Anyone know if Impala 9c1's are good?

I'm looking into buying an Impala as a second car to start working on my Caprice this summer. I know the GM 3800 V6 is a damn good engine, but don't have any experience with this "High Value" 3900 V6. Anyone work on them or know anything about them?

That place has so many nice looking cop cars. If you do buy post the buying experience because I'm curious.

But the Impala compared to all the new v8 rwd police cars is more like "shitty value", it wasn't even a good alternative to the p71

I've already purchased from these guys, things went very well, but they don't like coming down on prices. I got a 2012 Caprice from them. Not the most recent photo i've since put tints on and removed the spotlight.
>>
>>14815166
Oh that's the one I want. Thought you might have been talking about an older 90's caprice. Yours have the v8 and what's wrong with it? I don't see why you'd want the Impala. They're the shitbox of the police industry.

Need something cheap and reliable. Nothing really wrong with it, I want to send the head unit and bcm to get reprogrammed, swap out the cheapo center console for a new one and remove the exhaust for a new catback.

Just looking for a sub $5,000 vehicle that I can keep as a second car. Don't know if I want to own a Crown Vic. I'm mostly looking at fleet owned car because they are well maintained. Done with buying sketchy cars off Craigslist.

I've got a 3900 Impala.

It's great, I average almost 30 mpg for my 40 mile freeway commute, and if I don't mind burning gas really bad, it's pretty dang fast for a car that doesn't pretend to be a sportscar..
>>
>>14815249
Should add, I'm at a 150,000 miles, it doesn't burn oil or anything and I've only done recommended maintenance.
>>
>>14815258
Nice, i know the 3800's burn some oil i've worked on plenty but the damn engines can survive a beating by the most neglectful drivers. How's the AFM on the 3900? On my Caprice it can get so annoying.

Ain't nothing wrong with a crown vic. The Impala will last through the summer but it's a fwd, v6, unibody just like everything else on the road.
>>
>>14815293
Main issue I have with the Crown Vic is the Cop Car look. Can't go anywhere without people confusing you for the 5-0. Gets annoying quick.

I own a newer 3.6 L impala (got it used) and i wonder if those are as reliable as the 3800 and 3900. (also wondering how much of a difference the 6-speed is to the 4-speed) never driven the older ones.
>>
ive got a 2003 impala with 250k miles. as a daily driver. got it for 7 years now as a hand me down from my navy dad.
>>

I haven't had any issues but areas vary. I don't worry about other people's thoughts on what they think they see.

>>14815326
Should be a pretty big difference.

I'm in Chicago, traffic is an issue. At first it was fun, but it gets to be too much.
>>
desu Im planning to get a 2015 Impala

is it worth the price or should I just get a honda civic ex or anything within price range?

New Impala's look good, GM is doing better lately. Though, I can't comment on the engines, they're all new.

>>14815353
Sup! 250k is impressive, most people throw away their cars after 100k these days, plenty still have a lot of life left in them.
>>
>>14815282
You'll never notice it kick in, at least if the radio isn't quiet, but if you're in 3 cyl mode, it hurts your throttle response. It's not bad, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 second.
>>
>>14815385
On the Caprice the exhaust has a noticeable drone. I'm sure throttle response sucks once you lose half your cylinders.
>>
>>14814978
I'm preferential to the 3.8l especially the super charged luxury buicks with them. Seen a couple broken 3.9l's that needed cams. Active fuel management for the fail.
>>
>>14814978
Drove a 2006 civilian Impala for a while and a couple of thing annoyed me. The car was a cruiser but the steering was very sensitive so a minor correction had an effect all out of proportion to the intent. The other annoying thing was that the seats were actually a bit behind the B pillar making you have to enter/exit around the pillar and I'm a manlet. Basically the B pillar was right there at your shoulder instead of further back like it is on most cars. Other than that it was a serviceable beater.

>>14815427
Lot of guys on the Caprice forum blame the lifters for the AFM issues. Been thinking of buying the delete kit for mine.
>>
>>14815368

hey man. yeah, im just draining out the last energy of my 03 impala. probably would junk it once it gives out and thinking of getting a used car for a daily driver after that. so estimeate would be the end of this year.
>>
>>14815657
You'd be surprised how long the old 3800 V6 lasts, if it starts running like shit, it'll run like shit forever and still won't die.
>>
>>14815348
I had a rental 2016 Impala LT with the V6. It had a nice amount of power and was decently fast. Interior wasn't bad either.
>>
>>14814978
all w-bodies are shit
>>
>>14814978
Is it possible to get an Impala in the UK? Would it be a good idea?
>>
>>14814978
SHIT BOX
>>
>>14818659
>taxes
>importing fees
>>
>>14818582
>>14818777
Why is it a shit box? You can call anything a shit box but you need a reasoning behind it.
>>14818659
Import cost would be too much, they aren't really special vehicles.
