The SN95 is -the- compromise mustang. The whole car was a last minute cheaply thrown together rebuild of the fox platform in order to try and get a RWD mustang to market in the early 90's because ford had been planning for years to go with a probe-derived FWD platform, consumer backlash to that idea forced them to change plans.
The whole car is essentially an updated fox-body mustang with 90's ford "everything is fucking ovals" styling, some handling and stiffness improvements, and that's it. The car feels like it was slapped together because it was. They gradually got better over time and the new-edge updates made them kind of decent but still, it is what it is. It will never be the "greatest" mustang because it wasn't designed to be. It allowed for the other generations of mustang to exist because if it wasn't for the SN-95 we would have FWD sad-boxes instead, but the rush job to put it to market really shows.
source: I daily drove a 1999 v6 5-spd for a decade. It was actually fine, but you're constantly aware that you're driving a mid 90's styled car using an engine and transmission from the 80's built on top of a frame and suspension setup from the late 70's.
