Why do people say top speed doesn't matter?
Top speed is fun as fuck. Have you ever went to a road in the country and cruised at 200mph+ for 10-20 minutes? Shit is so fun it's retarded.

>looking at how much ground you covered
>realizing you burned half a tank of gas in 15 minutes
>going so fast cops you don't even know if cops are following you
>the adrenaline feel of going 200mph
>that moment when your car just doesn't have any pull and you feel your car no longer accelerating once you hit 214mph
>going past cars at stupid speeds
>the sound of the wind at 200mph

I would LOVE to have a car that could comfortably cruise at 250mph and have enough downforce to where it doesn't need a perfect road to stay afloat at those speeds.

You didn't go that fast.

You've never been near 200 MPH on a public road.
>>
>>14864246
You'll never find a road clear enough to get up to that speed and maintain it.

So, you've never gone that fast.
>>
>200 mph

Look mate, on certain sections of the Autobahn it is possible to go 220 kmh on a good day where few other people are on the road. 320? Pushing it.

Where do you live that you have a good enough roads (no pot holes/big ass cracks) and clear enough (minimum traffic) you can do 200 mph for at-least 10 minutes?

The fastest I've gone is 130 mph and that was for 2 minutes, maybe less. It's fun going fast once or twice but that's it. It's too dangerous to be fun IMO. Acceleration on the other hand, is much better. Not only for fun but also for practical every day driving. It's fun pressing on the gas and sinking into your seat as you whip around the slow ass junkers. Or accelerating to make it to the open space in the lane you want to merge into; this is the kinda thing that makes acceleration more practical than top speed.

>going so fast cops you don't even know if cops are following you
You might be fast, but their radio and helicopter is faster--they'll also probably beat your ass if they catch you.
>>
>>14864246
>200 mph

You would have to have a road at least 33 miles long to do ten minutes worth of 200 mph, a straight road at that, with zero traffic.
Even in the remote southwest US, you'll run into a few cars on those long desolate roads.
especially covering 33 miles.

The only road you can go 200mph+ for 10-20 minutes is that one in Nevada
>>
Roads here are hilly and not very well maintained, at the bottom of every small hill there are multiple gouges where people destroyed their bumper/exhaust. Anything over 50 is impossible without offroad modifications and a few drinks.

Top speed doesn't matter because you rarely get a chance to utilize it to it's full extent. (which just so happens to be when you cannot fully utilize any other part of your car)
Acceleration to top speed is what counts.
It's about the journey, not the destination.
>>
>>14864246
>a road in the country and cruised at 200mph+

No, and you absolutely did not either.

You dont even know what "country" is dumb ass... youd be hard pressed to hit 100 on a real country road.

200 MPH, provided you even had a capable car(which you and 99% of /o/ dont), would need a very long flat surface that only a highway would provide.

And, youd need no traffic and a perfect road with no defects.

Depends on the car but

Fury: 147.27 GPS Speedo indicated (pretty much top speed with my current gearing, maybe 2 mph low).
Jag: 139 indicated, more like 132.
Grand Am: 120+ (buried Speedo)
Uncles 572 BBC Twin Charged T/A: 189 via speed gun at the Brickyard. It's a whole new experience, even compared with...
Yamaha R1: 193 on the digital Speedo. This was done on a brand new stretch of highway that was unopened as of that evening.

Get out, eurocuck. Only Americans have the luxury of driving stupid fast because we have straight roads and aren't overpopulated in the countryside. Maybe the Russians can drive fast too, except they are poor former commies that can't afford to separate their sidewalks from their roads.

I poster a roundabout version because I was thinking about the "country roads" near where my girlfriend lived, in a rural suburb. I could have conceivably hit 200 on them in the right car but I would have hit a roundabout. The only difference would have been the side of the road and that I'd have launched into some "townhouse" living room instead of a car park

Thinking about hitting 200 on my Appalachian country roads where we live is laughable. Maybe you live in Kansas but I still can't imagine your asphault is smooth enough for double century driving.

Stop pretending your speedometer reads mph and not kmh.

For that matter, stop pretending you even drive.
>>
>>14864246
>implying you've been close to 200mph on a public road for any length of time

Listen, kid. I have a slightly modified literbike, it tops out at around 180mph but it will get there faster than anything you've ever driven. I have only been past 170mph on it once, and the road stripes and street lights were flying by so fast it was downright scary, I backed off after spending no more than a few seconds above 170mph and haven't done it since. You have no time to react to any of the million dumb shit things that can happen on a public road at that kind of speed, from animals crossing to a piece of debris flying over the dividing wall of the highway, it's stupid. going 200mph, it's not something I'd even dream of doing on the road, even if I had a car or bike that could do it.
>>
i remember reading one story of a McLaren F1 owner (I think it was Thomas Bscher) who would use the car for long commutes on the Autobahn. When he took his car in for service, the techs checked the data logger and estimated that he was averaging 200+mph at some points.

I think you accidentally included another zero. Unless you're rich, you won't have a car that goes anywhere near that. And certainly not fast enough, which does matter.

And if you do go that fast, you'll never cruise for anywhere near a minute even. So, I don't know where you're cruising...

Top speed doesn't matter for normal cars because you're not going to get there fast enough. And for more situations you won't have to go over 100 MPH. I'd say at most people need to hit about 80 MPH, in my opinion.

What matters is the acceleration. If you car only goes 100, but does it very fast, it's SIGNIFICANTLY better than a car that goes 200, but does it like a snail, which obviously doesn't exist, but you get the idea.

Top speed is only as useful as how fast you get there.

I maxed out my 02 WRX at 137mph on a long open highway stretch for about two seconds before realizing I was catching up to traffic a lot faster than I thought I would. I then realized that slowing down without destroying my brakes wasn't going to happen on its own. Going that fast is scary

About 185 MPH in a 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 if I recall correctly as this was a few years ago. Second closest would be around 138 MPH in a 2015 Tesla Model S P85D.

Plenty of others, but weren't anywhere close and not worth mentioning.
