Dumb shit you used to think about cars

I'll start.

- I used to think that mods like emblems meant they were faster
- I used to think that the more exhaust pipes, the faster it was
- I used to think that hood scoops always meant turbo
>>
-Every car was 4WD
-Every car had at least 260hp
-Wide body kits, wings, altezza lights, fart cannons, spinners, hood scoops, roof scoops, neon lights, limo tints, scissor doors, crazy vinyls, lots of decals on econo shit boxes were cool.
>>
I used to think lambo doors on integras were sick. I used to think lambo doors on anything was sick. I used to think that if cars looked fast, it was because they had to be aerodynamic, because there were fast.
>>
>>14808094
I used to think turbos were like an extra cylinder or something, and that a "supercharger" was a dodge
>>
I believed a lot of 2F2F shit. Press the nitrous button and you go into warp speed.
>>
When I was pretty young there was this older kid in my village who had a 2stroke dirtbike. He'd talk about its powerband and when it was "on" it would make the bike much faster.

In my mind it was a huge coiled elastic band that gave the bike a boost.

>BMW was British Motorworks, believed this until I was 17
>Had nitro confused with Nitrous Oxide
>thought all nitro did was cool the engine down, allowing it to work even harder
>Thought every car in 2013 looked like a Ford Fusion

Dumbest thing I ever thought though was

>I'll never be interested in cars, all I need is a-to-b, and even then, I have a skateboard.

Like, ho-lee-fuck.
i had no idea.
>>
>>14808280
Mexico is part of North America.
>>
>>14808287
Oh, and
>All American cars are RWD, FWD is something that's unique to foreign cars

>>14808288
I think he means like BMW/Merc.
>>
>>14808287
Yep. I bought my first car and thought "I want to get my midlife crisis sports car out of the way while I'm young, I'd rather have a fast car now, no point in having one when I'm older"

And now car is life.
>>
>>14808292
I was nothing like that
>Got a truck because boys should like trucks and take their trucks to work
>ride in dad's car
>realize how much I hate being disconnected from the road
>trade vehicles with dad until I can buy my own car
here I am, looking for a second one.
NA miata or this 325i?
>>
I thought Lamborghini was Italian.
>>
>>14808296
I wanted a sports car for all the wrong reasons, I'll admit.

Go for a 330i if you're looking at e46
>>
>>14808315
They are? They're owned by the germans, but still headquartered in italy
>>
>>14808336
What's the difference?

to clarify, why should I go after a 330i instead of a 325i?
330's less common in manual in my area, more expensive, and have more miles, I was looking for something in the ~5k range.

As a kid I thought that disc wheels on trucks were hubcaps for spoked wheels. Blame pic related movie.
>>
When I was little I thought the pressure of the gas coming out of the exhaust moved the car, hence why cars with more exhaust were faster.
>>
I never thought any of this dumb shit because my father loved me and taught me everything about cars. The worst things I used to think are that American cars are great and German cars are unreliable.

I used to think fast cars were cool
now I feel its just ordinary for them
>>
Hondas were fast
Cars were like 100 dollars
Exotic cars being mass produced like normal cars
Manual was just moving the shifter and no clutch
All cars were RWD
Tires had inner tubes

Also I was afraid of all vans because I saw a burned out van while walking to the store. I thought that they would randomly explode if I got near one and I would avoid them at all costs. One time I almost got hit by a car because I crossed the street to avoid a parked van.
>>
When I was about 6 I jumped into the front drivers seat while waiting for my dad. While pretending to drive I just assumed that I had to shift gears and that the car was RWD. My mom had to explain to me that our Cavalier was FWD and automatic. I Don't think I had ever really been in any car except for that one, but maybe I had ridden in my brothers truck by that point which could explain why I thought that.
>>

Holy shit, whats going on!?
>>
>>14809877
>Tires had inner tubes
This. I had helped my grandfather change so many tires on his old farm trucks and trailers and they all had inner tubes. When I finally found out that cars don't use inner tubes anymore my mind was blown. Like.. how does it keep a seal so well that it can hold the same pressure for months? Amazing.
>>
>>14808271
Fuck me I used to think that too
>>
>>14808393

>>

>>

>>

Just a normal day in a country where people are actually courteous and know how to drive.
>>
I used to think Rotaries V8s and I6s were better than I4 for drag racing.

I used to think that AWD had more grip than RWD

I also didn't know the difference between grip handling and traction.

I used to think new cars are almost always better than old ones.

I thought Tesla was a cool company for making the roadster.
>>
>>14810876
No you retarded faggot.
>>
>>14810748
Nope, the rubber 'bead' around the inner edge of the tire just seats up tightly against the lip of the wheels and forms an air-tight seal on modern cars.

I didn't know that "bloody volvo drivers" was an advertisement hook. I genuinely thought everybody hated volvos inclduing volvo
>>
>>14812312
Well technically no wings help the car turn, since they give downforce at the rear, which tends to create understeer at the front. This is why people often use lips on the front of their cars for extra grip on the front tires.
>>
>>14812538
You are only partially right. Even a rear wing can still apply some downforce that gets transferred to the front.

A rear wing helps better than no wing, front wing helps better than rear wing, both wings help better than front wing.
>>
>>14812076
>that fucking toy dump truck scene

Because of the crocodile dundee fucker who used to do their commercials in the 90s.

>>
I'll bite, Wouldn't those 4 fueled cylinders use twice as much air as the 2 pumping cylinders could provide?
