Sorta agree on this, they had those round tail lights for years, and now we have this "Euro styling" bullshit they're pulling off.

they fucking ruined it with the c7

I only respect the performance models. By that, I mean the Z06 and the ZR1.

The vast majority of Corvettes on the road are driven by boomers equipped with an automatic.

base c6 is slower than a civic around the nurburgring

>implying boomers actually drive fast

There's a reason why the Corvette is the epitome of the mid-life crisis car. Every time I see a C7 (or the C6 when it was new), it's either driven by some rich foreign kid, or some boomer. At least with the Z06, you know that guy didn't just buy it it because he wanted a regular sports car. No, he wanted something actually fast.

I'd much rather buy a snek then a vette, given the money.
>>
>>14855016

Civic Type Rs don't make up most of average performance cars on the road so that's fine.

the GS is objectively the best c6, its a z06 with a more reliable engine

I assume you are talking about the LS7s valve dropping issues it had in early C6 Z06 models? didn't they fix that in 2009 or later in Z06 models in general? (granted i know even with the issues fixed the LS3 is still more reliable/durable which is why i think even to this day its still being used in dunnydoors)
>>
>>14855078
they fixed it starting february 2009 iirc

if I ever buy a C6Z I will probably keep it forever and not drive it often. should hold its value much better than a GS

Did they release some kind of statement saying so or what happened exactly? (i-e how do people know this) another guy told me they fixed it around that time as well.

They used the LS7 in the Camaro Z28 and i know they wouldn't have done that if the engine was still plagued with problems.
>>
>>14855129
one of their head suppliers just didn't measure correctly or something. it only affected a small percentage of the engines but the effects are obviously catastrophic if left unchecked if the head is one of the incorrect ones.

Feb '11 according to this copypaste on a corvette forum.

LS7 Valve guide issue summary:
• Affects a small, number of '08, 09 ’10 and ’11 Z06’s
• GM discovered the condition through our cylinder head warranty data involving a very small percentage of our vehicles.
• Through inspection of returned heads, it was determined that a machining error in the valve guide had occurred at our head supplier.
• The quality issue has been contained as of Feb 2011 with 100% inspection of all heads.
• The most common customer complaint has been excessive valve train noise.
However if the condition is not addressed, it could result in engine failure. To date, where this condition has been observed, it has occurred early in the vehicle life.
What customers need to know: They should drive and enjoy their vehicles without fear. If their car demonstrates this condition, they are likely to hear unusual valvetrain noise first. If you have a concern regarding this issue on your personal vehicle feel free to contact me through private message on this forum and we will work to assist in resolving your concern. Feel free to contact me through [email protected] please put attention Evan in the subject. As always, vehicles that have modifications to the powertrain or the calibrations, are no longer covered by GM's warranty.

Sincerely,
Evan, Chevrolet Customer Service

I don't see why lap times at the burger King ring matter for a street car. On a track, the vast majority of the population don't have the ability to push a base vette to the limits anyways, much less a higher spec model. You can't possibly tell me that all of the z06 drivers are also formula 1 drivers just because they decided to buy a higher end model.

>>14855033

So a base vette is a turd, but a Z06 is actually fast? Apparently you haven't driven either. At least with the c6, the difference really isn't that huge, and it doesn't really take much to get an ls3 to ls7 power numbers with mods.

Problem with the viper is that since they were more limited, the prices tend to be higher for the same performance. C6s are dipping well into the 20s now, and there is a ton of aftermarket to upgrade any 'deficiencies' you may think the car has. Not that you're really going to be using it to its full potential anyways...

>>
>>14855104
IMO, that's retarded. If you're collecting cars and not driving them because you're worried about value, regular production vettes aren't really a great market to invest in. Maybe a 427 convertible, a zr1 or something, but they made a lot of z06s so unless you plan to never drive it and hold onto it forever, you're not really going to make any notable money on t.

>>14855065

Ditto here, wish I would've got a GS instead of a z51. The widebody alone is worth it for the wide tires.

>>
>>14855865
I wouldn't be buying it to make a profit. Holding its value better would just be a nice bonus to having the car I actually want. Either way I'd have a GS sitting in a garage or a Z06 sitting in a garage. I'd much rather have the Z06. I wouldn't be putting many miles on either one.

Great, another garage queen...

If you're not going to drive it anyways, why not just save yourself the trouble and buy a model car instead.

I get not driving some crazy million dollar exotic everyday, but not driving something as common as a corvette is dumb. Maybe I'm biased from DD'ing a c6, but they're just not that special to not enjoy it as possible.

Not everyone wants to commute in a shit box everyday. I only need space for 1 or 2 people, and it has plenty of cargo space if you need to pick up groceries on the way home or something. Also gets 30 mpg highway for anyone that cares about that kind of thing.
>>
>>14856144
Conversely, I don't see why you wouldnt put a lot of miles on it and would just let it sit in your garage. It's not a 1 of 5 Pagani, it's a common, mass produced Chevy. Given a few generations, the value is going to go to crap anyways (see current c4 and c5 prices), so you may as well drive it and enjoy it as much as you can.
>>
>>14856515
oh that's pretty good. the Z06 gets less than 20 according to fuelly though. the Z06 would also be a much worse daily driver with its harder suspension.

>>14856628
I'm not trying to preserve its value. If I had an infinite supply of free C6Zs I would still not daily drive it. My point is, considering I would not have an infinite supply and am not interested in daily driving a corvette, why would I buy a Grand Sport over a Z06 when they are going to sit in the garage 99% of the time either way?
>>
>>14856628
And also, I don't even believe in "preserving" something like a 1 in 5 Pagani. If you truly think daily driving that Pagani is the best decision you can make for your life and you can afford it, then you should drive it. You have me completely misunderstood.

>>
>>14857709
shouldn't make too much of a difference what your first manual car is. corvette should be good and torquey which is always nice but you will not know the pleasure of redlining through 4 gears in a shitbox and still only going like 80 mph.

I Agree if i had a ZR1 the last thing id do is complain about the plastic bits here and there (although i think even ZR1s had at least leather dash) People who buy STIs EVOs and even Supras of the time didn't care about interior material and just wanted a nice cheap performance car.

>>14857702
I actually really like late model C4 interiors they were pretty driver focused. something we didn't see again until the C7.

I fucking love what Callaway did to the exterior of the C6s.

Big V8 with massive torque means it's actually really hard to stall.
Easy as fuck to learn on, but you risk getting used to that amount of torque and stalling anything that doesn't have a big V8 after that.
