Being 20 with no vehicle, and a recently new licenses, I stumble on this car today.

'93, manual transmission, 2 door metro, 130,000~ miles

Body damage, only the rust behind the wheel in the picture.

asking $2000, worth it?

Since I made this thread, feel free to talk about your first car post pictures and thoughts.

My first car was a 98 Civic Ex, Manual with 140.000 miles for 2500$.

This looks like a pretty decent deal. Try to deal it down? Or find a Civic/Miata/Corolla in the same price range.
(also depends on area)

Just my opinion tho.

My first car. £600 and it somehow ran for two years. 176,000 miles when it died.

This is how it died. We fucked around with it and drove it into the ground. Rip in peace.

First one I bought is my 92 crown vic LX. 129k miles when I bought it for 800 bucks.

You can do better. I got pic related, a 98 Legacy GT wagon with a 5 speed manuel, for $1800. Of course it did need some work when I first got it, but it's 9000 times better than a metro.

"my" first car is my dad's 97 F-250
which is alright and all, but I want my own ya know?

I just ran into this thing today on craigslist, he's only asking 750 for it, but the top has a hole and it needs to be smogged/renewed

It doesn't have A/C but neither does my truck and at least its convertible.
should I go for it?
also I haven't learned manual, but for 750 i'm willing to learn in this thing
metro owner here
the 3 cylinder engine is great because its a very reliable engine if taken care of and of course the milage (worst i got was 44mpg best ive gotten was 64mpg) but its only got 55HP so its pretty slow but not as bad as you'd think. these cars can go just fine on highways but dont try to pass anyone. parts are also plentiful and dirt cheap. one thing to check if you want to buy this car is the frame horns, they've been known to rust out badly, as for the price, $2000 is way too much for a metro in that condition, dont pay anymore than $1200 for a metro unless its in great condition

You having a laugh? The Legacy is a commuter car
>>
Bought a 93 Civic LX 5 spd from a work friend for $400. Speedometer doesn't work, it leaks a bit of oil from a seal I've yet to change, and it needed a clutch.

Whenever gas prices spike, so do the selling prices of Geo Metros. Right now, gas is cheap...

Despite their punchline status, they are pretty good cars. My friend had his for 20 years and sold it with over 300k miles. Still ran great.

And a metro isn't a commuter car? That's literally its main purpose, getting fantastic empeegees. Not to mention the Legacy has 3 times more horsepower than the metro. It's much more comfy, more practical, actually has some options, and is still plenty fun to drive. Maybe it's a little on the heavy side but it's still lighter than most new cars. Not everything has to be full on racekar.

In having a tough time choosing between two different listings on craigslist.

What do you guys think?
My friend says that the 96 price is stupid high.
Why do people think they can get their time worked on the car back through its price?
Extras don't change the cars worth exponentially.

This has been difficult.
Is kbb price full of shit? No one follows it in my area at all. Everything costs way more.
I have been looking through many types of cars around 3k and just decided to get a vw golf.
Shit sucks.

I'm also looking at getting a Metro, though a 98. It looks almost new with less than 100k miles. The dealership is asking for $3k, but I'd feel like an idiot paying that much. I noticed their entire inventory seems overpriced, and though they mention on their website that the listed prices are 'cash no haggle prices', is it still possible they're expecting to haggle given the high prices?

What was your total cost?

If they bought it at auction they paid less than $1,000. If it was a trade-in they paid less than $750. You do the math.
