What's everyone's opinion on a v6 mustang?
I can't afford the best but I want something that can go fast and cut through lanes. There are some good used 2011-2013 v6 mustangs that I have found for less than $15k which seem good and I can afford but idk if I will be satisfied.

I used to drive a 2009 Chevy cobalt until it was totaled in the Texas hailstorm.

Will I see an increase in performance going from a cobalt to a mustang?

Also should I shoot for a v6 premium?
>>

>go fast and cut through lanes
Why are you looking at a mustang then?

I can't tell you about mustangs. But I drive a 2015 V6 charger. I prefer it over the V8 because it's a DD, and 300 hp is more than enough when I want to give it the beans. Pretty much anyone on here who's going to give you shit on getting good the V6 are basement dwellers who drive $1 shit boxes or bus riders. If you want it, go for it man. You don't "need" a V8 to be happy withour the car
>>
>>14857853
Are you saying a mustang is incapable of performing such task?
>>
>>14857816
>want something that can go fast and cut through lanes

A Mustang does neither of those. Buy a motorbike.
>>
>>14857903
V6 maybe
>>
>>14857816
You need a V8, ignore this >>14857855 cuck.

The 3.7 is a really good engine, you'll just have to live through never ending ridicule for not getting the V8.
>>
>>14857855
>I couldn't afford a V8
>N-no you're all poor

OP you'll regret it and that car is the laughing stock of automotive world, get a V8 or don't bother.

>>14857816
Get an ecoboost, it'll be faster than the v6 with minor mods, not to mention lighter.
>>
>>14859109
if OP wanted a 2015-6 ecoboost he wouldnt be looking at a 2011-13 v6 you retard. be relevant to the thread.
>>14857816
also OP yes the v8 is worth it maybe look at an older GT
BUT .. V6 mustangs are 300 hp RWD for the price of a Civic Si: its excellent value. Even a new one starts at 23k. That's base accord money
>>
Why not mod the v4 with turbo and get better performance than the v6?

V8 > V4 > V6
>>
>>14859166
Nigga this ain't a Harley, there is not V4.
>>
>>14857816
>What's everyone's opinion on a v6 mustang?
It's almost always a regrettable purchase.

>I can't afford the best
Clearly.

>I want something that can go fast and cut through lanes
V6 pony cars are reasonably quick, but not fast. Probably too large a car to easily "cut through lanes."

>v6 mustangs that I have found for less than $15k which seem good
No. There are better options for $15k. For example, what I drive.

>Used to drive a 2009 Chevy cobalt
>Will I see an increase in performance?
Well... Yeah. Doesn't mean that you should get a V6 Mustang though.

>Also should I shoot for a v6 premium?
Shoot for something you won't regret after a year of ownership.
>>
>>14857816
There's tons of V8 cars you can get for 15k. You'd have to settle for an older car without the modern niceties, but if you're getting a pony car you aren't buying it for the interior.

15k could easily land you a 3v or 4v Mustang, and LS1 Camaro, a GTO, maybe even a first gen CTS-V.
>>
>>14857855
>Pretty much anyone on here who's going to give you shit on getting good the V6 are basement dwellers who drive $1 shit boxes or bus riders.
Except my car bone stock can beat a 4.6 'Stang no problem.
>>
>>14859204
Or a '99 Vette
>>
>>14859205
Beating a stock 2v mustang is not much worth bragging about, anon.
>>
>>14857816
$15k can get you a C5 Corvette
>>
>>14859226
Sure, but it certainly stands in contrast to what anon implied about V6 critics.
>>
Bonglander here.

I have enough income to finance either a 2.3 Ecoboost or a 5.0 Vee Ate down here, but the V8 would be a LOT more expensive to insure. Are the 4 cylinders any good or should I just keep buying used BMWs for my RWD thrills?
>>
OP, here is a general tip in all facets of life. Never settle. If you cannot afford a v8, do not settle for a v6. Get the best you can, and if you cannot, save up.
>>
>>14859261
No it really doesn't. Beating an outdated and slow car doesn't make your V6 fast. Sorry anon, it's a nice family car, but it will always live in the shadow of the V8 because it's inferior.
>>
>>14859270
Yep. Once you have your V6, then you have to start all over saving for a V8. Makes no sense.
>>
why not live the V12 life and get a XJS
>>
>>14859270
>>14859284

OP this is the truth.
>>
>>14859283
I think you're a bit mixed up. I don't own, and would never own a V6 Mustang.
>>
>>14857816
I used to drive a V6 Mustang and built it up myself. They're good cars.
If you're a girl, it's great, but if you're a guy, the downfall is you're going to constantly hear people saying "Oh, too bad it's not the V8"
So keep that in mind.
>>
>>14859299
Thought you were the other anon with the V6 charger.

