Not if you take care of it and understand it.

I have a question about 2 peice rotors and bbks. I want 2 piece but nobody makes them anymore. So the next step are bbks. But i hear these slow down rx8 and arent usually designed for my car. Anyone have first hand experience on RACING bbks? Did it slow down acceleration? Do you actually brake faster?
>>
>>14810235
I would assume there are problems with it. But if you know how to fix them, and as long as the chassis isn't fucked, I'd say it would be a great starter platform for your own build.

Is this a good deal for this rx-8?

I hear a lot of cons for rotary engines, but what are the pros?
>>
>>14810239
>>14810271
Are the problems with RX8 actually happening if you keep killing the car and overrevving it for track/fun purposes? Or do they happen even if you just use it as a daily driver while occasionally making use of the power?

They happen if you treat it like a piston engine

Let it warm up and down, don't take it for 5 minute shop drives and mix up 2smoke oil with the fuel along with keeping the coils/sparks/oil serviced and they are fine.
>>
>>14815842
So it's not good for a daily driver? What's the point then?

Why can't I just keep it at low revs to drive to a local shop?

I made a diagram with the RX-Visions proportions and a horizontally mounted 16x, wondering what it'd look like and throwing some ideas in.

Christ, the engine bay is really is huge. The entire engine block can easily fit behind the entire wheel wells, let alone being well behind the front axle, with how far forward the front wheels are and just from being bigger than the FD in general.

Really makes me wonder what the car will actually look like. The patent they made with the turbo on top of a vertically mounted rotary would make for some pretty retarded proportions, I'd think.

That a moron like you doesn't own one

Revs up very quickly which is fun.
Smooth.
Sounds way better than an i4 or v6 assuming you don't have a fartcan exhaust.
Much simpler to work on with less to go wrong than a piston engine (though the thing that can go wrong, apex seals, can go wrong really really badly)
Much easier/cheaper to tune more power from than pretty much anything else.
The FD and RX8 both have one of the lowest centers of gravity of any car, I believe, which is largely attributed to the engine.

>No reciprocating parts mean no cyling loads on engine parts. No broken con-rods or valves.
> Fail-safe - even if one rotor goes pop you can still have half an engine running
> Seizure proof. Provided the bearings stay lubricated you cannot normally seize one, even if it boils dry.
> Simple. There's very little to actually go wrong with them. And 9/10 what does going wrong is in a very narrow band with very defined triggers.

No broken con-rods. No burned out valves. No cracked heads. It combined a lot of the benefits of turbine and piston engines, and some of the drawbacks of both. But it makes an excellent general aviation engine, especially with leaded petrol to keep the seals happy.

For cars. Rip it up and rev the shit out of it. It takes abuse like an Irish housewife. Beat on it and it keeps cooking.

Would rotor deactivation like chebby uses with their V8s help fuel economy significantly?
>>
>>14818458
Won't work with share center exhaust port, I don't think.

If you separate them, yeah probably. Rotaries are more fuel efficient at higher RPMs and suck at low RPM.
>>
>>14818498
actually nvm the shared center exhaust port probably isn't a big deal since the side of the rotor cuts it off. But even then I don't think it's sealed perfectly?
>>
>>14818507
>2 separate 1 rotor engines
>clutch inna middle
maybe that's why the new RX-7s hood is so long
>>
>14818523
You can have separate exhaust ports for each rotor in the middle, as per >>14817047

Even then, the headers loop back. You can put a valve in them, though.
>>
>>14817047
One of the more interesting things a few people have done on RX8club as an experiment is run negative split timing in the engine, and lean out the fuel mix to ridiculous levels.

Normally, the leading plug fires first, with the trailing coming after to clean up emissions, but what they've done is switch to firing the trailing first, then the leading.

What happens is even when running lean, you get a very rich mixture right at the rotor tip that'll ignite. Igniting that with the trailing plug, compresses the rest of the lean mixture in the chamber enough that itcan be ignited by the leading.

They were reportely getting over 30mpg out of an otherwise stock engine, for a few miles at least. The only reason they couldn't make it permanent was that the ECU fucking hated doing it and would quickly override their fuel settings because it thought it was running lean to the point of engine destruction.

As to why Mazda didn't do it from the factory. I dunno. Lol NOx or something?

Wouldn't think NOx would be that big an issue with such a large chamber area cooling and quenching the flame, but so it goes.
>>
"A redline a day keeps the doctor away", but how loud is the RX8 stock exhaust? I wouldn't want to sound like a ricecuck.
>>
>>14810235
If you're a shit mechanic any rotary is a bad first car.
