Valentine One vs Escort 9500ix
>>
Why do people need this?
What freedom-less country would punish their citizens in such a way?
Do you live in a police state or something, OP?
>>
>>14812655
What country doesn't have speed limits?
>>
>>14812667
It's impolite to answer a question with another question, anon.
I'd ask if they don't teach basic etiquette in your police state but I guess it's easy to tell.

I have a $60 cobra radio shack RD/LD and it works great. Bought it over two years ago. No idea why people pay hundreds for these things.
>>
Do these shits really work?
How do they work?
What happens if a kind policeman sees that I have this thing installed?

He'll likely give you a harsher ticket.

Got a reckless driving citation for doing 80 mph in the right-er lane to the far left lane. 95% sure cop thought I was a faggot who didn't think he'd get caught because of my radar detector. Faggot ass fucking cop kept eyeing it. A lawyer is the next thing you should invest in after a radar detector. They do work. But if a cop puts his lights on, slow down before he can pace you.
>>
>buy expensive radar detector
>cops radar systems can detect them, and they will immediately follow you if you have one
>they'll switch to lidar
>you'll get a guaranteed court mandatory when you eventually get pulled over for speeding if you have one

They're gimmicks anyway. If you want to go fast, do fast enough that you can't get caught.
>>
>>14812461
V1, that way you know which fucking way they are.
>>
>>14813253
>do fast enough that you can't get caught.
literally not possible

if you have an extremely fast car at 3 am and your license plate is blocked, maybe. but the average retard on /o/ isn't capable of going fast enough to outrun the police.
>>
>>14812461

Snake oil.

Time to act like an adult OP and drive at a mature speed.
>>
>>14812717
>Do these shits really work?
Yes

>How do they work?
By detecting radar emitted by radar guns

>What happens if a kind policeman sees that I have this thing installed?
Wouldn't know, haven't Ben caught yet

I've been using a V1 for about 3 years now and it's paid for itself a couple times already. Here in Houston I'd imagine a LEO would be more likely to give you a ticket if they spot one in your car but otherwise they don't really seem to care.

Incidentally, I got a ticket by a LIDAR cop about a year ago as I was stopping by a friends place to pick up the power cable to the Valentine. Not that it would have helped in that case.

>>14813253
You're speaking a half truth there, cops don't just "switch" to LIDAR. Laser based systems have quite a few stipulations with using them; main ones being they can only be used while stationary and in clear weather.

A bigger countermeasure to detectors are POP techniques some cops like to use.

According to mythbusters they do.

>Its the cop thats an asshole

If you're often in a city with a lot of radar intersections the gps units that block false signals and warns about cameras are worth it.

>Police in the UK have literal quotas they have to meet and will give non-speeding cars speeding tickets to meet them
>can get ticketed for going 44 in a 40mph zone which creates no danger
>Basically every study shows that reducing speed limits 10mph below the 80th percentile speed doesn't reduce incidents by a meaningful amount.

Valentine 1 has a low profile option and I believe the Passport models have one as well.

I got pulled over for having one when I passed through Virginia (most anal state btw - in some states its legal, in other states illegal). It was nighttime. Cop pulled up right next on the highway (I wasn't paying attention), saw the radar's bright red lights on my dash through my 20% tints, and pulled me over. He grabbed my radar, wrote up its number on the ticket, gave it back. Other then that he was cool and I was cool back. Apologized, said I didn't know, he said don't worry about it. Didn't penalize me for my tickets, suspension, or exhaust which would have been more expensive.

Only $100 ticket.

V1

The 9500ix is a good detector, I still use mine in fact, but it is getting dated. The older M4 antenna isn't as sensitive so your detection range is poorer. The V1's antenna design is more sensitive, additionally Escort has the Redline which has an M3 antenna is and it is probably the most sensitive detector in the industry, generally beating out the V1 by a small margin.

The V1 has the arrows, good sensitivity, and they have that Android app too that adds additional functionality like GPS lockouts and frequency display, I think the iphone one is either done or in the works. Only downsides are it's less plug and play than the 9500ix and the increased sensitivity means increased falsing too though it's usually pretty easy to figure out which signals are false and which aren't, especially with the frequency display.

Unless you are getting a really good deal on the 9500ix then you would be better off getting a V1 or Redline.

>cops radar systems can detect them

No radar gun is capable of detecting a radar detector. They do usually have some kind of RFI indicator to indicate potential jamming or other general interference but they cannot detect radar detectors.

There are radar detector detectors but most cops don't use them. It's a waste of money for a departments to buy them when radar detectors are legal in 49 of 50 states. They might have one or two to periodically enforce radar detector bans in vehicles over a certain weight class but it's not likely every cop will have one in their car. Only time you might run into them a lot is in Virginia. Also the Escort Redline is immune to RDDs.

>they'll switch to lidar
LIDAR guns need to be aimed at the license plate or headlights and as such cannot be used while driving. Only radar can be used while moving because it doesn't need to be aimed so specifically, it just requires that you are matching the speed readout to the right target. When there are multiple targets radar units typically display the fastest one.

Also, LIDAR can be stopped if you have LIDAR jammers which are legal in most states though they tend to be very expensive however they are very effective. Don't confuse LIDAR jamming with radar jamming which is illegal on a federal level and is a felony.

the only places where radar detectors are illegal is virginia and washington dc
