Hey /o/, I'm looking to get a jeep for off-roading and daily commuting, with a hard top, that's not going to shit out on the first set of rocks I hit. Budget is about $10,000. What would you recommend?

Daily a jeep is gonna suck, maybe go Outback for a commuter
>>
>>14884349
How do these handle at highway speeds?
>>
>>14884419
imagine a focus with a lift kit.

Like an S-class.

Fuck off and let that meme die.
>>14884349
Believe it or not, $10,000 is not enough for a good JK. It will get you in a TJ, but honestly they are overpriced.

Shut up and buy a civic for <5k and a jeep with the remainder.

I (occasionally) dd my 6-speed JK and it's fine. I've gone 30k miles since Jan '14 and I haven't been bothered by it even though I only like tiny cars (except the speakers suck ass). I even get 22-24 mpg in town.

Bullshit on the 20mpg unless you got the 4cyl, in which case, your idea of offloading is probably a grade 4 road.

Dailying a real off-road wrangler is gonna suck. So accept 15mpg or less, or just get a Subaru or something

I have the 3.6 Pentastar V6... JKs don't even come with 4-cylinders.

Pic related, I once averaged 28.9 mpg over 58 miles, but I was really trying hard to maximize mpg. 21-23 is normal off of the highway, 18 on the highway.

Confirmed for arm chair offroader. A 4 cylinder TJ will do the same thing as a 6 cylinder off road.

This guy gets it, Buy a $2500 Cherokee, mod it for another $2500, and buy something else to daily.

>>yfw you try and daily a lifted jeep

nigga

On freeways with lots of slow-moving trucks, you can often coast behind them at ~45-50 mph. Once you get to speed, you can achieve like 35 mpg in sixth gear.

I'm also shopping to get a Jeep too, albeit a new Rubicon. Been driving an '13 Outback with 100k miles on it and it renewed my love for recreational light off-roading from when I was younger.

For JK Unlimited owners here, how do you like your car as a daily driver? Would love to hear comments from (mostly even)stock and modified owners.

you will be miserable in a lifted tj, since that is what you are going to get for 10k. buy an xj, and mod it for 5k, and spend the rest on a better dd if u really want on off roader

A 4runner
Or rav4
Or xterra
All better than any heep

Cherokee.

And equally as junk as a wrangler.
>>
>>14891913
may be equally as junk but for half the price and twice the room.

I daily a 6 speed 16' JK stock with 33inch wheels. (Although my commute is <1km) I occasionally drive it 200km to/from my farm and it's not bad.

I drive an '05 TJ sport, I bought it for 10K CAD. Jeeps are very overpriced. There are things I like, they're fun, look cool, great off-road. Nice vehicle for casual hunting. That being said, if you're off-roading, you need somebody with you that can recover you if you can't do it yourself. Wheelin' alone is really risky. So if you don't have people to off-road with, re-consider what you want. Winches only get you so far. I find mine tremendously uncomfortable for daily driving. You feel every little rock on the road. Build quality is shit, prepare for lots of rust. Reliability is decent in my experience, my water pump started leaking real bad at 160K but that was an easy cheap fix. Jeeps are very simple to maintain. Changing your own oil is extremely simple. Lots of room to work under the hood. Driving is tiresome sometimes, aside from discomfort, Jeeps are slow. On the highway passing can be a pain, especially if you're loaded up with people/gear. Be prepared to gas up lots, mine can barely get from Edmonton to Calgary sometimes. Definitely go for a manual transmission. In alberta at least automatic jeeps are stupid expensive. I only learned to drive stick so that I could buy a jeep. That being said i'm selling mine and buying a WRX. Wasn't the right car for me, I don't off-road enough. The other thing with jeeps, be prepared to shell out cash for all kinds of crap, nice tires (I have duratracs, very nice) , brush guard (for deer and trees and shit), winch, etc. They're good vehicles, but it's a personal taste thing I think.
