes the ride better (with the exception of being slightly more top-heavy)

If it does not weigh more than 400 lbs I won't believe you.

I had a 95 HP (when it was brand new in 1994 with a cracked head, 125, 45, 95, 175 psi, pinging under load while also running rich, cylibder 2 floods with coolant when sitting), 1300 lbs payload vehicle had no idea that 4 180 lbs workmen were in the back
