Isn't that another anon's car? I notice the mismatched gold mesh wheels with black paint.

What the fuck? You gave up in less than a year. Jesus christ, AE86 people never stick with it. They get tossed around like whores.

at least the seats are the same

>AE86 people never stick with it.

Maybe because they are legitimately slow, old, over priced, noodle chassis having commuter cars that completely live off of muh jdm hype while having an aftermarket that is WAY better if you actually live in japan?
>>
I'm having a tough time finding anything in my area that I like.
My budget is $3000.

I was going to try for a civic but the theft rate for them around Seattle is super high.
I mean, I would get a detachable steering wheel, but yeah.
Shit sucks.

>slow
They're slowish in modern straight-line terms. 8ish seconds to 60 isn't horrific for a cheap 1980s car. About as fast or faster as anything else comparable like an MR2, MK2/MK3 NA Supra or Z31, except lighter and more responsive.

>old
They are simple as shit to maintain and bring back to serviceable condition.

>over priced
Collector's car. There's under 10k GTSs in the US. Probably closer to 6k left from the best estimate I've read. Is the DeLorean overpriced?

>noodle chassis
Guy had a cage in that thing. Noodle chassis is easy to fix and is already fixed on a good portion of these cars.

>aftermarket
If you exclusively used craigslist to source parts, then yeah, it would suck. Japs list enough of their shit on eBay, crooober and California is overflowing with an 86 aftermarket.

Anyway, not my business. Hope GTR guy doesn't let it rot.

I might have met the r33 guy at one of the gtrc thursday night meets like 4 years ago

Ken or something?

So they are as slow as other slow cars, check.

>They are simple as shit to maintain and bring back to serviceable condition.
This also means you are dealing with 30 years of whatever abuse the cars may have been through, it's a double edged sword that could easily turn one into a money pit that starts making the owner question the cars worth.

>Collector's car. There's under 10k GTSs in the US. Probably closer to 6k left from the best estimate I've read. Is the DeLorean overpriced?
No, but lets not try and compare the two cars fame, it's nothing alike. Literally everyone in the US knows about the Delorean, only jdm drift kids car about an old Corolla from an anime, regardless of how popular it is in japan. No matter what way you slice it the rice tax on these cars is absurd, one like OPs would probably be listed for 11k plus depending on where you are.

>Guy had a cage in that thing. Noodle chassis is easy to fix and is already fixed on a good portion of these cars.
Aftermarket can make the worst pile of trash good.

>If you exclusively used craigslist to source parts, then yeah, it would suck. Japs list enough of their shit on eBay, crooober and California is overflowing with an 86 aftermarket.
Still pales in comparison to tons of other choices in the same price range.

Hopefully GTR guy keeps it clean though, good looking car.

>So they are as slow as other slow cars, check.
Hey, it doesn't feel slow and is fast enough to get up to speeds that'll kill you (probably anything over 30 mph). I prefer it to higher powered modern cars I've been in as a daily, sporty driver. Sure, the Hyundai Sonata next to me pulls like a motherfucker in comparison, but fuck that soft, electric steering and video game car. Even the FRS feels more disconnected. I chose an AE86 over an FRS, 3000GT VR4, Z31, Z32 and an S60R.

>This also means you are dealing with 30 years of whatever abuse the cars may have been through
This is true, and part of the reason why >$6k asking prices can be worth it if you want this car specifically.

>No, but lets not try and compare the two cars fame, it's nothing alike. Literally everyone in the US knows about the Delorean, only jdm drift kids car about an old Corolla from an anime, regardless of how popular it is in japan. No matter what way you slice it the rice tax on these cars is absurd
Maybe the predominant people who know about it right now are anime drift kids, but I doubt many would seriously own one. Many owners I've met with one that isn't a shitfest are usually in their mid-30s to 50s and used them as track cars 15+ years ago. Now they're taking them to ToyotaFest and garaging them the rest of the time. A few still daily theirs.

I think the rice tax isn't absurd. There aren't that many left, and they're always in high demand. You can always resell for near the same amount, maybe more.

>Still pales in comparison to tons of other choices in the same price range.
In pure performance? Yeah. It's not gonna win any stoplight drags. Hit all the right points for me though. Wasn't even looking for one when I was shopping, but one popped up and it made more sense than any other 80s car, most of which suffer horribly from a lack of direct aftermarket.
>>
>>14837128

I absolutely love the car and it's easy to work on but it's the rust that ultimately kills you in the end.

>>14837259

I forgot his name, an Asian guy and he had a nitrous setup in the backseat too.

>>14837354
>>14837400

Yeah, they're slow, no doubt about it, specially uphill but it was never a quarter mile car anyway.

It's rediculously fun and with its suspension setup is perfect, it can outhandle cares decades ahead of it on corners without any bodyroll and understeer.

There are no electronic nanny bullshit, it's just pure driving, it's a toy, a fun toy.

I personally hate the FRS and it's electronic nannies, it's fanbase, and how heavy it is compared to the 86 but no other modern car comes close to the AE86.

But when I get one, I'm completely gutting it and adding RPF1s, and coils, lightweight drycell bettery, ect to get it as close to my AE86 as possible.

>people bitching about $5k for a decent AE86
>meanwhile they would pay $10k for a completely rotted out mustang fastback or mk1/mk2 ford escort or similar