Sorry senpai.
>>
>>14859309
All good. Was trying to point out before that not only am I not a busrider, but my stock ride can walk a 4.6 V8 'Stang. Can see how that would be confused as a V6 shill.
>>
>>14859267
They are with a tune
>>
>>14859328
What if I want to keep my warranty?
>>
>>14859330
Then they're okay, not much faster than a V6 Mustang
The whole point of the Ecoboost is getting a tune and a few supporting mods to push the motor close to 400bhp
>>
>>14859350
And sound like a fart-can Honda in the process
>>
>>14859359
>muffled turbo
>sound like a fart can honda
Are you dense?
>>
Do Americans seriously still make cars with stiff axes?
>>
>>14859372
Basically just trucks now but many people convert their cars to solid axles for drag racing because of the added durability and stability, plus the cost.
>>
>>14857855
Dude, did you actually drive a V8? I almost got a 2011-14 V6 mustang, I was damn close to it. But something convinced me at the last minute to just go for the V8. The second I turned the key and heard the exhaust I was sold. I didn't even drive a V6 to be honest, I just went out and got a 2014 V8 and never looked back. Even with the fun of 420 hp I'm already looking at ways to get more power. I would have regretted every second of owning a V6 if I had driven a V8 after buying one.
>>
>>14859523
Not him but I think V8 sound is disgusting, it's too vulgar.

I like a straight 6, 5, 10 or 12.

Fuck 4 though.
>>
>>14857816
>cut through lanes
sounds illegal
>>
>>14859109
V6 is lighter.
>>
>>14859109
An Ecoboost S550 is not lighter than the S197 V6.

Also the '11-'14 V6 track pack is faster than the Ecoboost too.

>>14859174
Harley's have a V-Twins you retard. 2cyls.
>>
>>14859270
100% agree. OP, take the bus in the meantime if you need to. Do not settle for V6 - you will regret it guaranteed
>>
>>14861146
It's also a rental spec car that doesn't have the option of getting any performance upgrades
>>
>>14857855
Charger guy here. 300 hp and over 30 mpg consistently with a comfortable and fun DD. For 11k less than the "hurrr v8" enjoy your shitbox, at least it's better than your shitposting :^)
>>
Be a man and get a V8.
>>
>>14861365
>he doesn't supercharge v6 mustangs to beat the v8 mustangs
>>
>>14861582
>spend all that money to make as much power as a naturally aspirated V8 with less reliability

Or just stick a supercharger onto a V8 Mustang
>>
>>14861365

>>14861161
Here again, you're missing the point that OP is looking at S197 V6, which does have an available Track Pack. And that the S197 V6 is faster than the Ecoboost.
>>
>>14861803
Or he could just get a V8 and actually be fast instead of just "faster than a..."
>>
>>14861823
I don't think you realize how much potential the 3.7L has.
>and actually be fast instead of just "faster than a..."
Faster than a GT-R is gud, right?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcuXLuUI8wg
>>
>>14861917
Yeah because if OP can't afford a V8 he can totally afford to make a V6 Mustang faster than a GTR
>>
>>14861977
kek this
>>
>>14861977
Who said anything about OP doing that? I'm just pointing out that the V6 has potential to be plenty fast and is lighter, faster and considerably cheaper than the Ecoboost that other guy recommended.
>>
>>14857816

I like the 3.7 V6 in the 2011-2014 Mustangs. It's really powerful and almost as fast as the outgoing V8. It's also significantly better on fuel. It's probably a lot of fun.
>>
>>14860368
This guy gets it.
>>
>>14862139
If it has potential to go to the moon it doesn't matter because OP isn't doing that. He should just allocate his shekels better to begin with, if he likes muscle cars/pony cars 15k is a solid budget to get something with a V8 instead of settling for something and rationalizing it because "it has potential!"
>>
>>14860368
Faggot. The rumble and roar of a good v8 is glorious.

>>14857816
My buddy has one. It's alright. Solid car, and he drives it fairly well, unlike most mustang owners.
>>
>>14857816

I previously owned a 3.7. I thought it was great, it isn't torque-y, but theres a good RPM range, and if you drop 130 USD and aren't retarded, I'd recommend putting in 3.55 gears, it makes a world of difference from the 2.92(??) that come stock. Buuuut if you're asking for /o/'s opinion, you probably aren't going to do anything to it.

Regardless, its a huge jump from a Cobalt. Also, get the manual, I test drove an auto for the lols and ho lee fuk it was terrible. Absolutely terrible. So terrible. That auto was the laziest fucking thing in the world.

Also, I had gone to the local grudge drags and raced a 4th gen T/A, and I heard a bunch of people yelling "Mustang's gonna get KILLLLED" and the like, but that car never lost. With the 3.55 gears though. You can take advantage of the range of power with those. But you probably won't...
