Please tell me everything about 159 so i drop the stupid idea of buying an alfa.
>>
Electronics, timing chain stretching..

It's a beautiful car if you're willing to spend money on maintaining it.
>>
Most alfas are really nice cars but huge maintenance money pits
>>
>>14879755
It's not perfect, you'll have to throw some money at it, but it's not even that bad, And it's a great car
>>
>>14879755
no turning circle. not even joking its got a turn and abit of lock., like maybe a whole 1/5ths.
>>
hnnnnnng I wanted one of those but bought a bmw 530xd instead, I guess my rational side of brain convinced me for this.
The 159 is hands down the most beautiful 'common' car on the road.

Please do it for the benefit of everybody else on the road. People will be able to look at nice things instead of boring cars. Also, I'm currently thinking about trading my Twingo in for either a Lancia Ypsilon, an Alfa Mito or a Giulietta.
S--should I do it?

I also want a Giulietta. There is such nice sport-package ("QV-line" before facelift) availible which just looks awesome.
>>
As an Alfag, I can tell you that you WILL spend money on it if its more than 6 years old/60k+ miles. HOWEVER. If you're a handy man and can do stuff to your own car, there are specialist alfa parts dealers such as Autolusso and Alfaworkshop that can supply parts. I own a GT, its good fun but droplinks & clutch need doing now at 89k miles.

But yeah, get it. It's a fantastic brand. EVERYONE will let you out at a junction without fail.

Had a 2000 156 2.4jtd (10v). Above my current E39 M5 in being a nice place to sit in. It's just amazing.
Test drove the 20v jtd and was thoroughly disappointed in comparison.

And now I can't get another 10v jtd, because of environment laws. Fuck.

The ypsilon in one of my alltime favourite cars. If you find one with the bigger twin air make sure to test drive it. It's a fun engine.

HHHHNNNNNGGGG

I was chatting to my mechanic, an Alfa specialist and he wasn't too enthusiastic about the reliability of the 159.
However, he did say most of the things that go wrong aren't crucial and pretty easy to do yourself if you're half way competent.

>>14884201

Only ugly fat Belgian women drive a Lancia Ypsilon around the parts where I live. Get the Giulietta or MiTo.

I always preferred the Brera.
I wasn't too keen on the rear at first but it has grown on me
>>
>>14890827
For some reason I really prefer the 159's proportions.

The Brera has that ass though.
>>
>>14882031
god I hate the stormtrooper restyle these got, the fascia does not flow with the rest of the vehicle it looks like a subaru forester and an evo x had an overweight child.

>>
>>14890827
The brera is a porno car but weights too much and except for diesels and the 1750 tbi (the first version) the GM petrol engines are a joke.

The Giulietta is better for engine choice, literally every engine is great (even the entry level turbocharged on petrol) and weight less than the Brera.

Honestly the heart, for me, would suggest a Brera 1750 tbi but if I follow the reason I'd end up buying a Giulietta 1.4 170 hp or an used QV.

And then I'd put a Supersprint exhaust on the thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An_SNUu2bxw

Alfas, like most European cars, are a love / hate relationship. You love driving them, but hate owning them. It's like dating a musician or a nympho. It's all fun and exciting until dawn comes.

Why not a Punto, bro?
Exactly the same engines and the same car underneath.
>>
>>14895186
That's not true anon
>>
God I want a 159.

>tfw no 2.4 JTDM Q4 Sportwagon
>>
>>14895213
It is.
The only engine that is available on the Mito that isn't nowadays on the Punto is the 1.4 multiair.
>>
>>14895224
Apart from the engine and a a few buttons they are completely different.
>>
>>14895231
Same chassis, yet the Punto actually handles better than the Mito, contrary to popular belief.
But again, it's a matter of taste. I prefer the look of the Punto (had a choice between both).

Regarding the Giulietta, I love the shit out of that car.

It's like you don't even 80s style.

I'm considering buying a 156 facelift though, MUCH cheaper and has the same face

Do it anon.
I have a face lift 156 and it still looks as fresh as anything else on the road. Probably due to the fact it's a De Silva (All modern VAG products) design breathed on by Giugiaro.
>>
>>14895746
I really might, they're gorgeous cars and I'm seeing 2.4JTDs for like £900, while a 159 2.4JTDM starts at £2500
>>
>>14895758
Stay away from the 2.4 units as they're all due major clutch work at this point in time and it's very expensive.
Try and find a 2.0JTS with service history instead, since a diesel in an Alfa is sacrilegious anyway.
>>
>>14895770
I'm a pizza boy mate, I need my diesel em pee gees

How are the 1.9 units? Lethargic?
>>
>>14895775
People on the forums that have the 1.9 praise it for it's surprising get up and go.
Also the kind of driving you do as a pizza boy will only lead to problems with the Alfa diesels. The EGR system is prone to clogging with start stop driving. Check out the 1.8 and 1.6 petrol versions in this case since they're more suited to stop start and wont drink fuel like the 2.0.
>>
>>14895783
Fair enough, I'll look into it. I'm currently driving a MG ZS 1.8 which surprised the fuck out of me with how good it is on fuel. I'm getting 35+MPGs doing pizza deliveries, it's incredible. My old 320D got about the same or slightly less.
>>
>>14895789
One more note, if you're looking at them, look for rust under the spare tire and at the front of the sills, basically the only two points known to rust and a specialist garage will do the necessary welding no problem for you if it is corroded.
>>
>>14895795
I've got a MIG unit in the shed and I put the floor back into my 320, if I do get a rusty one I'll fill in the holes myself
>>
>>14895802
Sorted then mate, happy hunting.
>>
>>14895775
There's no FCA diesel unit that is lethargic.
